NARS Look: Mangrove & Daphne

I liked this in close-ups, but I don’t like it so much with my skin tone overall.  I think someone paler than me could really rock this, though! :)

You will need the following…

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply Mangrove eyeshadow on the inner third of the lid and pull upwards along the inner crease. Lightly blend Rajasthan (taupe) eyeshadow on the middle of the lid blended to the outer lid with the 239. Next, apply Daphne  eyeshadow into the crease with the 226, lightly blending onto the outer lid. Blend Trench eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying #11L eyeliner on the lower lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Precious Cells mascara.

For cheeks, apply Douceur blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Liquid Lurex lipstick first, and then layer Hi-falutin’ dazzleglass for a complementing lip.

Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes
#1L, #6L, #8L, #11L, #23L

Aqua Eyes, I Love Thee!

Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes ($17.00 for 0.04 oz.) is one of my favorite eyeliners–pigmented, long-wearing, waterproof, and just all around fantastic liners. I love the color range, and I have kind of gotten into a rather “collect ‘em all” mentality. You can read my very first review of Aqua Eyes (includes #5L, 7L, 10L, 12L, 15L, 17L, and 20L) as well as my single reviews of #3L, #4L, #9L, and #16L, too.

  • #1L is a deep dark black (despite appearing brown in the swatch–what is it with black eyeliner turning brown when photographed?) with a soft sheen.
  • #6L is a dark plummy purple with slight red undertones and soft sheen.
  • #8L is a bright, metallic silver–on the lighter, brighter side.
  • #11L is a medium-dark violet purple with soft violet sheen. New favorite purple liner!
  • #23L is a shimmering golden champagne with a nearly metallic finish.

(What am I missing? Hmm… #0L, 2L, 14L, 18L, 19L, 21L, 22L, 24L… 13L is on its way… wow, that’s more missing than I thought. BOO!)

If you want to know more about how products are evaluated, read out Rating System FAQ! :)

  • Product: 29/30
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 5/5

RECOMMENDATION: Aqua Eyes wears so well throughout the day without fading, smudging, or migrating. They’re one of my go-tos for eyeliners, and I love how pigmented and diverse the shade range is.

Smoky Eyes:  Groove with Alice + Olivia

Oh, man, that name is cheesy.  I gotta tell you:  coming up with “names” for looks can be a challenge.  If only “Blue and Violet” were creative, because I can do that no problem. :)

Happy Friday!!

You will need the following…

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249.  Then, apply Later pigment with the 242 and a couple of drops of water-based mixing medium on the lid.  Using the 239, apply Blue My Mind (sky blue) eyeshadow on the inner third of the lid and pull upwards along the inner crease. Lightly blend Blue My Mind (blue-teal) eyeshadow on the middle of the lid with the 239. On the outer lid, apply Togetherness (violet) eyeshadow with the 226 and blend into the crease. Lightly blend Togetherness (lilac) eyeshadow on the inner tearduct and above the crease with the 239. Blend Brule eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying #11L eyeliner on the lower lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.

For cheeks, apply a swirl of Hang Loose blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply All Styled Up lipstick first, and then layer Going Cashual cremesheen glass for a complementing lip.

Just Playing:  MAC In the Groove & Togetherness

I wanted to do something quick using the new In the Groove products for something for lip swatches (which I didn’t end up using, LOL), and this is what I ended up with.

You will need the following…

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply Togetherness (lilac) eyeshadow on the inner third of the lid and pull upwards along the inner crease. Lightly blend Fresh & Easy (pink) eyeshadow on the middle of the lid with the 239.   On the outer lid, apply Togetherness (gray) eyeshadow with the 239 and blend into the crease.  Next, apply Togetherness (violet) eyeshadow into the crease with the 226.   Lightly blend Togetherness (lilac) eyeshadow on the inner tearduct and above the crease with the 239.  Blend Brule eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying #11L eyeliner on the lower lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Haute & Naughty Lash mascara.

For cheeks, apply a swirl of Band of Roses blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116, then lightly pat By Candlelight mineralize skinfinish on the cheekbones.

For lips, apply I Like It Like That lipstick first, and then layer On the Scene cremesheen glass for a complementing lip.
