Makeup Tutorial: The Setting Sun

Here’s a tutorial for the sunset-ish look I did a couple of days ago!   Happy weekend!!

You will need the following…

• Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (neutral eyeshadow base), MAC Goldmine Eyeshadow (gold), MAC Amber Lights Eyeshadow (copper), MAC Cranberry Eyeshadow (cranberry), MAC Antiqued Eyeshadow (warm dark brown), MAC Orb Eyeshadow (highlighter), Urban Decay Lucky 24/7 Liner (copper), MAC Plushlash Mascara (black)
• Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder (translucent)
• Cheeks: MAC Margin Blush (dirty coral), Dior Amber Diamond SkinShimmer (bronze highlighter)
• Lips: MAC Funbathing Lipstick (berry), MAC Easy Lounger Lipglass (soft pink)
• Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 217 (fluffy angled brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
• Substitutes: Funbathing = O; Easy Lounger = Prr

Summer Makeup: The Setting Sun

If you’ve been a long-time reader, you’ve probably gotten the hint that I love me some sunset-ish colors and looks. I can’t help it! I gravitate towards them. Golds got a hold on me!  I think I’m going to do a green look next.  Like totally freakin’ green.  I try to give greens a rest, since I also have a thing for green, but I think I am due for something green.

You will need the following…

• Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (neutral eyeshadow base), MAC Goldmine Eyeshadow (gold), MAC Amber Lights Eyeshadow (copper), MAC Cranberry Eyeshadow (cranberry), MAC Antiqued Eyeshadow (warm dark brown), MAC Orb Eyeshadow (highlighter), Urban Decay Lucky 24/7 Liner (copper), MAC Plushlash Mascara (black)
• Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder (translucent)
• Cheeks: MAC Margin Blush (dirty coral), Dior Amber Diamond SkinShimmer (bronze highlighter)
• Lips: MAC Funbathing Lipstick (berry), MAC Easy Lounger Lipglass (soft pink)
• Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 217 (fluffy angled brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
• Substitutes: Funbathing = O; Easy Lounger = Prr

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply Goldmine eyeshadow on the entire lid. Lightly blend Cranberry eyeshadow on the inner crease with the 217. Next, apply Amber Lights eyeshadow on the outer third of the lid with the 239. Define the crease with Antiqued eyeshadow and the 226. Blend Orb eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Lucky liner on the lower lash line and then pat Goldmine eyeshadow beneath. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.

For cheeks, apply Margin blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116, then lightly pat Amber Diamond skinshimmer on the cheekbones to highlight.

For lips, apply Funbathing lipstick first, and then layer Easy Lounger lipglass for a complementing lip.

This was a very quick, ten-minute look I created using MAC’s Devil May Dare Eyeshadow Palette, which was one of their holiday palettes.

You will need the following…

• Eyes: Soft Ochre paint pot (neutral beige base), Gold Tease eyeshadow (softened gold), Prankster eyeshadow (greenish antique gold), Sorcery eyeshadow (dark reddish brown), Brun eyeshadow (matte dark brown), Oh My Darling eyeshadow (soft beige-white highlighter), Smashbox Love Pencil (copper-brown), Plushlash mascara (black)
• Face: Kiehl’s Tinted Moisturizer
• Cheeks: MAC Margin blush, Dior Amber Diamond Skin Shimmer (bronzy highlighter)
• Lips: Chanel Imperiale Rouge Allure Laque
• Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 214 (smudge brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
• Substitutes: Gold Tease = Goldmine; Prankster = Patina; Sorcery = Embark; Oh My Darling = Shroom

Directions: Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249.
On the inner lid, pack Gold Tease eyeshadow on using the 239. Apply Prankster eyeshadow to the middle and outer portions of the lid. Darken crease with Sorcery eyeshadow using the 226, then deepen with Brun eyeshadow with the 219. Sweep Oh My Darling eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Smashbox Love Pencil on lower lash line, then lightly apply Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with MAC Margin blush using the 129, then highlight with Dior Amber Diamond Skin Shimmer with the 188. Apply Chanel Imperiale Rouge Allure Laque to lips for color and shine.

This is my incredibly easy and super fast natural/neutral eye. No matter what the occasion is, this eye is always appropriate, which makes it really useful to have in my back pocket. (Particularly useful on days when I can’t come up with anything else!)

You will need the following…

• Eyes: Soft Ochre paint pot (neutral beige base), Ricepaper eyeshadow (neutral beige), Soft Brown eyeshadow (soft medium brown), Wedge eyeshadow (medium dark brown), Urban Decay Lucky 24/7 Liner (copper), Plushlash mascara (black)
• Cheeks: Margin blush (dirty pink), Dior Amber Diamond Skin Shimmer (bronzy highlighter)
• Lips: Sweetie lipstick (pink), Sweetie lipglass (pink)
• Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 214 (smudge brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
• Substitutes: Sweetie = Pink Poodle

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249. On the lid, pack Ricepaper eyeshadow on using the 239. Apply Soft Brown eyeshadow to the outer portion of the lid. Darken crease with Wedge eyeshadow using the 226. Sweep Ricepaper eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Urban Decay Lucky Liner on lower lash line. Apply Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Margin blush using the 129, then highlight with Dior Amber Diamond Skin Shimmer with the 165. Apply Sweetie lipstick to lips, and then top with Lychee Luxe lipglass for color and shine.

This was a look I wore last weekend, super, duper simple. I normally wouldn’t have even bothered with colored liner, but I really wanted to try out my Guerlain Lagun Bleu khol, since I haven’t had a chance to yet.

• Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 214 (smudge brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
• Substitutes: Sunsational = Bronzer Shimmer + Tanarama; Gold Rebel = Love Nectar

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Lagun Bleu on lower lash line, and then apply Guerlain Bleu Cerise mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Margin blush using the 129, then highlight with Dior Amber Diamond Skin Shimmer with the 188. Apply Sunsational lipstick to lips, and then top with Gold Rebel lipglass for color and shine.

• Eyes: Soft Ochre paint pot (neutral beige base), Juxt eyeshadow (pastel green), Bottle Green eyeshadow (dark green), Prussian eyeshadow (dark blue), Soft Force eyeshadow (highlighter), Prescriptives Grotto Liner (green), Plushlash mascara (black)
• Cheeks: Margin blush (coral-pink)
• Lips: Brave New Bronze lipstick (pinky nude), Chanel Tangerine Dream (coral)
• Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 214 (smudge brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
• Substitutes: Brave New Bronze = Honeylove

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249. On the lid, pack Juxt eyeshadow on using the 239. Darken crease with Bottle Green eyeshadow using the 226, then deepen with Prussian eyeshadow with the 219. Sweep Soft Force eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Prescriptives Grotto Liner on lower lash line. Apply Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Margin blush using the 129. Apply Brave New Bronze lipstick to lips, and then top with Chanel Tangerine Dream for color and shine.
