MAC Cosmetics has teamed up with BoomBox for London Fashion Week and has sponsored 20 cabs painted in black (of course!) with both BoomBox’s and MAC’s logos in white. In addition, MAC Cosmetics is releasing a very, very limited edition (1200 copies) BoomBox book, which is bound to become an extremely coveted collector’s item — how I wish I could get my hands on a copy!Keep reading for the official press release…The phenomenal Sunday night rollercoaster BoomBox collaborates with M.A.C Cosmetics to launch the BoomBox book at London Fashion Week in the only way they know how.”BoomBox is just downright good fun, born from a time when wine bar culture and shit uptight clubs prevailed in London; jumping around and falling over in EC1 came as a breath of fresh air.”– Katie Grand Editor-In-Chief POP MAGAZINEPublished by founder Richard Mortimer who started BoomBox in June 2006, he has invited friends and BoomBox regulars to contribute, namely resident photographer Alistair Allan’s carnival of carnage – featuring: Agyness Deyn, Gareth Pugh, Jeremy Scott, Henry Holland, Katie Grand, Pat McGrath, Wolfgang Tillmans, Chris Cunningham, Kelly Osbourne, and many more – whose cult dirtydirtydancing.com site reminded you how you looked the night before, when you could never remember the morning after, as well as written work by: Paul Flynn, Charlie Porter, Hanna Hanra, Katie Grand, and Lauren Cochrane. A black and white photographic portfolio by Johnnie Shand Kydd offers vital portraiture, while Katherine Hamnett1s blurry vision soft-focuses on some questionable regions, and contribution from foxy queen of downtown erotica Ellen Cantor; Wolfgang Tillmans imagery is so real you’ll wonder why you’re not sweating like his subjects.“I spoke to Wolfgang and, as a regular at the club, felt that he would be perfect to document the club. I was excited by his approach to the project and his unique interpretation of the night. He came down to the club on several occasions to shoot, and we are both extremely happy with the resulting images.” — Richard Mortimer Founder BoomBoxFashion is part of the DNA of M.A.C, inspiring their artists and products worldwide. They were the obvious sponsor for the book, which bursts with colour, and raw creativity at source, dripping in full throttle visual artistry and smudged shadow, coloured paper helmets fashioned that night, MC Hammer-style sequin harem pants, and regulars living such a fabulous life that Monday morning doesn’t even figure on their schedule.”BoomBox has initiated an incredible cultural movement in the most irreverent manner that marries music, fashion and makeup. What better association could there possibly be for M.A.C!” — James Gager M.A.C Senior Vice President/Creative DirectorM.A.C Cosmetics plays an integral part in fashion around the world, sending over 50 M.A.C Pro Team makeup artists to work backstage with designers and creators at over 150 shows at the International Collections. Known for quality products and expertise, M.A.C Cosmetics is also the Official Makeup Brand of New York Fashion Week and supports fashion weeks in 22 locations around the world, creating the looks of the season behind the scenes. M.A.C is proud to take the lead in beauty as the Official Makeup Sponsor of London Fashion Week.”Let’s face it; in the era before the BoomBox Sunday Night apocalypse, The Sabbath was for two things. Three men, in a bath, rolling down a hill followed by the familiar DO-dooo, do dooo, do doo do doo, dodo do do do dooo of The Antiques Roadshow,” says Hanna Hanra in the BoomBox Book.In a limited edition of 1200 copies, the BoomBox book, will be on sale exclusively at http://www.maccosmetics.co.uk, Dover Street Market in London, Colette in Paris, Seven New York in NYC, Side By Side in Tokyo, and 10 Corso Como in Milan.TIME OUT (London) celebrates BoomBox next week, with an issue dedicated to BoomBox. Buy this historic document featuring interviews with BoomBox founder Richard Mortimer, excusive imagery from the BoomBox book, Gareth Pugh preparing for London Fashion Week, Lulu Kennedy of Fashion East interviews Central St Martins professor Louise Wilson, and a special reader offer to win the BoomBox book and a M.A.C gift. Press Release | M.A.C Cosmetics

Lips
Lips were defined with MAC Lip Pencil in Redd and then blended with Lip Mix in Orange for the perfect pop of coral.

More breakdowns from the runway shows…

Nicole Miller

Face
To create a neutral look, but with a little warmth in the cheeks: MAC Face and Body Foundation was first applied lightly to skin and set with MAC Loose Blot Powder. MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Powder in Medium Dark was then used to contour the cheeks, MAC Sheertone Blush in Pinch-o-Peach was dusted over cheekbones to highlight.

Eyes
Inner corner painted with MAC Paint Pot in Bare Study; Crease applied with MAC Paint Pot in Groundwork and set with MAC Powder Blush in Emote. Brows were then tinted lightly with MAC eye shadow in Coquette eye shadow. Then, MAC Plush Lash Mascara was swept on top and bottom lashes for a finished look.

Lips
For a sheer but stained lip, MAC Prolong Wear in Saffo was blended lightly with fingers

Badgley Mischka
Tom Pecheux’s vision of the Badgley Mischka girl in spring/summer is, “she likes her time on the beach, and isn’t too bothered when it comes to dressing for evening.” She would toss on a Badgley cocktail dress, maybe swipe her upper lashes with mascara, have a rosy cheek already from the sun – and then pop on a stunning electric fuchsia gloss on her lips – enough to light up a whole room. “We made it for the show,” Pecheux said. Let’s hope MAC will package it this spring so we can all get that strong mouth that looks so great with almost no other makeup.

Preen
James Kaliardos was channeling the safari seventies of Lauren Hutton for the groovy English label Preen. The clothes were going a bit safari too. He used MAC Paint Pots for the eyes – a cream that dries to a powder, in gold and taupe tones. Again, he only wanted mascara on the top lashes, which is seventies-style. For the lips, he tried MAC’s hot new spring colour 4N – a petal-sprigged pinky beige that’s sure to be the new Spice. And sure enough, we spied some glossy highlighter above the cheekbone. Let’s just say it was That Seventies Show.

Face
Mineralize Satinfinish Foundation was matched perfectly to skin tone, applied to center of face and brushed outward. Mineralized Skinfinish Powder was lightly dusted over face to set foundation and MAC Creme Blush in Pleasureful was applied to temples and cheeks.

Eyes
MAC Paint in Bare Canvas was applied to the lids as a base and Antiqued Gold Creme Color Base was applied to center of lid to accent eye. MAC Paint Pot in Architecture was applied to the crease to contour the eye. Brows were pronounced with MAC Brow Pencil in Fling and Plush Lash Mascara was heavily applied on top lashes and applied sparingly to the bottom lashes.

Lips
A neutral lip was created by applying Half ‘n Half Lipstick.

Bill Blass
Some things in the world change and other pleasantly stay the same. The Bill Blass woman will always be a sleek grownup who wears tailored clothes, a well-traveled glow, and travels first class. For spring, Francello Daly added a bit of berry stain to her pout and a little shine on the cheek – and this “undone” look included the requisite brow and lipliner grooming that other designers eschewed for spring.

Face
For a luminous and velvety glow, the face was prepped with Mineralized Foundation. MAC Loose Powder was dusted over foundation to minimize shine. Mineralized Skinfinish Natural was then added lightly to the bridge of the nose to highlight. To emphasize the glow, MAC Sheertone Blush in Springsheen was applied to the apples adding a soft pink, subtle gold highlight.

Eyes
First, MAC Paint in Bamboon was applied as a base. MAC Eye Shadow in Gleam was patted on the inner corner of the eye and MAC Eye shadow in Pink Venus was applied to outer corner of eye for a soft, iridescent sheen. Kohl Pencil in Teddy was worked into the lash line and #35 and #33 MAC Eyelashes were applied. To finish off the look and to create a perfect, feathery effect, MAC Plush Lash mascara was swept onto the top and bottom lashes.

Lips
Lips were lined in Spice, and then a dense application of Hug Me Lipstick created the gorgeous, natural pout moisture-rich lip.

Carlos Miele
Carlos Miele does red hot glamour – slithery gowns and dresses that ooze ooh-la-la when everybody else was doing big volume. So Romy Soleimani added a little brown red gloss to her berry lips, and the blush was a little warmer than the simple contour of other shows. Maybe there was a tiny less mascara than in seasons past in ode to the lighter makeup looks of this season – but not much.

Face
MAC Studio Moisture Fix Lotion was applied all over face, followed by Mineralize Foundation and Touch Stick concealer. MAC Creme Color Base in Fawntastic was mixed with MAC Gloss Texture and applied to cheeks to complete the lightweight satin finish on the skin.

Eyes
For the lids, MAC Creme Color Base in Fawntastic was mixed with MAC Gloss Texture. MAC Plush Lash Mascara in Black was swept onto the lashes to finish the look.

Lips
For a matte, stained lip, MAC Morange Lipstick was mixed with MAC lipglass in Revealing and sheered-out with fingers.

Our very lovely Louise Zizzo mentioned how she worked on the L.A.M.B. look and that it was very mod, very 60s, and that I would love it (and she’s so right!).

Y & Kei
Most seasons, clothing trends work with the makeup trends, each coordinating and flattering the other. Not so Spring ’08; Y& Kei did their modern hippie dresses, but makeup artist Polly Osmond worked against it. Her faces here were shiny on the cheek and brow bones, with taupe shiny gloss on eyes, and no mascara or discernible brow enhancement. The lips had a slightly bitten look courtesy of MAC’s Cafe Matte Lipstick. “We’ve seen so much brow, lash and lip for fall,” Osmond declared, “now it’s time for a return to iridescence. And beiges and browns are classics, not trendy.” Long live no-makeup makeup!

Jason Wu
The nudie movement definitely hit Jason Wu’s spring face – but only the top half. Romy Soleimani did no brows, an iridescent cheek, with just a little grey around the eyes and a little bit of mascara. But it was all about a Big Mouth – a very big mouth. The lips were absolutely matte in the shade of electric pumpkin. Call it The Great Pumpkin effect. If an orange creamsicle froze on your lips, it would look like this.

Nicole Miller
James Kiliardos was having a Twiggy moment for Nicole Miller’s spring show. “I’m feeling Twiggy 1972,” he said, applying mascara on the top and bottom of a model’s eyes – with no liner. While the clothes were chic and contemporary with rushes of goldenrod, the makeup stayed in the pinkberry family, with pale blush high on the cheekbone and a berry stain on the lip. “it’s all about putting a concentration of mascara at the root of the top and bottom of the eye,” he explained, “then you comb it out to the ends.” Welcome back, Twiggy.

L.A.M.B.
Polly Osmond and Gwen Stefani have this in common; a love of ladies from the fifties and sixties. “We both love that smoky vampy eye,” said Osmond, who did Stefani’s makeup for her runway walk, too. So for L.A.M.B. spring, Osmond did what she called a “3-D smoky grey eye” that put charcoal powder at the crease and above the lashes. The face was finished with a very sheer beige lip – and long white shiny fingernails.

Our friends at MAC Cosmetics did not want us to be left out and are sharing with us yesterday’s trend report! Take a look and read about some of the excitement of the kick off of Fashion Week.

Josh Goot
For Aussie-turned-New Yorker Josh Goot’s Azzedine-referenced spring collection, Phillipe Chansel made the makeup disappear. The models’ faces looked absolutely nude — “but that’s because the makeup is really well blended,” he explained. Using MAC’s Micronized Airbrush Foundation without the actual airbrush achieved the look – while MAC Lip Erase took down the lip colour. The cheeks had the most subtle hint of contour and highlight – but the real action was at the nape of the neck. There, Chansel dabbed silver, white, pink, or gold powder patches behind the girls’ high sleek ponytails. “To catch the spotlight as they walk,” was the reason – a new novel placement for makeup? Necks could be the new eyes.

Grey Ant
Makeup artist Tiffany Johnston had an epiphany at Grey Ant’s Spring ’08 show; plastic skin. “It has a little reflection,” she described. “So it’s not dewy – and it’s not matte, either.” Using a tiny amount of neutral lip gel and cheek highlight, she then obliterated her near-natural look with doll eyes straight out of a Keene painting; one set of models had blacked out eyes; the other electric blue. “I cut off the false lashes at the end and packaged mascara on, creating a feeling of paper mache,” she described. All in all, the spring look at Grey Ant was about texture – a mix of real and fake – and virtually no colour.

Band of Outsiders
Band of Outsiders appropriately nautical spring show aboard a ship at Chelsea Piers inspired makeup artist Romy Soleimani to break out the navy eyeliner. Ships ahoy! Indigo is always a sure sign of spring. The actual base makeup was carefully applied and this season’s first trend we’ve spotted; pale pale contouring of cheeks, for that ravenously hollow but still healthy look, worked well with naval chic.
