MAC Mooncake Pro Longwear Paint Pot ($18.50 for 0.17 oz.) is described as a “warm beige.” It’s a golden beige with pale champagne sparkle and shimmer. I’m surprised MAC’s description didn’t mention any shimmer, pearl, or sparkle, because it is very sparkly. Urban Decay Space Cowboy is darker and more glittery. MAC Jaunty is lighter, less sparkly. MAC Summer Haze is more peach-hued and frosted. MAC Sweet Satisfaction is a bit browner and less shimmery. MAC Pure Flash is lighter.

It applied with mostly opaque color, but the glittery particles tended to cling to the lid and give it a crinkled look. The texture is fairly smooth and even, and it didn’t feel as gritty as some of the other more glittery Paint Pots have. The good news is that there is minimal fall out–I do get some, but it is more minor than it is a big deal and happened towards the end of the wear (the last two to three hours). Mooncake wore for ten hours without fading, but there was some faint creasing and minor fall out. It’s one of the better more sparkly shades of Paint Pots, but it still has some issues. I think those who love the sparkly Paint Pots will likely love this one too, but if you weren’t a fan of them previously, I don’t think this is going to convert you.

MAC Eclair Pro Longwear Paint Pot ($18.50 for 0.17 oz.) is described as a “light chocolate with gold pearl.” It’s a warm-toned, bronzy brown with copper and bronze shimmer. MAC Indianwood is more golden, less red-toned. Chanel Intuition is more frosted and a powder product. MAC Mulch is slightly less red-toned and a powder eyeshadow. Giorgio Armani #28 is browner. Benefit Dandy Brandy is less warm-toned and a powder eyeshadow.

Now, THIS is the kind of shade that embodies what made MAC Paint Pots famous in the first place. Eclair is creamy without being too thin or too thick–creamy without being slick, slippery, or so creamy that the color creases before it has a chance to set. It sets quickly, but it has just enough give to be blendable along the edges. The color payoff is top notch with full color coverage–and if you really want subtler color, apply very little and blend with a fluffy brush or fingertip (which tends to be better, as the warmth of your finger keeps the product more movable). It lasted ten hours without creasing or fading (no primer).

MAC Fancy Frosting Pro Longwear Paint Pot ($18.50 for 0.17 oz.) is described as a “frosted white.” It’s a silvery white with a sparkly, frosted finish. MAC Virgin Silver is a touch darker. MAC She’s Got Class is more frosted. shu uemura Smoky Velvet #3 is brighter. MAC Angelic is very similar (no glitter). Chanel Fantasme has more sparkle (less metallic).

MAC’s Paint Pot formula is supposed to be “long-wearing,” “highly-pigmented,” and have “seamless coverage without weight or caking.” Fancy Frosting is more like the glittery Paint Pots that MAC has released more frequently in the past couple of years, and so it is nowhere near as smooth, pigmented, or as long-wearing as the creamier (and typically, less shimmery) shades. This one builds to semi-sheer coverage, but you really have to build layer by layer and give each layer time to dry, or else it will turn caky and bunch up on itself. It’s best used as a sheer wash of sparkle. When I wore it, there was some fall out–a few stray sparkles had managed to get loose, though it wasn’t too noticeable. I didn’t see any creasing or fading over an eight hour period.

MAC Vintage Selection Pro Longwear Paint Pot ($18.50 for 0.17 oz.) is described as a “frosted dirty peach.” It’s a subtly, warm-toned, lightened brown with a slightly frosted, champagne sheen. Make Up For Ever #13 is less warm-toned. Benefit RSVP is also similar. bareMinerals Libation is very similar but a powder product.

Of the seven shades (Let Me Pop! wasn’t available for purchase when I bought these, but since there wasn’t a noticeable difference between these and when they originally debuted, you can see a swatch here), Vintage Selection was by far the best performer. It was nicely pigmented, incredibly blendable, and applied beautifully–smoothly, evenly, and wore all day long without fading or creasing. This is the kind of consistency and quality that made Paint Pots my go-to base for years (and more to the point, what made them so popular when they originally debuted).  It’s creamy with just the right amount of slip to make for quick and easy blending and application, but it still dries down and sets without ever gathering in the creases.

FYI: the ingredient list for the Pro Longwear Paint Pots is the same as for the regular Paint Pots when I compared against the list for Bare Study/Constructivist! It’s off by one ingredient when compared to the Paint Pots from Posh Paradise.

MAC Let’s Skate Pro Longwear Paint Pot ($18.50 for 0.17 oz.) is described as a “pale pink with pearl.” It’s a soft, pale pink with a gold shimmer-sheen. The closest dupe I could think of was bareMinerals Glitterati which has a similar pale pink base with a golden sheen, but it is a powder product and is more metallic in finish.

This shade had really great pigmentation–it was fully opaque on the lid, and it didn’t need to be built up in endless layers either. It wasn’t the most flattering when it dried down on my lid, but from a normal viewing distance, it didn’t create noticeable crepiness. I didn’t experience any fall out with this shade, which was definitely a happy surprise! It had a creamy, blendable consistency that dried down just slightly longer than a cream/matte Paint Pot but not so long that it had time to gather in the creases and settle there. After twelve hours, there were no signs of creasing or fading.

MAC Frozen Violet Pro Longwear Paint Pot ($18.50 for 0.17 oz.) is described as a “frosted purple silver.” It is a mauve-brown with silver sparkle. MAC Dangerous Cuvee is cooler-toned, grayer. Tarte Amazed by Amethyst is a bit darker and less sparkly, plus it is a powder product. MAC Shale is browner and a powder product.

Frozen Violet applied more smoothly and evenly than a few of the other shades, though it was only semi-opaque. I did have to build up the color in really thin, sheer layers, because it would easily clump together if I tried to apply a thicker layer. I noticed a few stray bits of silver sparkle, but it was minor. It wore for twelve hours without fading or creasing. So long as you don’t mind some sheerness to the color, I think this one is worth a look.
