Green Eyeliners: Your Guide

I’ve split greens into three sections: medium and aqua greens, then dark greens and olive greens.

MAC Emerald Sea is a brightened, light-medium green with yellow undertones. (LE)
MAC Landscape Green is a medium, grassy green with yellow undertones and a matte finish. (FYI, not safe for water line usage.)
Urban Decay Graffiti is a grassy green with subtle yellow undertones and a subtle sheen.
CoverGirl Green Glow is a chartreuse green with a warm, gold sheen.
Make Up For Ever #17L is a pale chartreuse green with a golden sheen.
MAC Colour Matters is a true chartreuse with strong yellow undertones and a matte finish. (LE)
NARS Parrot Cay is a pale, aqua green with a matte finish. It is very much like Korres #12.
Korres #12 is a pale aqua green with a matte finish. It’s a dupe for NARS Parrot Cay! (DC)
Chanel Jade is a dark aqua blue/green with a frosted sheen.

Behind-the-Series: It was my intention to provide heavy, opaque swatches to provide an accurate color comparison. Some eyeliners required one pass, some required five, and a few even more. When possible, the shade name (above) is linked to the original review so you can read more about the quality, wear, etc. of a particular eyeliner. If we’ve never done a review, there will be no link. Shades that were limited edition will be marked with “(LE)” and shades that were discontinued will be marked with “(DC)” after the color description. Summer Makeup with Chanel

You can’t review new products without actually testing them, right? Here’s a look I put together to test out some of the products from Chanel’s summer collection! Reviews/swatches to come

You will need the following…

Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base, Chanel Lilium Eyeshadow Quad (beige, chartreuse, blackened green, mauve-taupe), Make Up For Ever #17L Aqua Eyes (chartreuse), Hourglass Film Noir Mascara (black)
Face: Ellis Faas SkinVeil (S104), Guerlain Les Violettes Mineral Powder (03)
Cheeks: Chanel Bronze Corail Soleil Tan de Chanel (bronze with coral)
Lips: Chanel Sari Dore Rouge Coco Lipstick (coral orange), Chanel Pensee Glossimer (sheer coral)
Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 222 (fluffy crease brush), 184 (fan brush)

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye with the 249. Apply the chartreuse eyeshadow to the lower half of the lid from inner to outer with the 239, just patting it on. Next, apply the mauve-taupe eyeshadow above the crease with the 222, blending outwards. With the 239, apply the blackened green eyeshadow into the crease with the 239, blending slightly downwards to cover the remaining portion of the lid and softening with the chartreuse eyeshadow. Highlight the brow bone with the beige eyeshadow with the 217. Apply 17L liner on the lower water line, and then smudge the blackened green eyeshadow against the lower lash line with the edge of the 239. Finish by sweeping lashes with Film Noir mascara.

For cheeks, apply Bronze Corail bronzer on the apples of the cheeks and sweep towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Sari Dore lipstick first, then top with Pensee glossimer for a complementing lip.

Fun Makeup: Pop of Chartreuse

I wanted to do a chartreuse look… but I also wanted to do more of an olive green… so this is what I ended up with!

You will need the following…

Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (neutral eyeshadow base), MAC Lucky Green Eyeshadow (yellowy green), MAC Bio Green Eyeshadow (grass green), MAC Humid Eyeshadow (dark green), MAC Sour Lemon Eyeshadow (chartreuse), MAC Gorgeous Gold Eyeshadow (gold with green), MAC Orb Eyeshadow (highlighter), Make Up For Ever #17L Aqua Eyes (chartreuse), MAC Black Black Chromagraphic Pencil (black), MAC Plushlash Mascara (black)
Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder (translucent)
Cheeks: Le Metier de Beaute Traviata Blushing Bronzed Duet (Echo, coral-pink / Sun Kissed, bronze)

Substitutes:

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply Lucky Green eyeshadow on the inner two-thirds of the lid. Lightly blend Bio Green eyeshadiw on the outer third of the id and into the lower crease with the 239. Next, apply Humid eyeshadow in the outer crease with the 226, lightly blending with the outer lid. With the 217, light blend Sour Lemon eyeshadow on the inner tearduct and along the crease. Blend Gorgeous Gold eyeshadow lightly above the crease with the 239. Highlight the brow bone with Orb eyeshadow with the 239. Bring everything together by applying #17L aqua eyes on the lower lash line, and then pat Sour Lemon eyeshadow along the inner two-thirds with the 219; then Humid eyeshadow on the outer third of the lower lash line to darken. Line the lower waterline with Black Black pencil. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.

For cheeks, apply Echo blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116, then lightly pat Sun Kissed bronzer on the top of cheekbones.

For lips, apply See Sheer lipstick first, and then layer Satin Peach ultra gloss for a complementing lip.

Aqua Eyes Eye Liner

Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Eyes line is probably one of the top eyeliner formulas on the market to-date. It’s extremely budge-proof, smudge-proof, and water-resistant. It actually holds up quite well to all three claims. Add to that a diverse range of color choices (Sephora sells 25), and you have a winning combination. They’re smooth, well-pigmented, and deliver long-lasting color.

#5L is a khaki-bronze with a hint of green in it. It’s like a deep, slightly green-toned antique gold. I love wearing this with golds, browns, and greens.
#17L is a soft, yellowed spring green with soft shimmer sheen. I was hoping for a little more chartreuse in it, but it’s still a nice, subtle liner color.
#20L is a forest-green with teal in it. I adore this one — a definite must-have. I pair it with blues, teals, and greens.
#12L is a dark blue with a subtle shimmer-sheen. It’s not super unique, but it’s a nice blue shade.
#7L is a nice pop of blue-based turquoise. It’s the brightest color that I own.
#15L is an violet-blue shade. I liked this one, because I felt like it was fairly unique. I don’t have anything like this in my collection of eye liners.
#10L is a bronzy-copper. It’s very “me” in a sense, because I love these kinds of warm-toned bronzes. It’s great with warm-toned looks, particularly neutral looks, for an extra kick.
