MAC Shell Pearl Beauty Powder ($24.00 for 0.35 oz.) is described as a “pale peach with gold pearl.” It’s a soft pink-tinged peach with a golden shimmer-sheen. MAC Legendary is darker, pinker. MAC Born to Love is quite a bit darker, less peach. Guerlain Peach Boy is a touch darker and more shimmery. Benefit Sugarbomb is pinker, but I would say this is the closest when applied.

The first time I remember seeing it was with Liberty of London. MAC describes this Beauty Powder “as a highlight, soft blush, or overall finish.” It also has a snake skin pattern embossed across the top. Some of it should remain intact after a few uses, but within a dozen or so uses, I think the majority will be softened or flattened, but there’s no overlay masking the real color of the product.  The cardboard box also has the collection’s promotional design printed on a cardboard sleeve, but the compact itself is standard MAC packaging.

Shell Pearl has true-to-pan color payoff, which is, overall, on the lighter side, and it has a pale base, so I expect it will be most appropriate for light to light-medium complexions, with it possibly turning ashy on some darker skin tones.  I’m around NC25/NC30, and it worked as a subtle blusher and highlighter.  The texture was soft, finely-milled, and applied smoothly–but there was some excess powder that kicked up when I was applying it (I used MAC’s 116 brush).  It wore well for seven hours, and after eight full hours, there was noticeable fading.

	I would recommend this for lighter skin tones, as it may turn ashy on deeper skin tones. There is some powderiness in the texture, and I think this contributed to the slight fading I encountered after eight hours.

Makeup You Wanna Eat: Pinks & Purple

This look reminded me of cupcakes or maybe ice cream. Either way, I was like, “Mmm, I want some food!” (Preferrably something sweet, much to the dismay of my thighs…) For those who follow me on Twitter, *this* was the look I just wasn’t lovin’. Encouragement from my girl Pursebuzz made me OK enough to post this anyway   Though I totally meant to post this early this morning, but between studying for my final tonight and writing a final paper… it all kind of got lost in the mix!

By the by, I also tried out wearing MAC Blooming Lovely Lipstick + English Accents Lipglass, and I can see it working much better on someone with cooler undertones or even a paler complexion. For eyes, start by applying Soft Ochre paint pot as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. With the 239 and water-based mixing medium (or water), apply Fuchsia pigment all over the lid area. Using the 239, apply Give Me Liberty of London eyeshadow on the inner third of the eyelid. Next, apply Free to Be eyeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with Dame’s Desire eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. Lightly blend Dame’s Desire eyeshadow, with the 239, on the outer corner and lid. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Femme-fi eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Lust eyeliner on the lower lash line and Gorgeous Gold eyeshadow lightly patted below the lower lash line with the 219 brush. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.

For cheeks, apply Prim & Proper blush to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.  With the 165, gently tap Shell Pearl beauty powder on the cheek bones to highlight.

For lips, apply Petals & Peacocks lipstick first, and then layer English Accents lipglass for a complementing lip.

Bright Makeup: Hot Pink Smoky Eyes

For eyes, start by applying Soft Ochre paint pot as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. With the 239 and water-based mixing medium (or water), apply Fuchsia pigment all over the lid area. Using the 239, apply Dollipop eyeshadow on the entire lower eyelid area. Darken the outer third of the lid with Bulletproof eyeshadow with the 226, gently brushing it into the outer crease. Lightly blend Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow, with the 226, in the crease. Lightly tap and brush Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow directly above the crease to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Beautiful Iris eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone and inner tearduct. Bring everything together by applying Lust eyeliner on the lower lash line and Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow lightly patted below the lower lash line with the 219 brush. Finish by applying Blacktrack fluidline to the upper lash line with the 208, and then sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.

For cheeks, apply Sculpt sculpting powder to the hollows of the cheeks to lightly contour and blend onto cheeks with the 168. To highlight, apply Shell pearl onto the cheekbones with the 165.

For lips, apply Petals & Peacocks lipstick first, and then layer True Babe lipglass for a complementing lip.

Liberty of London Look: Greens & Blues

The boyfriend and I headed down to Monterey to visit the Aquarium, so I thought I’d try out some of the new products with some green in there to for that the “oceanic” feel!

Bring everything together by applying Graffiti eyeliner on the lower lash line and Lucky Green eyeshadow lightly patted below the lower lash line with the 219 brush. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.

For cheeks, apply Prim & Proper blush to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116. Highlight cheekbones with Shell Pearl beauty powder with the 165.

For lips, apply Ever Hip lipstick first, and then layer Frankly Fresh lipglass for a complementing lip.

MAC Give Me Liberty of London: Beauty Powder Reviews, Photos, Swatches

The Beauty Powders are housed in all-white packaging with an opaque cover (they’re sometimes clear, sometimes not–usually not clear if it’s part of limited edition packaging) with the MAC for Liberty print printed in color on the top. Beauty Powders can be used for a variety of things–blushing, highlighting, setting, or what-have-you. Your usage depends on both the shade itself and how well it shows up on your skin tone. Shell Pearl may be a blush on fairer skin tones, but deeper skin tones will find it is more of a highlighter.

Beauty Powder ($25.00 U.S. / $30.00 CDN)

• Summer Rose is a satin-y pinky-plum with very subtle, nearly invisible shimmer/sheen. This is a repromote from last year’s Rose Romance Collection, but it doesn’t have the rose petal embellished design–on the flip side, this one is housed in special packaging. It has a smooth texture and can be layered for more intensity, though on first swipe, it’s quite sheer and soft. It doesn’t build up to an ultra intense shade by any means, but with two or three layers, it should show up on light and medium skin tones. Deeper, darker skin tones may find that this can look ashy, so I’d recommend swatching in-store first if possible!
• Shell Pearl is a beautiful peachy-coral with a soft golden peach sheen. For whatever reason, I never owned Shell Pearl when I first started my journey down the limited-edition lined path o’ MAC, but after I saw someone use it, I was like, “I need that!” So, finally, I get to have it, and it’s lovely. It’s soft, smooth, and delivers a beautiful glow to the skin. It’s not super pigmented, so for medium and darker skin tones, it’s more of a highlighter or potentially an all-over highlighter than a blush, but lighter skin tones may find it a suitable blusher as well as a highlighter.  Shell Pearl has also been released in the past, but I believe that was over a year ago.
