Back with more MAC Eyeshadows–almost through the permanent shades I have–and this set features neutrals, including browns as well as beiges.
Honesty is a soft coppered brown with chunky gold and copper glitter. It has a lustre finish. It’s not the chunkiest lustre I’ve come across, but it doesn’t make my list of must-haves. Urban Decay Blaze would be a good alternative.
Patina is grayish-brown (almost taupe) with a pale, golden sheen. It has a frost finish.
Wedge is a warm-toned, medium brown with a matte finish. It is warmer and brown compared to MAC Omega but softer than MAC Cork.
Soba is a yellow-ed brown with a subtle golden sheen and satin finish. It’s yellower than Wedge, and the finishes are different, but they are similar.
Era is a darkened beige with a champagne sheen. It has a satin finish. It is lighter (and shimmery) than Burberry Almond.
Malt is a pinked brown-beige with a matte finish. It’s a bit powdery. Inglot #344 is similar.
All That Glitters is a lightened copper-gold with a veluxe pearl finish. The texture is rather gritty for a veluxe pearl. Urban Decay Blaze is similar.
Bisque is a soft beige with a matte finish. Inglot #390 is similar.
Brule is a soft, warm beige with a satin finish.
Blanc Type is a pale white-beige with a Matte2 finish. Inglot #355 is similar but may turn more peach on some complexions.
Eyeshadows like Honesty and All That Glitters–tend to have chunkier textures with glitter fall out. I will buy a new All That Glitters, even though mine was brand new as of a month ago, since many of you say I have a bad batch, but please give me some time to do so. Shades like Bisque, Brule, and Blanc Type are very light, and I know that on me Blanc Type photographs ashy (on me) when I’ve used it as a highlighter. Patina is a fun shade, because it’s almost like a neutral duochrome, and I couldn’t think of a real dupe for it.
Two shades brought down the overall grade of an otherwise average to good set of eyeshadows. They're good--not the best on the market--but reliable and easy to work with (excepting Honesty and All That Glitters).

So here’s a tip about using all matte eyeshadows (or matte products in general): make sure you’re exfoliated and well-moisturized. My eyelids were a touch dry on the inner lid, and the mattes really enhanced that dryness. The same thing is true if you have drier skin and opt for a matte finish foundation; it doesn’t always go so well! Winter is being particularly brutal to my skin lately, but I imagine that has more to do with the fact that we’ve seen some below 50 temperatures here in California (hey, WE freeze at 50 degrees here!).
Directions: Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249. On the inner and middle lid, apply Blanc Type eyeshadow on using the 239. Apply Malt eyeshadow to the middle and outer portions of the lid. Darken crease with Wedge eyeshadow using the 226. Sweep Bisque eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Urban Decay Rockstar Liner on lower lash line, and Lancome Plum Tease Gel Artliner on the upper lash line using the 209. Apply Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Petalpoint blush using the 129, then highlight with Dior Rose Diamond Skin Shimmer with the 188. Apply Giorgio Armani #600 Rouge d’Armani lipstick to lips, and then top with Lancome Untamed Plum La Laque Fever for color and shine.
I try to get some all-matte looks in from time to time, because it’s basically “out of the box” for me. I gotta tell you, while I don’t have anything against mattes, I just don’t do them often because I don’t have a lot of mattes! But after doing this look, it made me so sad to see all those wrinkles amplified and screaming at me I’m not sure if it was a one-time thing or not. Time will tell ;P
How was everyone’s weekend? It’s not quite over yet, but what did y’all do for fun?
Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249. On the inner lid, apply Malt eyeshadow using the 239. Apply Soft Brown eyeshadow to the middle of the lid. Darken the outer lid using Wedge packed on and drag into crease using the 239. Darken crease with Wedge eyeshadow using the 239. Sweep Bisque underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Urban Decay Honey 24/7 Liner on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Enough Said blush using the 129. Apply Calvin Klein Maven lipgloss for color and shine.
I had so many requests to do a look using the Fafi Eyes #2 quad, so here you go…
I used Rollickin’ paint pot on lid, Good As Gold eyeshadow on inner lid, You’re Fresh eyeshadow on middle of lid, Shimmermoss eyeshadow on outer lid, Prankster eyeshadow on outer crease, Freshwater eyeshadow on outer crease, You’re Fresh eyeshadow above crease, Malt eyeshadow on brow, and You’re Fresh eyeshadow on lower lash line. I wore Hipness blush with Sculpt sculpting powder on cheeks with Daisylight beauty powder to highlight. I had Strawbaby lipstick with Sugar Trance lipglass on my lips.
