MAC Underworld Lipstick

MAC Underworld Lipstick ($14.50 for 0.17 oz.) deepened red-based brown with a glossy, satin finish.  It is similar in look and feel to Media, but it is darker and browner–not quite as wine/burgundy.  It works well as a stain (just blot after applying and add a touch of gloss), if you don’t want to wear it at full power.  Since it’s such a dark shade, I like it paired with a very simple nude eye and eggplant eyeliner.

MAC Media Lipstick

MAC Media Lipstick ($14.50 for 0.10 oz.) is a deep, dark red wine.  This is a shade that also works particularly well as a lip stain–just layer a little on, blot, and then dab a touch of clear gloss on top and voila.   For a satin finish, Media is very… lustre-like.  It has that slicker feel of a lustre finish lipstick, but it also has the look of one.  I do find that Media settles into my lip lines more than I’d like, though.

MAC Odyssey Lipstick

MAC Odyssey Lipstick ($14.50 for 0.10 oz.) is an opaque, berry-wine with a frost finish.  Odyssey is definitely a staple MAC shade for me–it’s perfect for the fall and winter, but it’s not too dark.  It’s a great choice for someone who doesn’t quite want to go ultra dark but still wants something with more depth than a milky pink, too.  It works well on both cool and warm skin tones, and it’s not overly frosty either.   During the holidays, you can add a little gold or red lipgloss to make it more festive.

MAC Rebel Lipstick

MAC Rebel Lipstick ($14.50 for 0.10 oz.) is a deep, fuchsia berry with a glossy finish and very subtle, nearly imperceptible shimmer.  It’s almost opaque (you can just barely see my freckle peeking through), but it applies easily, smoothly, and is a great shade to brighten up your skin tone.  It’s bold without being too dark or vampy–but still not a red, not a fuchsia.

The Summer Season: MAC Hot Gossip Lipstick

MAC Hot Gossip Lipstick ($14.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a soft, semi-sheer medium pink with a subtly cool undertone.  It has white and pink micro-shimmer and a semi-frosty finish.  It has the same vanilla scent as is traditional to MAC lipsticks.  Hot Gossip has a cremesheen finish, which means that it is on the drier side, though I don’t find cremesheens to be drying (but if you have particularly dry lips, wear lip balm first).  The wear is a little below average, in part to the sheerness of the shade, and stands at two to three hours for me.

The Summer Season: MAC Fusion Pink Lipstick

MAC Fusion Pink Lipstick ($14.00 for 0.10 oz.) is truly a retina-burning kind of pinky-red.  I wanted to put some shades on when I was editing this in its original size, because I swear, my eyes were like, “Hey, this is rude!”  This shade is a cross between a vibrant reddish coral and iridescent fuchsia pink.  It’s almost as if the base is this ridiculously bright red-coral with an iridescent fuchsia sheen that further blinds you.  This is most certainly not a shade for those who don’t dive headlong into color!  Heads up, it’s a PRO shade, but anybody can order or shop at PRO stores.
