NARS Taos Blush ($29.00 for 0.16 oz.) is described as a “desert rose with shimmer.” It’s a warm-toned, burnt rose with a subtle golden shimmer/sheen. Illamasqua Allure is more muted, not quite as red. MAC Hidden Treasure is darker. Tom Ford Savage is lighter, less red/more brown. MAC Fleet Fast is lighter, less reddened.

Taos is incredibly pigmented–a little goes a long way–so a light hand and a feathery brush are must-haves if you want a subtle look. It has a soft, silky-smooth, and very finely-milled texture that sits well on the skin and blends out as desired. The delicate gold shimmer, once blended, looked like a satiny, golden sheen that didn’t emphasize pores.  It lasted nine hours well, and I didn’t notice any fading until ten hours, so Taos is one of the longest-wearing blushes I’ve tried from NARS.

NARS Taj Mahal Blush ($29.00 for 0.16 oz.) is described as a “blazing burnt orange with golden shimmer.” It’s a bold, vibrant orange with a hint of red and a golden shimmer-sheen. Wet ‘n’ Wild Golden Goddess is more subdued, browner. MAC Center of the Universe is also more muted and browner. MAC My Paradise is more coral/red. Jasmine Rajah (which is an eyeshadow) is very similar but has a subtler golden sheen.

Oh, this is a bold, vibrant shade of blush. There’s no shying away from that! It’s undeniably warm-toned and just brings forth every image of summer. With a very, very light hand, it works as a golden orange gleam, and the more color you use, the deeper and more reddened the color gets.  The pigmentation is insane; incredibly rich that deeper complexions will not need to build up the color to see it show up on their skin tones, while fairer complexions will have to use feathery touches and, perhaps, a stippling brush, to yield softer color.  Taj Mahal had a soft, finely-milled texture that applied smoothly and blended out easily.  This blush wore for nine hours without fading–which makes it one of the best NARS’ blushes I’ve tried.

NARS Super Orgasm Blush ($29.00 for 0.16 oz.) is described as a “peachy pink with gold glitter.” It’s a golden-shimmered, warm pink with gold glitter. It is Orgasm with glitter particles. I think that this appears slightly lighter with a stronger sheen, though. As a result, all the dupes for Orgasm apply to Super Orgasm–minus the glitter. bareMinerals The Natural High is slightly warmer in its base color (less pink). Guerlain Blush G Serie Noire is slightly deeper and pinker. Benefit Sugarbomb is much, much lighter (and sheerer). Rock & Republic Call Me is slightly less pink. Milani Dolce Pink is more frosted/sparkly. Tarte Glisten is similar–slightly darker.  MAC Springsheen is also similar.  This older post is a good comparison reference for coral blushes.

I’m not a fan of NARS’ glittery blushes (or their eyeshadows). In general, while glitter is absolutely fun, it needs to be something that stays in its place, rather than heading for parts unknown. Unfortunately, the glitter in Super Orgasm does just that: gets everywhere else after you’ve applied it to your cheeks. The glitter doesn’t stick or adhere to the powder, so it is like applying loose glitter to your cheeks. A lot of the glitter does seem to get trapped in the brush or disperse in the air, but I did get some on the cheeks. The texture of the blush is slightly gritty, given the glitter content, but the underlying color is soft and smooth. It seemed to have a higher frost content, though, and it did emphasize pores just slightly. Super Orgasm wore for seven hours well but was slightly faded after eight.

NARS Sin Blush ($29.00 for 0.16 oz.) is described as a “berry with gold shimmer.” It’s a gold-shimmered plum with a frosted finish. It’s less red, more plum compared to NARS Oasis. MAC Plum Foolery is lighter but similar. MAC Vintage Grape is purpler. theBalm Cabana Boy is similar–perhaps a smidgen lighter.

Sin is like a plummy version of NARS Orgasm, because both of a golden shimmer/sheen that alters the underlying base color. It’s slightly cool-toned, but the golden shimmer adds warmth and makes it appear almost neutral in tone on the skin. It had great pigmentation, so it should show up well on most skin tones. The texture was soft and finely-milled. The finish is softly frosted on the skin after it is applied and blended out. There was a very, very slight emphasis of pores but it was hardly noticeable and the resulting glowy sheen was luminous without being oily. Sin wore just over eight hours well but started to fade after nine hours on my skin.

NARS Silvana Blush ($29.00 for 0.16 oz.) is described as a “natural peach terracotta.” It’s a medium peachy brown with warm undertones and a pearly finish. NARS Madly is a touch browner, less warm-toned. MAC Lush-Light Bronze is browner and more matte. MAC The Soft Meow is browner, less warm-toned. MAC Other Worldly is more shimmery and orange.

It has good color payoff, though I’d say it’s less intense compared to some other famous (infamous?) NARS blushes by just a notch–so you won’t have to fear over-applying the color or having to use a light hand with a stippling brush. The texture is soft, finely-milled but not powdery, so it applies smoothly and evenly on the skin without looking powdery or heavy. Silvana wore well for eight hours, and after nine, there was some noticeable fading. It blends out readily, and for light-medium and darker complexions, a very easy-to-wear, hard-to-overdo kind of color. On my medium complexion, it adds warmth and a touch of color but nothing too much or obvious.

I like brown-based blushes for any look that I’m not sure about a blush color for, because they add some definition and dimension without adding too much color. It has a light shimmer, so the finish is somewhat luminous but not shimmery or frosty; it didn’t emphasize pores or any underlying imperfections of the skin.

NARS Sex Appeal Blush ($29.00 for 0.16 oz.) is described as a “soft peach.” It’s a pale, subtly warm-toned peach with a satin finish. Buxom Swept Away is pinker. MAC Stay By Me is a touch darker. MAC Peaches is darker and more orange.

It is absolutely a color and product that will work better on very, very pale skin tones. On my medium complexion, it just barely shows up, and it may turn chalky/ashy on deeper skin tones because of the light base color. For lighter skin tones, though, especially those with natural redness occurring in their cheeks, this will work quite nicely. The importance here is that the pigmentation is still good, as it appears true-to-pan; it’s just that the color won’t show itself to its full potential on my complexion. (Pale readers who’ve tried this, speak out!)

From what I could tell, the color lasted around six to seven hours on me, but it was even harder to see after eight hours (it’s so much harder to see wear when it’s barely visible to begin with!).  The texture is very soft, finely-milled, and a smidgen on the powdery side but it lies nicely on the skin–it doesn’t look powdery on the skin, and if you buff it into the skin, it turns just slightly luminous from that satin finish.
