5 Beautiful Berry Lipsticks

Reader Brittany requested a five ways post for berry lips, so here are five of my picks for berry lipsticks (and I’ll do glosses next!) My trick for wearing darker shades like this is to keep eyes soft and neutral–think your-lid-but-better kind of colors with a medium-dark brown, taupe, or plum in the crease.

• Guerlain Gigolo Rouge G Lipstick — luxurious berry-red with ruby micro-shimmer
• MAC Odyssey Lipstick — medium-dark berry with a hint of plum
• NYX Violet Ray Lipstick — deep, dark berry with red tones
• Thierry Mugler Dream Rouge Unique Lipstick — purpled berry with a very glossy finish

The Sultry Season: MAC Odyssey Lipstick

MAC Odyssey Lipstick ($14.50 for 0.10 oz.) is an opaque, berry-wine with a frost finish.  Odyssey is definitely a staple MAC shade for me–it’s perfect for the fall and winter, but it’s not too dark.  It’s a great choice for someone who doesn’t quite want to go ultra dark but still wants something with more depth than a milky pink, too.  It works well on both cool and warm skin tones, and it’s not overly frosty either.   During the holidays, you can add a little gold or red lipgloss to make it more festive.

Craving lipstick is a soft, muted pinked up raspberry with a creamy, opaque texture.

Captive lipstick is a muted, dirty plummy berry shade with a pink tone to it. Semi-sheer, so it’s not quite as bold as some of the other berry lipsticks.

New York Apple lipstick is a raspberryish red shade. It could easily be categorized as a red or a berry red, but I find it leans a bit berry for me.

Odyssey lipstick is a frosty, dark raspberry with a plum tone to it. It’s a bit intimidating in the tube, but it’s really quite wearable when applied to lips!

Dark Side lipstick is an ultra creamy, pigmented reddish plummy burgundy color. It’s extremely bold and dramatic.
