NARS Na Pali Coast Multiple
NARS Na Pali Coast Multiple

NARS Na Pali Coast Multiple ($39.00 for 0.50 oz.) is described as a “shimmering rose peach.” It’s a gold and bronze-shimmered reddish bronze with strong, warm undertones and a frosted sheen. Chanel Accent (84) (LE, $43.00) is more muted, powder, and less warm-toned. MAC Sweet As Cocoa (P, $21.00) is browner, less red-toned, powder. MAC Stylish Me (LE, $21.00) is very similar but a powder product. MAC Stratus (LE, $25.00) is redder, powder. See comparison swatches.

If you’ve been a reader for awhile, you’ll know that my biggest issue with Multiples is that they’re not usually a great multi-tasker. They’re nice on cheeks, sometimes on brow bones, but they tend to be a disappointment on the lips. In all honesty, I have considered rating them purely as a cheek product, but for now, I’m continuing to review them exactly as they’re marketed: a “multi-purpose stick for eyes, cheeks, lips, and body.” Multiples are supposed to give “sheer allover color, shimmering accents, contours and dynamic highlights.”

Na Pali Coast worked best for me as a cheek color, though with a really, really sheer and blended application, it could be used as a warming highlighter, too.  The color is sheer but buildable. I patted it onto cheeks using a stippling brush, and it looked luminous without emphasizing pores. As a blush, it wore well for six and a half hours on me before starting to look a little patchy. It worked well over foundation or on bare skin, but on bare skin it is easier to apply. As an eye product, it creases after six hours on me if applied on the actual lid, and then lasts almost seven hours on the brow bone. As a lip product, it’s extremely uncomfortable and unforgiving; it seems to crumble at times as it is applied, so it leaves lips looking flaky and dry (as the product clings). It is also quite drying as a lip color and wears about two hours. The consistency is just lightly creamy with a silicone-like feel, and it does dry down (it is a cream-to-powder product), so it doesn’t look too dewy/wet on the skin.

NARS Khao San Road Larger Than Life Eyeliner
NARS Khao San Road Larger Than Life Eyeliner

The NARS Larger Than Life Eyeliner ($24.00 for 0.02 oz.) range has two new shades releasing for spring. Khao San Road is permanent, while Puerta del Sol is limited edition.  They’re both really fun, bright pops of color that are perfect for adding oomph to any look, but I wish they were a little creamier and more pigmented.  They are buildable to varying degrees (Puerta del Sol more so than Khao San Road), and they were both long-wearing and didn’t smudge at any point (but gradually faded/thinned after eight hours).

Khao San Road is described as a “metallic aquamarine.” It’s a brightened, light-medium blue with silver sparkle. It had so-so color payoff in a single stroke and was buildable to mostly opaque color coverage. The formula is just lightly creamy, so it doesn’t smudge easily and dries and sets very quickly. It lasted for eight hours without fading or smudging on me. Sephora Collection Summer Cruise (23) (P, $9.00) is lighter. Chanel True Blue (57) (LE, $30.00) is similar. bareMinerals 4AM (LE, $15.00) is less sparkly. Tarina Tarantino Kanzashi is brighter. See comparison swatches.

Puerta del Sol is described as a “parrot green with shimmer.” It’s a grassy green with warm, yellow undertones and a frosted sheen. It is an eyeliner that really has to be layered and built-up in order to achieve more opaque color payoff. It wore well for eight hours before starting to thin. Ardency Inn Grass (P, $19.00) is warmer with no shimmer. Sephora Collection Indulge Yourself (22) (P, $9.00) is less shimmery. NARS Rue de Rivoli (P, $24.00) is much darker (included here more because it’s in the permanent range). See comparison swatches.

NARS China Seas Eyeshadow Duo
NARS China Seas Eyeshadow Duo

NARS China Seas Eyeshadow Duo ($34.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a new and permanent duo just in time for spring that features a teal and plum. While Kauai knocked my socks off, China Seas left me wanting more–pigmentation, softer, smoother textures. It’s a workable duo, and there’s no stiffness despite some of the drier consistencies, so they still blend out without a lot of work. The left side of the duo lasted almost eight hours on me, while the right side of the duo had faded noticeably by seven and a half hours.

China Seas #1 is described as an “iridescent turquoise with gold infusion.” It’s a bluish-teal with a golden sheen and frosted finish. The texture was fairly soft and smooth, but it didn’t have as much pigmentation as I expected–it was a little weak and resulted in more semi-opaque color payoff. It didn’t build up much more than what was there, but if you use it wet and really pack it on, you can get a more true-to-pan color to come forth. Makeup Geek Mermaid (P, $5.99) is very similar. Too Faced Jingle All the Way Eyeshadow #9 (LE) is greener. NARS Bavaria (P, $24.00) is surprisingly similar–perhaps a smidgen bluer. theBalm Open to Offers Olwen (LE, $16.00) is brighter, richer. MAC Rain Drop (LE, $32.50) is more metallic, darker. Inglot #413 (P, $6.00) is similar. See comparison swatches.

China Seas #2 is described as an “iridescent plum.” It’s a medium-dark, warm-toned plum with a sparkly finish that’s just slightly frosted. The texture was somewhat dry, though it didn’t feel stiff so it wasn’t difficult to apply or blend, but it is a drier texture, which resulted in a less color payoff. MAC A Medley of Mauves #3 (P, $21.00) is darker. Tom Ford Beauty Seductive Rose #4 (P) is also a bit darker. Anastasia Pink Sapphire (LE) is warmer. Makeup Geek Last Dance (P, $5.99) is darker. Makeup Geek Enchanted (P, $6.99) is slightly lighter. Sleek MakeUP A Vow in Venice (LE, $9.99) is similar. Urban Decay Last Call (P, $18.00) is more metallic. MAC Star Violet (P, $15.00) is browner. Lancome Colour du Jour (P, $19.00) is similar. Chanel Harmonie du Soir #3 (LE) is slightly lighter. See comparison swatches.

NARS Annees Larger Than Life Lipgloss
NARS Annees Larger Than Life Lipgloss

NARS Larger Than Life Lipgloss ($26.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) sees the introduction of two new and permanent shades to the range with the spring collection. For spring, both shades are described sheer (and are). Otherwise, the formula is a thick, tacky gloss that is longer-wearing.  I found both of these fairly sticky but very high-shine.  If you have thinner lips, you’ll love the very small, fine applicator brush for applying the gloss, and if you have fuller lips, it may be less of an upside. After wearing both shades, neither was hydrating nor drying.

Annees is described as a “sheer violet.” It’s a light-medium, pink-tinged lavender with a creamy finish. Applied, it has more of a milky consistency and look, so it doesn’t apply as evenly as one would like and does settle into lip lines. Due to the way it applies, it’s a color I’d apply over a more opaque lipstick or lip liner. It had semi-sheer color coverage. This shade lasted three and a half hours on me. It actually swatched more like Coeur Sucre but ends up looking more like International Velvet applied. Urban Decay Obsessed (P, $19.00) is warmer. MAC Petite Indulgence (LE, $20.00) is slightly darker. MAC Going Casual (LE, $20.00) is lighter. MAC Pagoda (LE, $20.00) is shimmery. Chanel Bagatelle (P, $29.50) is also shimmery. See comparison swatches.

Bimini is described as a “sheer pink guava.” It’s a medium peachy-orange with fine shimmer. It applied evenly, easily, and had sheer coverage. It lasted for four hours on me, which is average wear, but this is a long-wearing formula, so I would have expected even better wear. MAC Good Lovin’ (LE, $15.00) is browner. MAC Satin Slip (LE, $20.00) is darker. MAC Double Happiness (LE, $20.00) is less shimmery. MAC Pure Flattery (LE, $15.00) is similar. MAC Celestial Kiss (LE, $20.00) is less shimmery. See comparison swatches.

NARS Timanfaya Satin Lip Pencil
NARS Timanfaya Satin Lip Pencil

NARS Timanfaya Satin Lip Pencil ($25.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “mandarin red.” It’s a brightened, medium-dark orange with warm, red undertones and a satin finish–just a soft sheen that will gradually turn matte as it wears on. MAC Tart & Trendy (LE, $16.00) is more muted, lighter. Milani Sweet Nectar (P, $5.49) is very similar. Maybelline Electric Orange (P, $7.49) is also very similar–perhaps a tiny bit darker. MAC Fashion Nomad (LE, $16.00) is darker. MAC Sounds Like Noise (LE, $16.00) is lighter, less red-toned. MAC Neon Orange (LE, $16.00) is darker, more red-toned. See comparison swatches.

The pencil had a soft, creamy consistency when applied to the lips, where it actually felt almost slippery when I was applying it, but the lip color dried down slightly so it didn’t slip or slide on the lips. It was really pigmented and yielded full, opaque color coverage. The color wore well for almost six hours, and it was neither drying nor hydrating during that time. I only wish NARS would upgrade their packaging by putting the formula into a twist-up pencil, rather than one you have to sharpen, as sharpening always leads to some waste. You can minimize the waste by putting the pencil into the freezer prior to sharpening, though, but I would appreciate the convenience of a twist-up pencil.

NARS Kauai Eyeshadow Duo
NARS Kauai Eyeshadow Duo

NARS Kauai Eyeshadow Duo ($34.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a new and permanent duo from NARS’ spring collection. Both shades were very, very pigmented with an incredibly soft, almost creamy, texture. The consistency was dense, buttery, and over-the-top metallic. It’s a formula that could also be used wet to bring out the metallic finish even more (though entirely unnecessary, as it is opaque and metallic applied dry). When I wore these shades, both lasted for a full nine hours without creasing or fading.  This is one of the best eyeshadow duos I’ve seen NARS put out from the intensity of the pigmentation to the feel of the powder itself.

Kauai #1 is described as a “gold lame.” It’s a muted, slightly antique-y gold with a rich, metallic sheen and fine gold and antique gold shimmer and sparkle. It was intensely pigmented, and the texture was smooth, soft, and blendable. Too Faced Tinsel (LE) is very similar–a touch warmer. bareMinerals Gold Medal (P, $16.00) is also very similar. See comparison swatches.

Kauai #2 is described as an “iridescent smokey orchid.” It’s a medium-dark purple with subtle violet undertones and a frosted, metallic finish. The texture was dense, buttery, and so, so soft. I actually found that it can be easy to over-apply or load-up the brush with this product, because it is quite soft, so I recommend using less than you think you’ll need. L’Oreal Purple Priority (758) (P, $7.99) is darker, cooler-toned. Too Faced Jingle All the Way Eyeshadow #6 (LE) is less intense. Sleek MakeUP Romance in Rome (LE, $9.99) is less violet. Sleek MakeUP Bliss in Barcelona (LE, $9.99) is brighter. Urban Decay Voodoo (LE, $18.00) is cooler-toned, more muted. theBalm All the Way Annie (P, $16.00) is darker, less metallic. Urban Decay Freakshow (P, $18.00) is warmer. Urban Decay Vice (LE, $18.00) is lighter. Urban Decay Gravity (LE, $18.00) is similar but slightly lighter. Urban Decay ACDC (P, $18.00) is lighter. MAC Dusty Desire (LE, $32.50) is slightly cooler-toned. L’Oreal Perpetual Purple (P, $7.99) is darker. See comparison swatches.
