MAC Silly Lip Pencil
MAC Silly Lip Pencil

MAC Silly Lip Pencil ($15.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “bright pink.” It’s a medium, brightened pink with subtle cool undertones and a totally matte finish. The closest dupe I could think of was MAC Hip ‘n’ Happy, which isn’t as bright and has a much cooler undertone.

I was able to apply this shade with mostly even and opaque color, but it had such a dry, stubborn consistency that it really takes a lot of maneuvering and back-and-forth motions to get full color if you want to fill in the entire lip. It is easier to apply if you’re only looking to line around the edges of the lip. The coloring combined with the extremely matte finish gave it a slightly chalky look. MAC’s Lip Pencils will wear for hours and hours, but they’re drying and rough to wear on their own, so they do a lot better when used underneath your favorite lipstick or gloss.

This might be a nice fill in color for a blue-based pink that you'd like to make warmer without totally making it a warm-toned shade.

MAC Embrace Me Lip Pencil
MAC Embrace Me Lip Pencil

MAC Embrace Me Lip Pencil ($15.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “vivid pinkish fuchsia.” It’s a bold, bright fuchsia pink with a matte finish and blue undertones. I couldn’t think of a dupe for this, but if you have any ideas, I’d love to hear from you!  This shade was also launched twice previously–first in 2011 with Tour de Fabulous and then re-released with MAC for Beth Ditto.

I was able to apply this shade evenly and also with mostly opaque color coverage. The consistency wasn’t as creamy as I would like, so it did still pull and tug at the lips. It requires a lot of back and forth motions to color in the entire lip with it. MAC’s Lip Pencils can wear like iron on me–six hours or longer, no problem–but are very drying when worn alone. I find that I have to wear them underneath a lipstick or gloss to make them tolerable.

MAC's Lip Pencil lacks creaminess, so it can be hard to apply evenly and smoothly (and it can be rough on lips, as it tugs and drags a lot). If you only intend to line the outer edges, then it is a lot less painful to use.

MAC Ablaze Lipstick
MAC Ablaze Lip Pencil

MAC Ablaze Lip Pencil ($15.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “bright apricot.” More like a medium-dark orange with red undertones and a matte finish–can’t say I’ve seen an apricot quite this color before! MAC Temperature Rising is brighter, more orange. MAC Entertain Me is more orange. MAC Lasting Sensation is lighter–the difference is more apparent when worn. MAC What a Blast is more orange. MAC Redd is redder, slightly darker. MAC Throw Me a Line is a bit redder.

It has good color payoff in a single stroke, and it is certainly buildable and yields a fair amount of color. The problem is the texture of the lip pencils is rather dry, so it can be hard to get even, opaque color on the lips. I just find the formula drags and tugs and pulls – I feel like I have to press so hard to deposit the color. I was able to apply this one enough that it looked mostly even, but it definitely took some doing to get it there. My experience with MAC’s Lip Pencils is that they tend to be rather drying when worn alone, but they work better when used underneath another lipstick or gloss to either prolong the wear or add oomph.

MAC Heroine Lip Pencil
MAC Heroine Lip Pencil

MAC Heroine Lip Pencil ($15.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “bright purple.” It’s a magenta purple with a matte finish. I’m not as familiar with lip pencils as I am with other lip products. I don’t have it, but from what I remember, MAC Magenta should be somewhat similar–perhaps a bit purpler, rather than as red as Heroine.  If you know of any potential dupes, feel free to sound off in the comments!

It had excellent color payoff, even in a single pass, and it applied mostly evenly. It was the creamiest of the four pencils released in Fashion Sets, but it’s not my favorite lip pencil formula just because it pulls and drags on the lips. I usually save lip pencils for the end of a swatch session, because they’re rather rough on lips. This was the last shade I swatched from the collection, and it really was creamier than the others. It is a really good match for the lipstick, though, and if I had to say they differed in any way it would be that the pencil pulls redder. MAC’s Lip Pencils wear like iron normally, but they’re uncomfortable and drying over time–underneath a lipstick, I don’t experience these issues, but alone, I can’t wear them without paying for it later.

The formula is easiest to use if you're only lining the outer edge of lips, but if you want to fill them in entirely, it's best used underneath a more opaque lipstick (and preferably, one that is slightly hydrating!).

MAC Luxurious Pink Lip Look Bag
MAC Luxurious Pink Lip Look Bag

Rich, Luxurious Pinks Galore

MAC Luxurious Pink Lip Look Bag ($39.50) contains Lickable (lipstick, bright, clean blue pink), Call Me Gorgeous (Cremesheen Glass, bright fuchsia with gold pearl), and Great Catch (lip pencil, bright cream fuchsia).

The lipstick is 0.10 oz. (full-sized), Cremesheen Glass is 0.09 oz. (full-sized), and the lip pencil is 0.02 oz. (full-sized is 0.05 oz.). The value of the three products is $40.50, and then you also get a vinyl bag with leopard-print and pink satin that peeks through it.

Lickable is a bright blue-based fuchsia pink with mostly opaque color coverage and a natural sheen. This shade has a Cremesheen finish, and it is part of the permanent range. Tom Ford Aphrodisiac is darker, redder. MAC Insanely It is redder. MAC Gulabi is similar. MAC Catharina is lighter. MAC Full Fuchsia is a smidgen redder. Tom Ford Pure Pink is a touch darker.

Call Me Gorgeous is a blue-based, medium magenta pink with gold shimmer. It has semi-opaque color coverage and while it settles slightly into lip lines, it isn’t noticeable at a distance. MAC Full Speed Ahead is more opaque and a little cooler-toned. MAC Sassy Lassy is a lot lighter. MAC True Babe is more blue-based. YSL Pure Hibiscus is similar but has no shimmer.

Great Catch is a dark fuchsia-red with a modern matte finish (barest of sheens, but still, mostly matte).

When layered together, the result is a vibrant, medium-dark fuchsia pink with sparkle and a glossy sheen.  The whole combination wore for seven hours, though the glossy sheen wore off within an hour.  There was a slight stain left behind.  MAC really delivered on a luxurious pink lip look here.

I wish Cremesheens worked better on me!  Lickable lasts six hours on its own, and while I didn’t experience hydration, I didn’t find it particularly drying, which was a nice surprise (I usually find Cremesheens slightly drying!).  It does pull a little at lips when you go to apply the color, but it does eventually apply more fluidly as the temperature of your lips heat it up.  Call Me Gorgeous wore for two hours when I tested it, which is short for wear.  Great Catch wears long and well, but again, it’s not a very comfortable formula on its own as it tends to cling to lips and doesn’t add any moisture.

MAC Luxurious Pink Lip Look Bag Review, Photos, Swatches

A-
MAC really delivered on a luxurious pink lip look here! All three products have good color payoff, and while Cremesheens can be drying on me, Lickable was neither drying nor hydrating. Call Me Gorgeous wears off quickly, which may or may not be a deal-breaker for you.

MAC Lavish Coral Lip Look Bag
MAC Shy Girl Lipstick

Don’t Be Shy, Girl — Lavish Yourself with… Peach

MAC Lavish Coral Lip Look Bag ($39.50) contains Shy Girl (lipstick, creamy neutral coral beige), Kiss Me Softly (Cremesheen Glass, soft peach with gold pearl), and Boldly Bare (lip pencil, dirty red brown).

Shy Girl is a warm peach with very subtle golden shimmer and has a natural sheen. It has a Cremesheen finish, and it is part of the permanent range. MAC Gotta Dash is brighter, lighter. YSL Tender Peach is more opaque and peachier, while YSL Peach Passion is pinker and more opaque. Illamasqua Brink is brighter, more orange. MAC Fashion City is more orange.

Kiss Me Softly is a warm peach-beige with barely-there golden shimmer. On lips, it yields semi-sheer color coverage and does settle into lip lines a bit. I didn’t notice the settling too much from a distance. Chanel Mystery is darker. MAC Persistent Peach is pinker and more opaque. Chanel Genie is more orange. MAC Mimmy is similar. MAC Celestial Kiss is darker orange.

Boldly Bare is a subdued, medium orange-brown with a matte finish. The texture is true-to-form; it’s creamy enough to apply on lips, but it doesn’t smudge or move once you’ve applied it (even initially).

When you layer all three products, you can achieve a light-medium orange peach with a glossy sheen and not much shimmer–it looks very creamy. I would argue that this set is more peach than it is coral. It’s just peach, peach, and more peach (and brown). If you were hoping for a true coral, you might want to check out some of MAC’s permanent products (Crosswires comes to mind).

I, unfortunately, do not have a fully positive experience with the Cremesheen formula–I find them drying and Shy Girl isn’t an exception (I actually reviewed it just this past April). It’s somewhat drying, and while it has the word “Creme” in the name, it does tug and pull at the lips a little. After a few swipes, it’s easier to apply (I think they do better at warmer temperatures). It lasted for just over there hours on me. Kiss Me Softly lasted a measly hour when I tested it, which is consistent with the Cremesheen Glass formula, but it’s still a really quick-to-leave-you gloss. Boldly Bare wears like iron, but it’s not a product that I can wear on its own; it’s a little dry and uncomfortable by itself. When I wore all three together, the combination lasted six hours, though the glossiness had faded after an hour and a half.
