MAC Apres Chic: Stereo Rose Returns!

MAC Stereo Rose Mineralize Skinfinish ($29.00 for 0.32 oz.) is described as a “coral with golden bronze shimmering nuances.” It’s a coral with subtle pink tones and a champagne-gold shimmer. I think the blush gallery for corals is bursting at the seems, as over the years, brands have caught on that a large lot of us are coral fiends. MAC Born to Love is pinker, less shimmery. Buxom Luvitate is softer, more of a sheen than a shimmer. Tom Ford Lovelust is pinker, less metallic. Chanel Tweed Brun is more orange.

I reviewed Stereo Rose back when it was re-released in 2010, and it was hard to get then, because it was such a huge re-release. In 2010, it sold out in minute of going online–I had to go to my local store (at the time) to purchase it in-person! This time around, while still coveted, there is plenty of stock available. I don’t own the original version, only the 2010 and this version.

Mineralize Skinfinishes can vary quite a bit, which is the nature of the product; the right (or wrong) mix of veining can make or break a shade. There are some who only purchase in-store so they can pick the exact veining mix they desire! The one I purchased this time around has a bit more pink in it, but it still blends out to about the same color when swirled and applied altogether. It has a high-frost, almost metallic finish to it–for something less reflective, I suggest using a stippling brush like MAC’s 187 and applying with a light hand–so reflective that it manages not to emphasize pores.

On me, it lasted for six hours before starting to fade and get a bit patchy, which is about what I tend to get with MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinishes. The texture is soft, not powdery, and finely-milled. Stereo Rose is also nicely pigmented, so there’s no danger of it not showing up on darker complexions, but it can easily be used and blended on even pale skin tones. I can see why this was a huge hit when it initially launched; I think we have a few options available nowadays, so it’s not the holy grail of corals for all any more.

	The downside to this product is the wear time, which falls short of average on me, though about on par with other Mineralize Blushes/Skinfinishes. It has great pigmentation, though!

MAC Stereo Rose Mineralize Skinfinish

Ahh, finally! Operation Stereo Rose was a success. Not only did I get to meet several amazing Temptalia readers at my local MAC, but I was able to pick up the Stereo Rose I put on hold!

Stereo Rose is a lightly pinked coral with a golden-bronze sheen. I actually found it difficult to dupe, particularly because the texture is very smooth with a soft sheen rather than obvious shimmer. Ironically, the best dupe I was able to find was mixing Comfort and Petticoat together. NARS Luster also came close, but it lacks the pinkness of Stereo Rose. MAC New Vibe also comes close, but it’s significantly more pigmented/darker a well as redder than Stereo Rose–so perhaps if used lightly, you could come close.

It’s pretty, and it’s easily worn everyday by itself for a nice pop of color and sheen on the cheeks.  It doesn’t emphasize pores, and it doesn’t look orange, either.   It’s not the most amazing blush I ever used, but it is a nice one to have if you’re able to get one.  I don’t think I would drive ten hours to grab one, though

MAC In the Groove Collection: Mineralize Skinfinishes

In the Groove is most likely so anticipated because of the repromotion of Stereo Rose mineralize skinfinish.  Which will sell out… in hours.  If you’re grabbing it online, it most likely will pop online on the 6th, but there is always a chance it will make an appearance on Monday afternoon.  I’ll be sure to tweet about its availability as soon as I see it online.  I don’t have Stereo Rose yet–have to buy that when it launches–and I don’t have the original for comparisons, so my deepest apologies for that.

Edited @ 4:24PM (pst): I hope to update this post tomorrow–the 8th–with photos/swatches of Stereo Rose, assuming my store did in fact hold the Stereo Rose like they said.  Nevertheless, I updated the post with photos of me wearing the other three mineralize skinfinishes.

• By Candlelight is is a soft, sheer gilded pink-beige. It’s really great as a highlighter on cheeks or even subtly all-over the face.
• Petticoat is a darkened raspberry pink-bronze. This is one of the mineralize skinfinishes that can change color depending on how much glitter veining you have (and also, the less glitter veining, the less glitter). I don’t find Petticoat obnoxiously glittery, though. It’s pigmented enough to be worn as a blush for light and medium-dark skintones–the deepest skin tones may find it very subtle.
• Comfort is a slightly bronzed brown with golden sheen. This is nice on warmer skin tones as a subtle flush on cheeks or as a bronzer. It’s one of the less shimmery mineralize skinfinishes, and it’s also one of the more pigmented ones, too.
