NARS Angelika Blush

NARS Angelika Blush ($28.00 for 0.16 oz.) is described as a “cotton candy pink with gold and silver sparkle.” It’s a blue-based light-medium pink with larger silver sparkle and a very subtle gold sheen. MAC Peony Petal is bluer in undertone and lighter. MAC Florida is more magenta. Tarte Amused is slightly darker and more vibrant. MAC Amazon Princess is more magenta–purpler, less pink.

Even though I have warm undertones, I think this is still flattering, because it has a darker hue overall. Sometimes if it’s a paler, lighter blue-based pink, it can make me look a little dead. The texture of Angelika is soft, silky-smooth, and it’s very easy to blend and apply to the cheek. There’s no stiffness here, but it doesn’t kick up a lot of excess powder, so it is just right balance of softness. It packs plenty of color, so it will show up on darker skin tones, too, even though it’s not a deep pink blush. The silver sparkles get lost between the pan and the face; either they disappear into the ether or get trapped in the bristles of the brush, but very few wind up on the cheek.  Angelika wore close to eight hours on my cheeks with some minor fading shortly after.

For nostalgia purposes, I actually reviewed this blush two years ago here. The way this blog has evolved over the past six years is incredible, but sometimes I’m just amazed at how much can change in a couple of years, too. It always seem “The Best Way” when I do it, but clearly there’s always room for improvement!

NARS Angelika Blush ($26.00 for 0.16 oz.) is a beautiful blue-toned baby doll pink with silver specks of glitter.  It’s intensely pigmented, and it’s not overly cool, so it’ll be flattering on both warm and cool skin tones.  It has the same smooth, silky texture of the majority of NARS blushes, but it does have a bit of a glittery overlay, which makes it not quite my favorite texture overall.  The flecks don’t seem to be noticeable on the skin, because it seems like the glitter disappears between the brush to the cheek!  There are a few particles, though, but it’s not heavy at all.  The color blends out easily even if you overdo it, though this is a shade that you can’t go too overboard with.

RECOMMENDATION: If you’ve been on the hunt for a pigmented, cool-toned baby pink with a bit of glitz and glam, Angelika might be the one for you.  It’s most flattering on cooler skin tones, but warmer skin tones can wear it well when complemented with certain shades.

5 Minute Makeup:  Dior Misty Mauve

Just a quick look using the lighter shades of the Dior Misty Mauve palette.   No tutorial for this one, sorry!

You will need the following…

• Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (neutral eyeshadow base), Dior Misty Mauve Eyeshadow Palette (icy white, icy pink, plummy mauve), MAC Brule Eyeshadow (highlighter), Chanel Cassis Eyeliner (burgundy), Fresh Supernova Mascara (black)
• Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder (translucent)
• Cheeks: NARS Angelika Blush (baby pink)
• Lips: Le Metier de Beaute La Belle Lipgloss
• Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 116 (dense blush brush)

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply icy white eyeshadow on the inner third of the lid and pull upwards along the inner crease. Lightly blend icy pink eyeshadow on the outer two-thirds of the lid with the 239. Next, apply the plummymauve eyeshadow into the crease with the 226, lightly blending onto the outer lid. Blend Brule eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Cassic eyeliner on the lower lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Supernova mascara.

For cheeks, apply Angelika blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply La Belle lipgloss for a complementing lip.
