Four Easy Makeup Looks Using MAC Stars ‘n Rockets Eyeshadow

Match it with hot pinks for a bold and bright look that’s a little bit over the top, but totally fun!

With greens and blues for a truly fun combination that’s perfect for spring! (One of my all-time favorite looks!)

For springy pastels, Stars ‘n Rockets has the best mix of iridescence and color to brighten up any look.

On the lash line to complete any purple-themed eyeshadow combination. Plus, it has a good level of shimmer and brightness that it just might open up your peepers, too. Double-duty, hello!

What do you like to wear Stars ‘n Rockets with?

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted a look, yeah? The reason behind that is I’ve really been trying to get my skin back into shape ever since it went wacko after using Smashbox Photofinish Primer. From around July or August of ’08, I had amazing, clear skin for the first time in my life. Around December, I used the primer, and then my skin went in reverse–tiny flesh-colored pimples on my cheeks accompanied by larger, painful (and more noticeable, unfortunately) ones, as well.

I saw a dermatologist at the end of January, who pretty much told me to stop doing the blog or my skin would never get better. (Among other reasons, I will not go back to see her.) She did give me two prescription products to use, but they rang up to be $400, so I said, “Let me exhaust some other alternatives!” LOL.

I’ve been using Mario Badescu products for the past three weeks now, and I can tell you that my face is on track to normal (review of amazing MB products forthcoming). I have some post-acne marks that are fading, and then just two or three (on my *entire* face) that I have to deal with. Part of the skin regimen was to avoid makeup at all costs, just because I wanted to give my skin time to breathe, heal, and recover. It will also help me assess whether anything I’m using regularly is a culprit. I expect to start doing more full looks soon, but clearer/manageable skin is priority numero uno for now. I know you all understand :)

For the Hello Kitty event on the 3rd, I did sport full makeup for the first time in at least two weeks, so this look is what I wore to the event! BTW, does anyone else feel really awkward and rusty after not doing any eyeshadow in *weeks*? Because I felt like a two year old with a paint brush in my hands, LOL!

You will need the following…

Here’s that look I mentioned yesterday! :) I used Too Faced Shadow Insurance, and you know what? I much prefer pigments for my colored bases. I think I would have had better staying power, no fading, and it would have had more *pop* — I will definitely be opting for pigments in the future, methinks!

The weirdest part about this look was how clumsy I felt doing it. I think it turned out fine, but it had been SO long since I had done any makeup–let alone anything this bright or bold–and my hands felt awkward, clumsy. I felt like I didn’t know what I was doing! It all felt so new, LOL.

Oh!  And you can see my new hair in this look.  I got it cut from the same picture as before, but I went “all the way” in terms of length.  To be honest, I preferred the longer, modified version last time.  But it’s okay, because I was able to go this short and be OK with it.  I didn’t cry or feel like I lost a part of me.  It’ll grow out soon enough!

Today I’m off to meet up with a bride I’m doing makeup for in June 2009. Wish me luck :)  What are you all doing this hump day?

You will need the following…

  • Cheeks: Dior Rose Diamond blush (soft pink)
  • Lips: Sweetie lipstick (medium pink), Calvin Klein Knockout Lip Gloss (pink-purple)
  • Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
  • Substitutes: Climate Blue = Contrast

The air tour was a really great once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing, because you really do get to see some amazing sights that aren’t easily seen by car. Unfortunately, I spent most of the tour motion sick, LOL. I kept my eyes open and still watched, but I don’t think I’d do it again, just because I felt so awful :( I’m hoping when we do the Zipline that I don’t experience any of that. Ahh, I get motion sick playing video games and just standing in the ocean, I should have known better and have taken some Dramamine ;P Today, we head up to the north shore, and my sister and I are going on an “Ocean Bluff” horseback ride. I’ve never been horseback riding, so I hope it goes well! I don’t even know if I’ve even been up close to a horse. I’ve ridden an elephant (I don’t remember it) and a camel (I remember that!) before… should be fun :)

You will need the following…

  • Eyes: Your Ladyship pigment (light neutral with pink undertones base), Thunder eyeshadow (pale gray-purple), Stars N Rockets eyeshadow (fuchsia-purple), Parfait Amour eyeshadow (cool purple), Ricepaper eyeshadow (soft neutral highlighter), UD 24/7 Rockstar Eye Liner (purple), Plushlash mascara (black)
  • Cheeks: Don’t Be Shy blush (cool pink)
  • Lips: Fun Fun lipstick (cool, pale pink), Cult Fave lipglass (pink)
  • Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Your Ladyship pigment all over the lid as the base with the 249. Apply Thunder eyeshadow to inner third of the lid using the 239 brush. Follow by applying Stars N Rockets eyeshadow to the middle of the lid. Darken outer lid with Parfait Amour eyeshadow, then drag color into outer crease to deepen, using the 239. Soften harsh lines with Thunder eyeshadow swept above crease. Highlight brow with Ricepaper eyeshadow. Line lower lash line with UD 24/7 Rockstar Pencil. Sweep apples of cheeks with Don’t Be Shy blush using the 129. Mellan update: yesterday, he spent the day at the vet so they could monitor him and take chest x-rays. When we picked him up yesterday afternoon, the vet showed us the x-rays, and he said that he didn’t see anything that stood out to him as abnormal. Today, our vet spoke with some specialists, aand the radiologist also agreed that his heart looked normal. So while there is definitely a heart murmur present, they do not feel it is life threatening at this time. I imagine that unless we start seeing symptoms, we should assume he’s pretty normal (well, for him!). Thank you all SO much for your kind words and thoughts. They meant so much to us :)  I took the above photo tonight, after I did tonight’s look — he always keeps me company by staring into the bathroom (he’s not allowed in it except for baths) longingly!

I got the urge to try and recreate my “Barbie Loves MAC” look, and I did… using not the same products as before, LOL.

I used Golder’s Green pigment (LE) on lid, Pink Pearl pigment above crease, Metamorph eyeshadow (LE) on lid, Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow above crease, Parfait Amour eyeshadow in crease, Living Pink eyeshadow (LE) above crease, Hush eyeshadow on brow, Metamorph eyeshadow (LE) on lower lash line, Blacktrack fluidline on upper lash line, Feline kohl power (LE) on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. I had Don’t Be Shy blush (LE) on cheeks with Lightly Lilac beauty powder to highlight. I wore Fashionably Fuchsia lipstick (LE) with Crystal Rose lipglass (LE) on my lips.

** These are recommendations for dupes based on permanent colors available — may not necessarily be identical; they are the closest I can think of!

Golder’s Green = Kelly Green + Chartreuse; Metamorph = Juxt; Warm Chill = Surreal + Juxt; Living Pink = Swish; Feline = Graphblack; Don’t Be Shy = Well Dressed; Fashionably Fuchsia = Girl About Town; Crystal Rose = Pink Pearl pigment + clear gloss
