MAC Dish It Up Lipstick

The collection features six limited edition shades of MAC Lipstick ($14.50 for 0.10 oz.). These shades include: Dish It Up (berry pink), Innocence, Beware! (light yellow pink), Naughty Saute (bright pepto pink), Quick Sizzle (bright pink), Runaway Red (rich red-blue), and Watch Me Simmer (bright pink-orange).
- Dish It Up is a muted, medium-dark fuchsia-plum with semi-opaque color coverage and a natural sheen. It has a lustre finish, so it’s supposed to be semi-sheer and moisturizing. I don’t find the finish to be hydrating; I actually find it a bit drying. The color coverage is actually much more than anticipated based on the finish. MAC Plum Bright is much, much darker and less pink. MAC Hot Gossip is lighter and pinker. MAC Love Forever is brighter, pinker, bluer-based. MAC Something New was the most similar but still pinker and more vibrant.
- Innocence, Beware! is a pink-tinted pale, fleshy beige with subtle pink micro-shimmer and a natural sheen. It has a cremesheen finish and yields mostly opaque color coverage. MAC Naked Bliss is a few shades darker and less pink. Maybelline Born With It is a bit less pink. MAC Hue is less pink-toned.
- Naughty Saute is a vibrant blue-based light-medium pink with a good amount of sheen. It really does resemble Pepto Bismol. It has a cremesheen finish. It has a lot of glide and slip, so it doesn’t always apply evenly around the edges. MAC Viva Glam Gaga is much lighter. MAC All Styled Up is much lighter, less blue-toned. MAC Pink Friday is just as blue-based, but it’s lighter.
- Quick Sizzle is a bright blue-based fuchsia pink with opaque color coverage. It has a matte finish. It’s not one of the dry-type of mattes; it’s creamy and applies evenly without pulling at lips. Make Up For Ever #203 is slightly pinker, less blue-based. MAC Show Orchid is less pink, iridescent. Milani Rose Hip is slightly lighter. NARS Schiap looks about the same. MAC Candy Yum Yum is more magenta, less pink. OCC Pretty Boy is darker. MAC Rare Exotic is darker, pinker. MAC Pink Pigeon is more fuchsia.
- Runaway Red is a medium-dark blue-based red with a subtle fuchsia sheen. It’s mostly opaque on lips, but there is a hint of translucence. It has a satin finish. Make Up For Ever #48 and MAC Dark Side are browner. Guerlain Gwen is closer but not quite as dark. MAC Digna is similar but not as opaque.
- Watch Me Simmer is a vibrant coral that leans just a tinge pink but comes across as a truer coral. It has an amplified finish. MAC Ultra Darling is pinker and less vibrant. Wet ‘n’ Wild Hot Paris Pink is pinker. OCC Trollop is slightly pinker. Make Up For Ever #37 is a bit darker. Chanel Phoenix is a touch darker. Bite Beauty Rose is slightly more orange. MAC Full Speed is very similar. VS Be Mine is pinker.
MAC lipsticks are vanilla-scented and tend to wear three to four hours on me on average. Finishes like lustres tend to disappear within two hours, but I suspect the more opaque Dish It Up should get to around three hours. Matte, satin, and amplified finishes tend to wear four to five hours, and some of the darker and more intense shades, like Quick Sizzle and Runaway Red, tend to last six hours or longer and typically stain the lips a little.
P.S. — If you’re worried about not being able to snag some of the lipsticks, because some have sold out on MAC’s website, the collection is still due to launch at other retailers, like Nordstrom, Macy’s, etc. as well as in-stores.

The two shades that sold out so quickly were the two shades I found most dupeable, so hopefully that's good news for those of you who were disappointed to see them sell so quickly! These are pretty much on target with other MAC lipsticks; no real discrepancies (good or bad).

MAC Flamingo Lipstick
MAC for Iris Apfel: Lipsticks
There are four limited edition (and one permanent) shades of MAC Lipstick ($14.50 for 0.10 oz.) in the Iris Apfel collection: Flamingo (light milky bright coral), Morange (loudmouth orange), Party Parrot (bright red-pink), Pink Pigeon (bright cleanest pink), and Scarlet Ibis (bright orange-red).
MAC lipsticks come in a variety of finishes, so the color payoff, texture, and wear can vary based on the finish alone. In this collection, we have mostly mattes. The matte formula on these is comfortable to wear without being drying; I actually would have pegged them as amplified cremes or satins, because they didn’t cling like some of MAC’s original matte finishes do (think Ruby Woo; none of these are similar in texture). Lustres tend to wear off quickly and dry out my lips, so they’re not my favorite finish. Amplified cremes are really opaque, creamy, and comfortable to wear. Because of the intensity of the pigmentation in these shades (except Flamingo), these will wear longer and have a tendency to stain. I’ve worn Morange for six hours in the past, and I tested out Scarlet Ibis for wear, and it wore for six hours and left a bit of a stain. MAC lipsticks are vanilla-scented but taste-free.

MAC A Perfect Day Lipstick
MAC Naturally: Lipsticks
There are four limited edition shades of MAC Lipstick ($14.50 for 0.10 oz.) in the Naturally collection: A Perfect Day (light neutral pink), Beach Sand (light tan), Pillow Talk (neutral pink), and Sweet Sunrise (light neutral peach-pink).
MAC Lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no taste. On average, I get four hours of wear with them, but it often depends on the finish. Finishes like satins and amplifies tend to have better color coverage and wear for four to six hours, sometimes longer, depending on the hue. Two finishes present here–Cremesheens and Lustres–I find drying, with Lustres being more drying than Cremesheens. Lustres tend to wear off in two to three hours for me, unfortunately, likely due to the additional slip in the finish (which can create some unevenness with ultra pale shades like Sweet Sunrise.

MAC Fervent Lipstick
MAC for Gareth Pugh: Lipsticks
MAC Fervent Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “glossy blackened berry” with a satin finish. Fervent is a slightly red-toned purpled berry with semi-opaque color coverage. It’s lighter and more berry compared to MAC Faultlessly F/W. MAC Smoked Purple is darker, more opaque, and more matte in finish. It’s interesting that they describe the finish as satin but also glossy, because it looks and feels a bit more like a glaze finish. With a color as dark as this, it’s really obvious when it doesn’t apply evenly, and Fervent is a real trickster. It does not apply evenly, disappears into lip lines, and even when you manage to get it just right, the minute your lips touch and pull away, you’re back to square one!
MAC Restrict Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “creamy grayed nude” with a cremesheen finish. It’s a pink-based nude that is very, very pale and light. I find the texture a bit dry, so it’s a little unforgiving on the lips close-up. It’s much lighter and cooler-toned compared to MAC Innocence, Beware!. It’s more like a cooler-toned MAC Fleshpot. MAC Close to Real is similar in lightness but peachier. The color coverage is mostly opaque with a subtle frosted shine. Over time, I have found the cremesheen finishes to be a bit drying.
MAC lipsticks typically last four hours on me, and they’re vanilla-scented but taste-free. These are the same size as a regular MAC lipstick, but they are housed in square black tubes with the signature logo on the top and the label on the bottom.

Neither of them were exceptional. With Fervent, I had issues both applying and maintaining an even layer of color, and it had a tendency to settle into lip lines. Restrict had good color payoff, but the texture was on the drier side (and the lipstick formula is a bit drying for me during wear) so it is more unforgiving.

MAC Double Spin Lipstick
MAC Glitter & Ice Lipsticks
MAC Glitter & Ice Lipsticks ($15.50 for 0.10 oz. each) include six limited edition shades: Double Spin (pale mauve pink), Eloquent Air (sheer white silver), Soft Sable (cool frosted taupe), Such Flare! (true red), What Joy! (deep berry), and Whirls & Twirls (sheer pink with gold pearl). The collection is slated to hit stores on October 27th.
- Double Spin is a pale, milky pink with a subtly pearled finish. It has a cremesheen finish and delivers mostly opaque color. You’ll want to ensure you exfoliate your lips prior to applying this, because it will catch and show every imperfection on the lip. It’s similar to MAC Mlle.
- Eloquent Air is a bright silver shimmered shade. It’s more shimmer than an actual base color (think glitter polish suspended in a clear base). It has a glaze finish. MAC Metal Maven was more opaque and applied more evenly. MAC Bubbles was lighter.
- Soft Sable is a muted, rosy taupe with silver and brown shimmer It has a frost finish. On my lips, it made them darker, browner, and a little mauve with a frosted shimmer finish. It’s more daunting in the tube than worn, because of the semi-sheer color, it will mix and work with your natural lip color.
- Such Flare! is a medium-dark red with mostly opaque color (you can just see the shadowing of my lip freckle peeking through). It has a matte finish, though there is a subtle shine to it–it’s not as matte as Ruby Woo (also darker than Russian Red). It’s very similar to many, many reds with blue undertones.
- What Joy! is a berry-red with subtle micro-shimmer and shine. It has a satin finish with mostly opaque color coverage. It’s not as red as Guerlain Gigolo, but lighter than MAC Endless Drama. It seems like it similar to Hang-Up as well.
- Whirls & Twirls is a pale rose-gold shimmer-sheen. It has a glaze finish, which means it’s rather sheer overall. It gives a lot of shimmer, and this is something that would look really lovely on more pigmented lips–it’ll really play well with the natural redness without trying to cover it.
MAC Lipsticks are vanilla-scented but taste-free. The pigmentation and texture often depend on the actual finish, as it can vary from finish to finish (and there is some variation within finish as well). I find Glazes to have a bit of a dry, thin texture and wear off quickly (two hours), while Cremesheens have a thicker, creamier texture, I do still find that they are drying when worn and last for around four hours. Satin finishes tend to be more opaque with really creamy, saturated color that wears four to six hours easily. Matte finishes tend to be creamy but dry and wear well (four to six hours), though Such Flare! isn’t dry at all.

Three of the six have more drying textures (Glazes and Cremesheens), so they're less comfortable to wear. The Glazes also wear off quickly--as in two hours or so--which is what brought down the average overall. Shades like What Joy! and Such Flare! were comfortable and easy to apply as well as wear well.

MAC Fall Colour Collection
MAC Fall Colour: Lipsticks
MAC Fall Colour Lipsticks ($14.50 for 0.17 fl. oz.) includes eight (yes, eight!) shades: Fleshpot (pale muted pinky beige), Fusion Pink (bright coral), Neon Orange (bright clean orange), Plum Bright (purple), Ruby Woo (vivid bluish-red), Show Orchid (vivid hot pink), Violetta (bright clean violet purple), and X-S (dirty red chestnut). These are part of the MAC Fall Colour Collection, which debuts in North America on September 29th, 2011 and rolls out internationally in October. Plum Bright is the only new and limited edition shade, while X-S used to be permanent, I believe it was discontinued (I have old, old swatches of it but it’s not listed online any more). Ruby Woo is permanent at all MAC locations, and the other shades are permanent at PRO stores.
- Fleshpot is a pale, beige nude with just a hint of pink. It has a satin finish, so it has a creamier feel and appearance with opaque color coverage. This shade is similar to NARS Madere, MAC Supremely Confident, and MAC Happy Hibiscus.
- Fusion Pink is a bright red-coral with a fuchsia sheen. It has an amplified finish, so it is creamier and more opaque but still has a shine. Make Up For Ever #37 is more coral. MAC Insanely It is pinker, as is NARS Funny Face.
- Neon Orange is a bright, medium-dark orange with an amplified finish. It’s creamy and opaque. There are a fair amount of dupes for this shade in the gallery, among them: MAC Good to Go, Clarins Clementine, and MAC Morange.
- Plum Bright is a reddish plum-purple with semi-opaque color coverage and a glossy shine. The information I have lists it as a satin, but it feels like a lustre or glaze (and looks like it, too). It has a lot of slip and less color payoff than a satin and lacks the overall creamy texture. My tube is a sample and doesn’t have final labeling, so I can’t confirm either way. MAC Bust Out is lighter and purpler. It’s less red compared to Thierry Mugler Dream and MAC Riveting Rose.
- Ruby Woo is a blue-based red with a matte finish and nearly opaque color coverage. It’s one of the driest lipsticks I’ve ever used; it’s kind of my benchmark for dry, actually. It does pull and drag a bit, but it wears like a champ (but it’s drying after four or five hours of wear). It is similar to a lot of other blue-based reds.
- Show Orchid is a vibrant fuchsia-pink with fuchsia-purple iridescence. It has mostly opaque color coverage and an amplified finish. NARS Schiap is pinker and doesn’t have the fuchsia sheen.
- Violetta is a reddened violet purple with soft shimmer. It has most opaque color coverage and an amplified finish. I can’t think of a dupe for this shade.
- X-S will be reviewed when I am able to purchase it!
This set of lipsticks includes a lot of my personal favorites. Most of these shades are rich in color, comfortable to wear, and wear on the longer side (because they’re more intense, so they’re more apt to stain, while the finishes are creamier so they cling to lips). MAC lipsticks are vanilla-scented, and I typically get three to six hours of wear from them. With amplified and satin finishes, I tend to get four to five, though shades like Ruby Woo are so dry and matte that they wear closer to six.
For the record, I’d like to state that releasing eight lipsticks in a full color collection this one is borderline ridiculous!
