MAC Zen Rose Sheen Supreme Lipstick

MAC Too Supreme: Zen Rose Sheen Supreme Lipstick

MAC Too Supreme is repromoting thirteen shades of Supreme Sheen Lipsticks ($14.50 each for 0.12 oz.). There are twenty-one shades currently available and that are part of the permanent range. All except Zen Rose, which is described officially as a “bright mid-tone fuchsia.” For the other shades being repromoted in this collection, check out the Sheen Supreme Lipstick tag for previous reviews. I will review the new glosses tomorrow as I’m still testing out the wear.

Zen Rose is a brightened, medium-dark fuchsia-pink with semi-opaque color coverage (you can just see my lip freckle peeking through). It has a creamy finish but doesn’t settle into lip lines, which is absolutely fantastic. Shades like MAC Quick Sizzle and MAC Pink Pigeon are similar but are noticeably brighter and look more intense when worn. MAC Love Forever is purpler. MAC Show Orchid is irridescent and brighter. MAC Rare Exotic is pinker. MAC Something New is just slightly pinker. NARS Schiap is a smidgen brighter.

Overall, I like but don’t love the formula. The way I feel about it largely depends on the shade, so in the case of Zen Rose, I really do like both the formula and the shade. It’s creamy and slick enough that it glides onto lips with ease but doesn’t slip and slide when worn. The wear is good, too, coming in at four hours (and for something with as much “wetness” as Sheen Supreme, that’s pretty good). I do not find the formula particular hydrating, though it is not drying.

	It's a pretty shade that should flatter most complexions, because there's that less-than-natural purple edge to it--purples tend to be very lovely (especially when red-toned) on both warm and cool skin tones.

MAC Seasonally Supreme Lipstick (Part 2)

As promised, here is a review for the remaining four shades from MAC Seasonally Supreme, which hits counters on August 11th and all shades join the permanent range. Each retails for $14.50 and contains 0.12 oz. of product. This post only looks at four of the twelve shades, and you can see the rest of the shades in this original review. The four include: Asian Flower (creamy lavender), Blossom Culture (soft pink with pearlized pigments), Sheer Mandarin (mid-tone yellow orange), and Supreme Style (light coral pink with pearlized pigments).

Asian Flower is a fuchsia purple with pale silver micro-shimmer. It gives opaque color coverage, and it has a glossy shine. It’s much, much lighter than MAC Playtime. It is purpler than MAC Love Forever but less vibrant than Dolce & Gabbana Violet, MAC Petals & Peacocks, and MAC Florida.
Blossom Culture is a rosy pink with a hint of coral and pale white micro-shimmer. The color coverage is nearly opaque, but a hint of my lips natural color peeks through. Giorgio Armani #507 is lighter and Lancome Fleur de Lis is a little brighter.
Sheer Mandarin is a peach-tinged orange with a creamy finish and opaque color coverage. It is lighter and less brown compared to Cle de Peau Just Joey. MAC Tea Ceremony is a darker version of Sheer Mandarin.
Supreme Style is a soft pink flecked with beige and champagne shimmer. It has a frostier finish and more of a shine than a glossy finish. MAC Gem of Roses is darker, MAC Ever Hip is lighter, an Chanel Jersey Rose is less opaque.

The formula is lightweight overall, but some of the creamier shades are thicker when worn (think Happy Hibiscus). I get an average of three hours of wear on lighter shades and up to six hours with really rich, bold shades (think Korean Candy). The color coverage is semi-opaque to opaque. These are vanilla-scented, but I did not detect any taste. I find the lighter shades have a tendency to settle into lip lines and the effect becomes more noticeable as they wear and fade.

	There are some inconsistencies in the formula, like unevenness and chalkiness appearing the lightest shades, while medium to dark shades highlight the formula in the best way. The lighter shades require more precision and time to apply to ensure even color coverage.

MAC Seasonally Supreme introduces more shades to the permanent range of Supreme Sheen Lipsticks ($14.50 for 0.12 oz.). The formula is designed to have “the colour impact of a lipstick with the shine sheen of a lipglass.” It’s described as “lightweight, non-sticky, slick to apply, and comfortable to wear.” The collection debuts in full on August 4th across North America, but for now, I do have five shades to share with you. They are: Fashion City (neutral coral pink), Happy Hibiscus (creamy white pink), Korean Candy (bright orange-red), Royal Azalea (bright mid-tone pink), and Tea Ceremony (neutral pink beige).

Once I’m able to purchase the rest, I will certainly have those swatches for you. Please note, you can find photos and reviews for Bare Again, Insanely It, and Supremely Confident from the initial launch. The shades I do not have at this time are: Asian Flower, Blossom Culture, Sheer Mandarin, and Supreme Style.

Fashion City is a darkened peach with opaque color coverage and a slightly milky appearance. It has subtle white shimmer and a glossy sheen. MAC might describe this as a pink coral, but it looked peach in the tube and when worn. It’s a touch pinker than Gotta Dash!, while Chanel Delicieuse is a bit darker.
Happy Hibiscus is an ultra-pale, pink-white with a creamy finish and opaque color. This color is extremely unflattering against my skin tone. MAC Mlle appears more lilac and darker, while MAC Playing Koi is darker and pinker. MAC Overtime is much darker and pinker. MAC Pretty Please is similar but less opaque. Supremely Confident, MAC Innocence, Beware, MAC Fleshpot, NARS Madere are less pink, more beige, but similar in lightness.
Korean Candy is a rich orange-red (more red than orange) with a glossy shine and opaque color coverage. It is redder than Giorgio Armani #405. MAC Strut Your Stuff is a bit more orange, while OCC Stalker is similar. Urban Decay Revolution is a little darker and redder.
Royal Azalea is a light, cotton candy pink with blue undertones and creamy, opaque color coverage. It is bluer in tone and lighter compared to Behave Yourself. It is a little paler compared to MAC All Styled Up and MAC Viva Glam Gaga. It is pinker than MAC Pink Friday. I imagine Snob will be quite close, too.
Tea Ceremony is a darkened peach-brown with a creamy finish and opaque color coverage. Korres #36 is a little browner and darker. MAC Mocha is a little pinker and darker, but it is similar.

The formula is lightweight overall, but some of the creamier shades are thicker when worn (think Happy Hibiscus). These are vanilla-scented, but I did not detect any taste.

I find the lighter shades have a tendency to settle into lip lines and the effect becomes more noticeable as they wear and fade. Some of the creamy but pale shades have a chalky look on lips, because the consistency is just not quite even. The finish of these is definitely glossier than the traditional lipstick. They are somewhat moisturizing, but after four or so hours, my lips could use more moisture. If I did not include a swatch or comparison below, it is most likely because I do not own the color to compare.

BARE AGAIN is a more opaque version of Hug Me. It is rosier than Cherish, lighter than Kinda Sexy. Woo Me is lighter and pinker.
BEHAVE YOURSELF is similar to Viva Glam Gaga and Of Royalty. Snob is cooler-toned and more opaque.
CAN’T GET ENOUGH is a little lighter than Sweet Ever After.
CAN’T RESIST is slightly less red than Fresh Moroccan. Funbathing is plummier, Rose Maiden is lighter and pinker, Odyssey is much plummier.
FULL SPEED is nearly identical to Red Full Stop. Rozz Revival is deeper and redder, while See Sheer is less pink and bright. Chatterbox and Lustering are really too pink to be anything like it. Vegas Volt is noticeably orange in comparison.
GOOD TO BE BAD is a less opaque version of Darkside. Deepest Wish is browner, as is Kittenish. Media has stronger berry tones. Love Peck is also similar, though a touch darker, depending on how you apply it.
GOTTA DASH! is lighter than So Vain, more orange and pigmented than Funshine and Blowdry. (I don’t/couldn’t find Ravishing or Shy Girl, unfortunately.)
INSANELY IT! is a more fuchsia version of Fusion Pink, while Full Fuchsia is a little too magenta. NARS Funny Face is a little cooler and more purpled.
LOOK AT HER! is less red and shimmery compared to Guerlain Ginger, but it is more copper than Bronze Shimmer. Bronzilla is a rosy, pale bronze but not like it.
NEW TEMPTATION is pinker and sheerer than Russian Red. I expect it is closer to MAC Red, but I do not own it to compare.
QUITE THE THING! is a less opaque, more shimmered version of Rebel. Show Orchid is brighter, more magenta.
SUPREMELY CONFIDENT is most like Fleshpot, which is a little darker. Creme d’Nude, Blankety, Myth, and Viva Glam Gaga 2 are all noticeably darker.
ULTRA DARLING is a touch darker than NARS Niagara, bit more muted than MAC Crosswires, and little redder than Korres #18. Fast Thrill has more shimmer and less coral.

* I don’t own any comparable to Impressive, though it seems a lot like Modesty and Midi-mauve.

MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick: New Temptation, Quite the Thing, Supremely Confident, Ultra Darling

MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick ($14.50 for 0.12 oz.) is a brand new (but permanent) range of lipsticks. According to MAC, the lipstick has strong, saturated color but comes with a modern glossed sheen, and these are moisturizing (but without tackiness). With fourteen shades in the line-up, I’ve split up them up into three parts, to control the volume of photos being downloaded per load. This post includes: New Temptation (vivid blue red), Quite the Thing! (deep blue plum), Supremely Confident (pale nude), and Ultra Darling (mid-tone yellow pink).

New Temptation is a semi-opaque, bright cherry red with a blue-base. It almost looks like a pinky red, especially if you use a sheerer layer. It is comparable to a less opaque, glossier MAC Red.
Quite the Thing! is a brightened plum with fuchsia shimmer and a glossy finish. It’s like a softer version of Rebel on me. It is similar to NYX Chloe in color.
Supremely Confident is a semi-opaque, cool-toned, pale beige with a slight rosiness. It is similar to Creme d’Nude and Fleshpot.
Ultra Darling is a semi-opaque, pinked coral with soft white shimmer and a semi-gloss shine. It’s a little redder than NARS Niagara, a bit pinker than MAC Crosswires.

my thoughts on the formula: Sheen Supremes are light to medium-weight lipsticks that provide some moisturization and wear for three to five hours (lighter shades like Bare Again go for three, while deeper shades like New Temptation hang on for five). Some of shades seem to settle into lip lines a bit, and as they wear and fade, settle even more into lip lines. These have a part-shine, part-gloss finish, though it is more sheen and shine than a truly glossy finish. They are vanilla-scented.

MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick: Good to Be Bad, Gotta Dash!, Impressive, Insanely It, Look at Her!

MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick ($14.50 for 0.12 oz.) is a brand new (but permanent) range of lipsticks. According to MAC, the lipstick has strong, saturated color but comes with a modern glossed sheen, and these are moisturizing (but without tackiness). With fourteen shades in the line-up, I’ve split up them up into three parts, to control the volume of photos being downloaded per load. This post includes: Good to Be Bad (deep burgundy), Gotta Dash! (pale coral), Impressive (neutral gilded plum), Insanely It (watermelon pink), and Look at Her! (metallic copper).

Good to Be Bad is a semi-opaque, reddened burgundy with a semi-gloss shine. This shade can be worn patted down, and it will look more like a lip stain. It’s less purple in comparison to Hang Up; less opaque and redder than Charred Red; and a touch lighter than Darkside.
Gotta Dash! is an opaque, lightened peach with a hint of coral. I’m hesitant to call it a coral, because it looks rather peach to me. It’s a little less pink compared to Shy Girl, a bit like Ravishing.
Impressive is a plummed rose with a little brown. This is one of the glossier ones, and it has a creamy consistency without being prone to unevenness (like Gotta Dash! has). It seems a little browner than Modesty, a little rosier than Midi-mauve.
Insanely It is a semi-opaque, bright fuchsia pink with magenta shimmer. This is one of the boldest shades of the fourteen, and it certainly is bright. It is redder than Full Fuchsia, a little pinker than Pink Fusion; it is very similar to NARS Funny Face.
Look at Her! is an opaque, gold-and-bronze shimmered metallic copper brown with a semi-gloss shine. Meltdown is probably the closest dupe in the permanent range, but it’s not really that comparable I’d say. NYX 24 Karat is the closest I could come up with, but it leans more golden than copper.
