MAC Jeanius: Overall & Recommendations

OVERALL, Jeanius is a very cool-toned collection, and surprisingly, it’s not a total miss for warmer skin tones, though. The inclusion of berries like Indigo Pink lipglass and Riveting Rose lipstick are as wearable on cooler skin tones as they are on warmer ones. The eyeshadows are the major let down here, because of the so-so pigmentation and powdery textures. I think the blushes are the best picks from the launch, though Pink Cult is a great pick for light to medium skin tones (darker skin tones won’t see it show up much on them) while Overdyed works on across all.

Skip WHITE JEANIUS if you have WHITE FROST; they’re very similar.
Skip BIKER BLUE if you have RESCUE BEAUTY UNDER THE STARS; the texture is a bit different but they are similar.

Please note that this section is merely suggesting shades that would complement a particular skin tone better than other shades, but these lists are meant to be rather exhaustive of the entire collection; it’s not reflective of must-haves for your skin tone. When it comes to cooler/warmer skin tones, these are products that lean noticeably cool/warm and therefore complement the corresponding skin tone better (but it does not mean you can’t wear a warmer product if you’re cooler!).

First impressions/swatches for MAC Jeanius! I’m pretty excited that not only is it under 10 minutes, but it is under 8 minutes! For me, it seems like such a mighty feat… of restraint.

MAC Jeanius Lipglasses: Docile, Indigo Pink, Painted On

MAC Jeanius: Lipglasses

MAC Jeanius Lipglasses ($14.50 for 0.17 fl. oz.) come in three shades: Docile (chrome pink peach with gold), Indigo Pink (deep burgundy with blue pearl), and Painted On (grayish beige with gold pearl).

Docile is a semi-sheer, pale, blue-based pink with pink and gold shimmer. This is a repromote from Fabulous Felines. It is similar to Cultured, though a lighter–you could mix in Oyster Girl and get pretty close.
Indigo Pink is a semi-opaque, rich red-berry with magenta shimmer. It seems a little less red than Pop Mode (and a bit more opaque).
Painted On is a semi-sheer beige-tinted gloss with white and gold shimmer. It is similar to Lustrewhite.

my thoughts on the formula: MAC Lipglasses are vanlla-scented, and they are typically thick and sticky. However, because of their tackiness, they do tend to wear better and longer (four hours for me).

final thoughts: The shades coordinate with the lipsticks, but they can easily be layered in any combination, of course. If you like more pigmented glosses, Indigo Pink is one to consider, while if you prefer sheerer shades, both Docile and Painted On fit the bill.

MAC Jeanius Lipsticks: Acid Washed, Pretty Please, Riveting Rose

MAC Jeanius: Lipsticks

MAC Jeanius Lipsticks ($14.50 for 0.10 oz.) come in three shades: Acid Washed (grayish beige with gold pearl), Pretty, Please (pale pink pearl), and Riveting Rose (deep burgundy with blue pearl).

Acid Washed is more shimmer than it is color; the base seems nearly clear to me, while it has pale white and gold-tinged white shimmer, plus a slight pink iridescence. It has a glaze finish. It is similar to Tanarama, just less beige.
Pretty, Please is a frosted pale pink with white shimmer that goes on semi-sheer. It has a lustre finish, and it is part of the permanent range.
Riveting Rose is a rich red-berry with purple and plum frost. It has a frost finish. It’s similar to Hang Up, but it is more berry (less red).

my thoughts on the formula: MAC Lipsticks are vanilla-scented but taste-free. I typically get four hours of wear, but some of the lighter lustre and glaze finishes tend to disappear by hour three. Amplified cremes and amplified finishes, however, tend to go beyond four. I find the formula, overall, comfortable to wear and not drying (but not moisturizing–a couple of the matte shades can be drying).

final thoughts: If you like layering lip products, you may find both Acid Washed and Pretty, Please fun shades to work with. Acid Washed more so than Pretty, Please, have clearer bases and lots of shimmer. They’re both true to their formula (sheer, shimmery), so you can’t fault them for that.

MAC Jeanius: Pink Cult

MAC Pink Cult Blush ($19.50 for 0.21 oz.) is described as a “mid-tone neutral pink” with a matte finish. It’s a soft, neutral rose pink with a matte finish–it’s not cool-toned or warm-toned, but beautifully neutral. It has excellent color pay off, despite the lightness of the shade itself. If you like blushes like Blushbaby, I think you’ll enjoy this one. It’s not a dupe, as this is most definitely pink (and Blushbaby is more nude), but they have similar effects–a soft, subtle color that never looks overdone. To me, it is a softer, pinker version of Breath of Plum.

final thoughts: I think this will be a very flattering blush on light to medium skin tones; with it being a little on the pale side for darker skin tones. The neutral undertones make it wearable for both cool and warm skin tones, too.

MAC Overdyed Blush

MAC Jeanius: Overdyed

MAC Overdyed Blush ($19.50 for 0.21 oz.) is described as a “bright magenta” and has a satin finish. It actually seems more like a muted magenta to me–it’s by no means dull, but it’s not in-your-face magenta, either. There are cool undertones running through it, but it is not as strong of a blue base as some other magenta shades. When I wore it, it looked almost like a plummed magenta on my cheeks. Overdyed as nicely pigmented, easy to blend, and wore all day for me.

final thoughts: This has to be one of the more wearable shades of magenta I’ve seen. For that reason, I think this shade will appeal to a lot of people. The pigmentation makes it suitable for darker skin tones, while the subtle cool undertones make it wearable for warmer skin tones, too!
