MAC & Beth Ditto: Pro Longwear Lipcremes

There are five new (and limited edition) shades of MAC Pro Longwear Lipcreme ($17.00 for 0.12 oz.) featured in the Beth Ditto collection. These include: Booyah!!! (bright orange), Dear Diary (bright neon pink), Heart Hangover (deep purple), Love Long Distance (light mauve), and You’re Perfect Already (neutral pale pink).

Booyah!!! is a medium-dark orange with some brightness but it doesn’t turn neon. It’s opaque and has a creamy finish. I thought it was a darker orange, but it’s actually not so! MAC Sail la Vie and MAC Scarlet Ibis are darker and redder. MAC Morange and MAC Neon Orange are very, very similar, but they’re both a little brighter. MAC Good to Go is slightly darker. Illamasqua Flare is brighter and matte. Clarins Clementine is warmer.
Dear Diary is a vibrant fuchsia magenta pink. It’s opaque and has a creamy finish. MAC Candy Yum Yum is slightly cooler-toned and has more of a matte finish, but it’s very, very close–I think there’s a less neon quality with Dear Diary. MAC Pink Pigeon is a little pinker, not as neon. MAC Show Orchid is darker and pinker. MAC Quick Sizzle is much pinker. NARS Schiap is pinker.
Heart Hangover is a brown burgundy. It applies opaque, but I found the consistency of this one surprisingly dry–this formula tends to be creamy, but this pulled and tugged a bit. MAC Soulfully Rich is much darker. MAC Prince Noir is also much darker. Dolce & Gabbana Amethyst is redder. Milani Black Cherry is redder and sheerer. MAC Media is redder. MAC Hang Up is a bit redder.
Love Long Distance is a semi-opaque pale, cool-toned pink with white frost. This has a really frosted, metallic-like finish. This was the thirteenth product I swatched, and it was less forgiving on my lips compared to the other shades. Revlon Cupcake is similar in color but has a glossier, less frosted finish. NYX Rose shares the same finish, but it’s warmer and pinker. MAC Behave Yourself is also a bit similar.
You’re Perfect Already is a pinky beige with a little hint of peach. It’s opaque and has a creamy finish. On my lips, the peachy tones disappeared for the most part, since there are a few natural pink tones to my lips. MAC Angel is yellower and darker. MAC Playing Koi is peachier. MAC Overtime is yellower. MAC So Sweet, So Easy is pinker.

I think this is a pretty good lipstick formula, but MAC claims it wears for up to twelve hours, and this has always been where I’ve had problems–I get between six and eight hours of wear with most shades I’ve tested. The Pro Longwear Lipcreme formula is supposed to be lightweight, creamy, comfortable, non-feathering, non-transferring, and moisturizing. Such a tall order! All but Heart Hangover were very creamy, and they glided on easily and provided even color without any real effort. Because of the slip and creaminess, they do feel comfortable once applied, though I don’t think I’d say they’re really lightweight. They don’t feel heavy or thick, but I do feel them on my lips.

They have a satin/semi-matte finish–it begins with more of a satiny sheen, but it wears off after the first couple of hours of wear. These are most definitely not transfer-proof. I’ve done kiss-tests in the past, and it certainly leaves behind product on my coffee cup. It’s less prone to transfer compared to the average lipstick, but it does have some transfer. I don’t have feathering problems with the product, but the circular shape of the lipstick itself can make precision application more difficult, especially if you have smaller lips. I always find it turns out a bit wonky around my cupid’s bow if I don’t pay attention.

These are vanilla-scented, but I haven’t detected any taste. Of this set, I tested out the wear of Dear Diary and Love Long Distance, which wore eight and six hours respectively–true-to-form for these lipsticks. Darker shades tend to last around eight hours, while lighter shades last around six hours. My lips always feel normal after wearing one of these for six to eight hours; not dehydrated, not ultra-hydrated.

P.S. — I really loved the sentiment behind You’re Perfect Already. Why hasn’t there been an empowerment collection by MAC? I’d love to see that. Talk about positive, uplifting, and always nice to see.

	This lipstick is a good formula with the exception of the wear time not making it to twelve hours--it lasts awhile, and it outlasts regular lipsticks by nearly double. The colors are generally opaque, have a creamy consistency, and apply evenly.

MAC Approaching Storm Pro Longwear Lipcreme

MAC Daphne Guinness: Pro Longwear Lipcremes

With the Daphne Guinness collection (due in-stores on December 26th), there are four limited edition shades of MAC Pro Longwear Lipcreme ($17.00 for 0.12 oz.): Approaching Storm (deep rose), Red Dwarf (blue pink), Seasoned Plum (mid-tone lavender), and Warp Speed (light silver).

Approaching Storm is a dark berry red with a hint of brown. It has opaque color coverage. The shade reminded me of Endless Drama, which is perhaps a touch deeper. It’s also a bit like MAC Musky Amethyst.
Red Dwarf is a muted raspberry pink with opaque color coverage. It’s a bit darker and more berry compared to MAC Positively Dashing. It’s not as vibrant as MAC Deliciously Forbidden. It’s just a hint more muted compared to Guerlain Bee. Milani Sexy Rose is similar in color but has a frosted finish.
Seasoned Plum is a pinked purple with a cream finish. It delivers opaque color with little product. MAC Goes and Goes is less pink (and I think it’d be the same with Up the Amp).
Warp Speed is a pale silver with shimmer. I’d say the coverage is semi-opaque, but it’s hard to judge, because it applies very unevenly and doesn’t sit well on lips. It tends to bunch up in color. It’s not as cool-toned or as opaque as MAC Metal Maven. It’s more silvered and less metallic compared to MAC Bubbles. It’s more silver and creamier in comparison to MAC Eloquent Air.

These resemble shades I feel like we’ve seen recently. I was actually surprised at how similar Approaching Storm and Red Dwarf were to the Pro Longwear Lipcremes that came out with Styledriven just a couple of months ago! I do think that they’re both very flattering shades for both cool and warm complexions, and they’re very appropriate fall/winter shades. They’re not too vampy, either, which should make them more wearable. I can see Red Dwarf being very pretty with a neutral eye.

These lipsticks don’t quite get to the stated wear (12 hours), but they do wear well; I tend to get seven to eight hours of wear with darker shades (think Approaching Storm and Red Dwarf), while lighter shades tend to wear about average or less. Warp Speed doesn’t seem to wear well, though, and it looks like it needs a reapplication after two and a half hours. Generally, the formula is creamy and glides on easily without being drying. MAC Styledriven: Pro Longwear Lipcremes (Part 2)

MAC Pro Longwear Lipcreme ($17.00 for 0.12 oz.) are a long-wearing lipstick with a “lightweight texture, creamy finish, and comfortable long-wear.” It claims to wear for up to twelve hours without feathering or transferring–and “helps lips stay soft and hydrated.” This formula originally debuted last year and again with Styledriven. You can read my in-depth review here, as I’m only going to summarize the finer points in this post. All shades from this collection are permanent. The shades featured in this post are: Prolong (clean red with blue undertones), So Very Good (mid-tone plum with pearl), Soft Sell (light yellow-pink), Soulfully Rich (deep dirty purple with red pearl), Till Tomorrow (mid-tone dirty mauve), and To the Future! (dirty neutral pink with pearl).

Prolong is a rich, blue-based red with ruby micro-shimmer and opaque color coverage. It’s similar to many reds (see the swatch gallery).
So Very Good is a darkened plummy red with a soft, frosted sheen and opaque color coverage. It’s a touch darker than Chanel Impertinente. Clarins Baroque is redder. It’s not quite as dark as MAC Cunning.
Soft Sell is a berry-tinted pink with a soft pink micro-shimmer. It’s mostly opaque in color coverage with more of a frosted finish. It’s less pink compared to MAC Offshoot and not quite as dark as Clarins Blackberry.
Soulfully Rich is a deep, dark berried brown with a rather glossy shine. It has more of a glaze or lustre-like feel, so it also goes on uneven and slips around more. It is a weaker version of MAC Prince Noir. NARS Train Bleu is purpler. Make Up For Ever #49 is similar.
Till Tomorrow is a pinky mauve with a creamy finish and opaque color coverage. It is similar to Chanel Stunt.
To the Future! is a peachy nude with a hint of pink. The pink keeps it from looking washed out. It has a soft, frosted finish but still has opaque color coverage. MAC Naked Bliss is pinker. MAC Naturally Eccentric is lighter. It is very similar to Guerlain Gabrielle and Korres #13 Natural Pink.

I don’t get close to twelve hours of wear with this lipstick; I get great wear and substantially longer wear than the average lipstick, but it’s not twelve hours. The darker shades–of course–wear longer and look better after seven or eight hours than lighter shades, but both do a solid job of managing to wear for six to eight hours and getting through eating/drinking. This is the major source of lost points for this product, because MAC claims up to twelve and in reality, I get up to eight (on average) before I feel it’s time to reapply.

The formula delivers most opaque color coverage with a creamy, glide-on formula that doesn’t feel too slick but never stiff or dry. Most shades have a semi-matte finish, so there is a little shine. These are vanilla-scented but have no detectable taste. Instead of your typical MAC lipstick, they’re more circular, which may take some adjustments in application; if you have thinner lips, it may be a little frustrating.

I wouldn’t say it’s ultra moisturizing, but after wearing one for eight hours, my lips feel about par for the course; not dried out but would appreciate some lip balm. I didn’t experience any feathering or bleeding lip color, but they are not transfer-resistant (I did the kiss test, no dice). There is less transfer than the average lipstick but still a fair amount.

The shades featured in this post are: Dress It Up (light blue-pink), Endless Drama (deep berry blue-red), Extended Play (dirty red, yellow undertone), Good to Go (loudmouth orange), Love Forever (bright blue-pink), and Positively Dashing (mid-tone berry blue-red).

Dress It Up is a softened blue-based pink with a cremay finish. It has nearly opaque color coverage with a light shine in the finish. It’s not as pale as MAC Royal Azalea. It’s more opaque than MAC Behave Yourself. It’s not quite as cool-toned as MAC All Styled Up or as bright as MAC Viva Glam Gaga.
Endless Drama is a deep berry red with a soft, frosted finish with ruby micro-shimmer. It has mostly opaque color coverage and subtle shine. It’s a wee bit darker than Guerlain Gigolo, NYX Violet Ray, and Make UP For Ever #13.
Extended Play is a reddish-orange meshed with brown. It hasopaque color coverage with a fair amount of shine. MAC Legendary is darker and browner. Shiseido Mystery is glossier. CoverGirl Captivate is a touch lighter.
Good to Go is a bright, almost-neon orange with opaque color coverage. It is similar to MAC Neon Orange and MAC Morange.
Love Forever is a softened magenta-fuchsia with a creamy finish and blue undertones. It has a fair amount of shine but still delivers opaque color coverage. MAC Candy Yum Yum is much brighter. It’s not as pink as NARS Schiap but is more comparable to MAC Florida. It is darker than MAC Asian Flower. It’s similar to MAC Petals & Peacocks.
Positively Dashing is a raspberry pink with a subtle frosted finish. The color coverage is opaque. It is a little lighter and less intense compared to MAC Deliciously Forbidden. Milani Sexy Rose is a touch brighter and frostier.

Go For It vs. Goes and Goes

The Dupe List: MAC Pro Longwear Lipcreme

Here are some dupes and swatch comparisons of several Lipcreme shades!

Go For It vs. Goes and Goes: Ding, ding! Goes and Goes is a more opaque version of Go For It (from In the Groove). I would have also swatched Up the Amp next to it, but I don’t own it (or I’ve lost it, either way, it’s MIA).
Overtime vs. Angel: Similar, like very competitive sisters. Overtime is clearly a yellow-based pink when compared to Angel, which is a cooler pink (but I’d describe as a neutral pink overall).
Chatterbox vs. Unlimited Sisters but not twins–Chatterbox is a touch brighter and pinker, while Unlimited almost looks like it has a touch of plum in it when swatched next to Chatterbox. The finish/consistency are nearly the same, though.
Morange vs. Good to Go vs. Neon Orange: WINNER! WINNER IN THE ORANGE DRESS! Even with my overly critical eye, I find it pretty difficult to tell the difference between the three of these. Morange looks to be just a touch lighter than the other two, perhaps.
Queen’s Sin vs. Perpetual Flame: Not so dupe-tastic. Queen’s Sin is redder and darker (and obviously has a frosty finish).
Dubonnet vs. Extended Play: If you have one, you don’t need the other. They’re virtually identical.
Extended Play vs. Russian Red vs. Brave Red vs. Prolong: Russian Red is way too bright to be similar to Extended Play, and it’s not quite as pinky as Prolong (which may be closer to Ruby Woo, though not as red). Brave Red is a slightly sheerer, glossier version of Extended Play, though.
