Green-Teal Eyeliners: Your Guide

Surprisingly, not a lot of real dupes here – a couple that are similar, but the finishes tended to separate one from another. Also interesting? How much MAC dominates the green-ish teal eyeliners that I own!

1. Urban Decay Covet is a green-based teal with a soft sheen. MAC Blue Noon is a touch lighter.
2. MAC Undercurrent is a darkened, green-teal with gold shimmer.
3. MAC Minted is a darkened teal with a green tinge.
4. MAC Mystery is a blackened teal with a black-brown base.
5. Make Up For Ever #20L is a green-teal with a barely-there sheen.
6. MAC Jade Way is a darkened green with a hint of teal.
7. Urban Decay Junkie is a Green-Teal with a green-gold shimmer. It’s much bluer in comparison to MAC Undercurrent. (LE)
8. MAC Blue Noon is a medium teal with a hint of blue. It is lighter than MAC Minted. (LE)
9. MAC Float on By is a bluish-teal with a strong sheen. (LE)
10. MAC Practice Makes Perfect is a dark blue-based teal. (LE)

Power That Builds

MAC Glamour Daze Kohl Powers ($16.50 for 0.04 oz.) are available in four shades: Feline (intense black with black pearl), Mystery (intense black with green pearl), Orpheus (intense black with gold pearl), and Raven (intense black with red pearl).

Feline has been reviewed previously here. As of the last one I purchased (back in 2010), it was still a lovely rich, intensely pigmented black eyeliner with a smooth, creamy texture that stayed put.

I purchased the recently released versions of the other three eyeliners, even though all of them are repromotes. The colors are all exactly the same, but the texture seemed a little drier with the new versions. Not a lot drier, just somewhat, and they’re not as creamy as Feline (so if you hated how creamy Feline was, you may prefer these). It is interesting to see your own evolution, because I remember loving the Kohl Power formula in general (being particularly taken with Feline), but I’m not really into these. They require a lot more building to yield good color payoff. They also have a tendency to look uneven if you don’t, because it’s like the color isn’t actually mixed–it’s black and then pearl, and it mixes as you move the pencil back and forth.

• Mystery is a blackened teal. I couldn’t think of a possible dupe for this one. I imagine you could try to apply a black eyeliner and then apply a brighter teal eyeliner over it to yield something similar.
• Orpheus is a dirty gray-brown with antique gold. MAC Uniform is a bit greener–more olive than brown/gray. MAC Black Line is blacker.
• Raven is a dark burgundy-brown. Urban Decay Rockstar has more purple, less red in it.

Mystery was the least impressive; it was a bit drier than the other two, and it required some pressure and several passes to build up the color. It’s definitely possible, but after being exposed to a number of more impressive formulas, it could use greater intensity in a single go.  The formula remains smudgeable for a few minutes after applying, but set down and on me, they wear good to great.  They make it to eight hours, though with Mystery I could see some had disappeared after eight hours.  Raven and Orpheus lasted a full eight hours.

	The best part of these is the colors themselves, which have a sultry, smoky edge to them because they are all black-based with colored pearl to bring out a hint of color. I liked that they're not too dark--you can see that each one is different when applied.

Quick and dirty smoky eye So, I finally get my foundation to match my skin in *natural* light… but then either the foundation or my setting powder reflects light and it doesn’t match in photos! Apparently, my bathroom light is terrible, because so many foundations looked like they were a match, only to look in my car mirror and see a totally different story. Sigh!

HAPPY FRIDAY ALL! Hope it speeds by (well, the work part of it!) so you can play. How’s everyone doing? Any exciting weekend plans? (I’m off to spend the majority of today studying with some fellow MBA students… so exciting. I know you’re jealous!)

You will need the following…

• Eyes: Soft Ochre paint pot (neutral beige base), Electra eyeshadow (bright silver), Smoke and Diamonds eyeshadow (dark silver-gray), Copperplate eyeshadow (matte gray-brown), Pincurl eyeshadow (duochrome gray-pink), Shroom eyeshadow (soft highlighter), Mystery kohl power (teal-black), Plushlash mascara (black)
• Cheeks: Guerlain Shell Illuminating Sun Powder (bronzer), Guerlain Nacre des Mers Pressed Meteorites (sheer shimmer)
• Lips: Tiger Tiger lipstick (orange-y nude), Style Minx lipglass (hot pink)
• Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 214 (smudge brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
• Substitutes: Smoke and Diamonds = Silver Ring; Pincurl = Vex; Mystery = Teal-o; Tiger Tiger = Peachstock; Style Minx = Pink Poodle

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base. On the inner half of the lid, apply Electra eyeshadow using the 239. Apply Smoke & Diamonds eyeshadow to the outer half of the lid. Darken the outer lid using Copperplate eyeshadow using the 239. Darken crease with Copperplate eyeshadow using the 226. Accent inner tear duct with Pincurl eyeshadow using the 226. Sweep Shroom eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Mystery kohl power on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Guerlain Sun Powder using the 129, then highlight with Guerlain Nacre des Mers Meteorites with the 188. Apply Tiger Tiger lipstick to lips, and then top with Style Minx lipglass for color and shine.

• Cheeks: Blooming blush (soft pink)
• Lips: Style It Up lipstick (nude), Cult Fave lipglass (pink)
• Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
• Substitutes: Lark About = Frozen White; Cumulus = Prussian; Femme-fi = Shroom; Mystery = Tealo; Blooming = Well Dressed; Style It Up = Cherish; Cult Fave = Cultured

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Lark About pigment all over the lid as the base with the 249. On the inner lid, apply Vex eyeshadow using the 239. Apply Cumulus to the middle of the lid, overlaying it with Vex. Darken the outer lid using Silver Ring eyeshadow and drag into crease using the 239. Sweep Femme-fi eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Mystery kohl power on lower lash line smudged with Lark About pigment using the 219 brush, and Chanel Exceptionnel mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Blooming blush using the 129. Apply Style It Up lipstick to lips, and then top with Cult Fave lipglass for color and shine.
