MAC Hi Jinks! Casual Colour Lip & Cheek Colour
MAC Hi Jinks! Casual Colour Lip & Cheek Colour

MAC Hi Jinks! Casual Colour Lip & Cheek Colour ($21.00 for 0.43 oz.) is described as a “bright coral.” It’s a medium, coral-orange with warm undertones and a soft sheen. It had good, buildable color payoff, and the texture was thin, emollient, and creamy. On the lips, it’s very unforgiving and will cling to any unevenness, dryness, cracked/chapped areas on the lips, and in general, it looks dry (and feels drying) on. The color lasted four hours on my lips, but it wore longer on cheeks at seven hours. IT Cosmetics Pretty in Peony (P, $24.00) is more shimmery, powder. theBalm Pie (P) is similar, slightly pinker. Tarte True Love (P, $26.00) is lighter, powder. Chanel Intonation (69) (LE, $38.00) is brighter. Tom Ford Beauty Flush (P, $55.00) is brighter, powder. Illamasqua Dixie (P, $26.00) is slightly pinker. See comparison swatches/ view dupes.

MAC Young at Heart Casual Colour Lip & Cheek Colour ($21.00 for 0.43 oz.) is described as a “bright pink.” It’s a cool-toned, cotton candy pink with a luminous sheen. Again, as a lip product, it’s a poor performer–clingy, drying, terribly unflattering on (makes lips look totally devoid of moisture!)–though it wears three and a half hours as a lip color/stain. It’s better as a blush, clocking in at seven hours of wear and has buildable, medium color coverage. Milani Delizioso Pink (10) (P, $7.99) is a powder. Too Faced Jingle All the Way Blush (LE) is more shimmery, powder. Givenchy It-Girl Purple (P, $44.00) is lighter, powder. Too Faced Lollipop (LE) is warmer, powder. Too Faced Raindrops on Roses (LE) is warmer, powder. Urban Decay Quickie (LE) is powder. MAC Pure Femininity (LE, $20.00) is lighter, warmer, powder. theBalm Down Boy (P, $21.00) is warmer, powder. MAC Peony Petal (P, $21.00) is powder. MAC I’m the One (LE, $21.00) is powder. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Playland Collection
MAC Playland Collection

MAC Playland Collection pops up online on April 10th April 15th (MAC corporate confirmed as of 4/10 8:26AM PST) and hits stores and counters on April 17th. The emphasis of this collection is likely going to be on the lipsticks, I think, given the finish, brightness, and opacity of the six. I’ll be picking up the two shades of Casual Color I don’t have, and as soon as I receive and test, you’ll see reviews for those as well.  The Chromagraphic Pencil formula is excellent, but it’s long been part of the permanent Pro range and has been released previously in a consumer launch as well, so while lovely, they are repromotes, which is the same case for three of the four Pigments.  The Lipglasses were a miss for me–almost all had problems applying evenly.

Nordstrom has Playland available online now (4/14 at 8:54AM PST).

MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencils
MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencils

The new MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencils ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) were disappointing overall, due to their uneven application and short wear time.  They also have a lot less shine than traditional gloss, which may be a great thing if you find gloss too shiny, but it might not be what you’d expect, given these are modeled after lipgloss.  They’re somewhat tacky, thin (almost clingy in a way), lightly hydrating, and have semi-opaque coverage (on average).  At this price point, MAC offers other lip formulas that are better and have more product for your money, too.  There are a lot of jumbo-sized lip pencils on the market, but these fall short.  The most positive aspect was that they are twist-up pencils, there is no need to sharpen, which reduces the amount of wasted product.

MAC Spontaneous Patentpolish Lip Pencil
MAC Spontaneous Patentpolish Lip Pencil

Here are the last three shades from the new MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) range that I’ve finished testing! You can check out part one for an overview of the formula (and in-depth reviews of Go for Girlie, Innocent, Revved Up), part two (Fearless, Kittenish, Patentpink), and part three (round-up coming up next!). To summarize: the formula is lightly hydrating, short-wearing (two to three hours), moderately tacky, and have light to moderate shine. The color coverage varies from semi-sheer to semi-opaque. I’ve also had some issues with even application with some shades.

MAC Spontaneous Patentpolish Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is described as a “soft plum with pearl.” It’s a muted, pinky-mauve with fine, champagne shimmer. This shade had semi-sheer to almost semi-opaque color coverage, but it seemed to be one of the sheerer shades in the range. It wore well for two and a half hours on me. MAC Kittenish (LE, $20.00) is lighter, less shimmery. L’Oreal I Pink You’re Cute (175) (P, $8.95) is less glossy. Maybelline Blush Essence (095) (P, $8.99) is lighter. Maybelline Mauve Mystique (025) (P, $8.99) is less shimmery. Buxom Centerfold (LE, $21.00) is less glossy, less shimmery. Chanel Rendez-vous (87) (P, $34.00) is less glossy, cooler-toned. Urban Decay Rush (P, $22.00) is warmer, less shimmery, less glossy. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Sultana Patentpolish Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is described as a “dark grape.” It’s a neutral-to-warm-toned, reddish-berry with a soft shine. It had semi-opaque color coverage, but it applied extremely unevenly and settled into lip lines. It only wore for three hours, which is quite short for such a deep shade. Revlon Embellished (P, $7.49) is lighter. Chanel Controversy (72) (P, $32.00) is browner. MAC Sweet Succulence (LE, $16.00) is similar, less glossy. Laura Mercier Merlot (P, $26.00) is cooler-toned. Giorgio Armani #408 (P, $32.00) is redder. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Teen Dream Patentpolish Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is described as a “bright coral orange.” It’s a brightened pop of light-medium orange with a creamy, lightly glossy finish. It had opaque color coverage that applied very evenly overall. This shade even lasted for a full four hours, which was quite long compared to many other shades in the range. Tom Ford Beauty Sweet Spot (05) (LE, $49.00) is lighter. Givenchy Mandarine Bolero (304) (P, $36.00) is darker. MAC Saigon Summer (LE, $16.00) is darker, more shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Berry Bold Patentpolish Lip Pencil
MAC Berry Bold Patentpolish Lip Pencil

Here are the next three shades from the new MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) range that I’ve finished testing! You can check out part one for an overview of the formula (and in-depth reviews of Go for Girlie, Innocent, Revved Up) and part two (Fearless, Kittenish, Patentpink). To summarize: the formula is lightly hydrating, short-wearing (two to three hours), moderately tacky, and have light to moderate shine. The color coverage varies from semi-sheer to semi-opaque. I’ve also had some issues with even application with some shades.

MAC Berry Bold Patentpolish Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is described as an “orange-red.” It’s a brightened, medium-dark orange-red with warm undertones and a shiny finish. There’s nothing “Berry” about this shade at all (and even the official description agrees). It had semi-opaque color coverage that applied mostly evenly. This shade wore well for three and a half hours. Shiseido Lust (RD305) (P, $25.00) is more orange, glossier. Illamasqua Touch (P, $22.00) is darker, more shimmery. MAC Cherry Glaze (LE, $20.00) is darker, redder. Too Faced Red Stiletto (P, $21.00) is darker. Givenchy Carmin Escarpin (306) (P, $36.00) is more orange, less red. NARS Wonder (LE, $25.00) is darker, glossier. Chanel Exces (P, $32.00) is redder, glossier. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Hopelessly Devoted Patentpolish Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is described as a “bright clean fuchsia.” It’s a cool-toned, fuchsia pink with blue undertones and a glossier finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, and the color applied fairly evenly. This shade was also glossier than the others. It lasted for three hours on me. Guerlain Rose Grenat (864) (LE, $49.50) is more opaque, darker. YSL Rose Asarine (34) (P, $34.00) is warmer, more opaque. Revlon Adorned (P, $7.49) is more shimmery, more opaque. Revlon Whimsical (115) (P, $8.99) is very similar. MAC Lickable (P, $16.00) is less glossy, cooler-toned. MAC Girl About Town (P, $16.00) is cooler-toned, more matte. Guerlain Gigi (P, $49.50) is brighter, redder. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Pleasant Patentpolish Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is described as a “rosy pink.” It’s a medium-dark, pinky-red with subtle cool undertones and a soft shine. It had semi-opaque pigmentation but it applied somewhat unevenly. This shade wore well for three and a half hours and left a very slight stain. Guerlain Rose Grenat (864) (LE, $49.50) is cooler-toned, more opaque. YSL Rose Asarine (34) (P, $34.00) is warmer. MAC Feeling Amorous? (LE, $20.00) is cooler-toned. Revlon Whimsical (115) (P, $8.99) is cooler-toned. Giorgio Armani #523 (P, $29.00) is glossier. Chanel Suspense (P, $34.00) is less glossy. Guerlain Gigi (P, $49.50) is brighter, cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Fearless Patentpolish Lip Pencil
MAC Fearless Patentpolish Lip Pencil

Here are the next three shades from the new MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) range that I’ve finished testing! You can check out part one for an overview of the formula (and in-depth reviews of Go for Girlie, Innocent, Revved Up). To summarize: the formula is lightly hydrating, short-wearing (two to three hours), moderately tacky, and have light to moderate shine. The color coverage varies from semi-sheer to semi-opaque. I’ve also had some issues with even application with some shades.

MAC Fearless Patentpolish Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is described as a “deep blue-pink.” It’s a medium-dark, cool-toned pink with blue undertones and a luminous shine. It had semi-opaque color coverage, but it did not apply as evenly as I would like–luckily, with this particular shade, it wasn’t as noticeable from afar. It wore well for three hours. Milani Pink Lady (07) (P, $5.49) is lighter, glossier. L’Oreal Florid Pink (LE, $7.99) is very similar. Edward Bess First Kiss (P, $30.00) is warmer, lighter. Urban Decay Lovechild (P, $19.00) is warmer, lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Kittenish Patentpolish Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is described as a “mauvey pink.” It’s a softened, muted light-medium pink with neutral-to-cool undertones and a creamy, lightly glossed finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and it applied fairly evenly–this is one of the best I’ve reviewed so far. The color lasted for almost three hours. Bobbi Brown Pink Flush (LE, $25.00) is lighter, less glossy. Too Faced Razzle Dazzle Rose (P, $21.00) iis slightly cooler-toned, less shiny. Urban Decay Lovechild (P, $19.00) is warmer, brighter, less glossy. NYX Paparazzi (P, $4.00) is less glossy, slightly warmer. NARS Roman Holiday (P, $26.00) is cooler-toned, lighter, less glossy. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Patentpink Patentpolish Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is described as a “washed-out lilac.” It’s a cool-toned, light pink with bluish-gray undertones and a light shine. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, which applied somewhat evenly–more evenly than anticipated for this type of color–but could use improvement in that area. It wore well for just over two hours. MAC Rose Lily (LE, $16.00) is lighter, less glossy. MAC Long Love Love (P, $19.50) is glossier, lighter. MAC Divine Choice (P, $22.00) is darker, warmer, less glossy. MAC Saint Germain (LE, $15.00) is glossier, brighter. MAC Enchantee (LE, $18.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
