Pigments: Blue Brown, Dark Soul, Jigs & Jive, Naked; Reflects Blackened Red

MAC Smoky Thrillseekers Pigments/Glitter Set

Each pigment/glitter set includes four pigments and one glitter, each contains 0.09 oz. of product, according to the tin. The five glass vials are housed inside a tartan-decorated metal tin, and there is a plastic insert that keeps them standing together, but it’s removable, should you desire. I did find it curious that there were no inserts regarding uses (e.g. what’s eye/lip safe) in any of the sets, though.

This set includes: Blue Brown (deep brown with frosted green/blue reflection), Dark Soul (charcoal black smoked with gold), Jigs & Jive (naked taupe), Naked (fleshy beige with golden copper pearl), and Reflects Blackened Red (sparkling burgundy).

Blue Brown is a medium-dark brown with a strong teal reflective base. It’s very much a duochrome, and it is also similar to Club eyeshadow—just much, much more intense. It is a permanent shade.

Dark Soul is a smoldering charcoal gray with silver sheen and flecks of glitter. I never see the gold in this shade myself. It is a permanent shade.

Jigs & Jive is a softened tan brown with a champagne sheen. This is a new and limited edition shade to this set. I would say it’s similar to Tan pigment, which is permanent.

Naked is a soft, warmed up peach beige with subtle gold sheen. It makes for a great highlighter. It is a permanent shade.

Reflects Blackened Red is a darkened red-burgundy base with flecks of burgundy glitter and sheen. It is a permanent shade.

I think the pigment sets are a good value, and they’re always worth a peek if you’re into loose color or pigments. You’re getting 0.45 oz. of product for $32.50, while a single, full-sized pigment contains 0.15 oz. of product and retails for $19.50–essentially, this is $60 worth of pigments/glitters.

If you want to know more about how products are evaluated, read out Rating System FAQ!

Product: 28/30

Value: 10/10

Packaging: 4/5

RECOMMENDATION: This set contains four permanent shades and one new shade–which may be a bummer for some. Jigs & Jive is probably close enough to Tan that you could skip this set if you have Tan, though.

MAC Nude Collection: New Pigments

MAC’s Nude Collection is a PRO-only release (much like the Chromagraphic Pencils) and there really isn’t much to it. I will review Barelash Pro Longlash separately (probably next week), and I already covered the nude Chromagraphic Pencils here. This leaves us with two new PRO pigments — Naked Dark (medium beige with pearlized pigments) and Naked Deep Dark (dark beige with pearlized pigments).

Naked is a light, flesh-toned beige-pink. it’s almost like a nude champagne pink with a slight golden shimmer-sheen.

Naked Dark is a medium tan with a beige-nude tone with subtle gold sheen.

Naked Deep Dark is a darkened brown with an almost taupe edge when used wet. It also has a slight golden sheen.

There’s not much to say about these, to be honest! They’re three variations of flesh-toned (or nude, ha ha) colors in pigment form. Naked has always been around, but it’s always been a great highlighter and natural highlighter for those with lighter skin tones. These could also be mixed into moisturizer for a little shimmer and sheen on decolletage, too. All three shades were well pigmented when used wet, and they have very soft, finely milled texture–no chunky pigments here, no glitter, no frostiness.

If you want to know more about how products are evaluated, read out Rating System FAQ!

Recommendation: If you’ve been looking for neutral pigments, the new PRO pigments are perfect for that. For those with medium or darker skin tones who have wanted a pigment highlighter, these might work, too.

8 Must-Have MAC (Consumer) Pigments

About the Temptalia Must-Haves Series
A series of posts showcasing must-have products from MAC Cosmetics’ permanent line of products. Selections are based on quality, universality, uniqueness amongst the line, and the like. Limited edition shades are deliberately excluded to make buying easier. Readers’ comments act as a supplement to these lists of their favorites and must-haves. You can find the entire series here.

Old Gold pigment is a stunning combination of yellowed green and green-gold mixed together. It’s an interesting mix of green and gold with a little bit of brown. This is a particularly good pigment for those with warmer tones in their skin.

Teal pigment is exactly as it is named — teal. It’s pigmented, smooth, and looks rich on eyes.

Golden Lemon pigment is a bright pop of yellow gold with lots of frost in its finish. It’s not necessarily a product for those who don’t love shimmer/frost in their eye products, but it is one of the best bases to use for gold, orange, and red eyeshadows.

Golden Olive pigment is a gorgeous soft, olive green. It’s smooth in texture, rich in color pay off, and feels soft. If you wear green eyeshdaow often, tihs is an absolute must.

See four more must-have pigments!

Melon pigment is a sunny, peachy-pink combination that can be worn alone, as a base, or to highlight.

Pink Opal pigment is perfect for highlighting and accenting the face, lips, or eyes. It’s one of the most versatile pigment shades, and definitely a favorite of mine.

Violet pigment is a beautiful shade of rich, medium-to-dark purple. It’s not too cool, not too warm–almost neutral–so it is great for all skin tones. Like the other pigments on this list, the product is pigmented and smooth to the touch.]

Vanilla or Naked pigments are superb highlighter/neutral shades to have in your pigment collection. Vanilla tends to work better on cooler skin tones, while Naked works on all skin tones, but it can lean just a touch warm.

Note: This list only considers consumer pigments, so it does not include PRO-only pigments. (There is a separate list for PRO-only pigments.)
