Jealousy Wakes with Blue Look

My eyes have been really dry lately, so under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t create a look and post it (just because the surface of my lids makes working with powder products a big pain!), but how could I not do something to commemorate this day?

You will need the following…

• Eyes:  NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (primer), Urban Decay Verve Eyeshadow (soft pewter), MAC Jealousy Wakes Eyeshadow (emerald green), MAC Atlantic Blue Eyeshadow (dark blue), Burberry Trench Eyeshadow (highlighter), Urban Decay Deviant 24/7 Liner (blue), Benefit They’re Real Mascara (black)
• Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Guerlain Les Violettes Mineral Powder (03)
• Cheeks: Benefit Sugarbomb (golden pink)
• Lips: Cle de Peau #2 Lipgloss (peach pink), Guerlain Mambo Terracotta Lipgloss (sheer tangerine)
• Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 222 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pencil brush), 188 (small, circular stippling brush)

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof all over the lid and above the crease with the 249 to lay down your eyeshadow base.   Next, apply Verve eyeshadow on the lower third of the lid with the 239.  Then pat Jealousy Wakes eyeshadow onto the upper half of the lid and into the crease with the 239.  With the 226, apply Atlantic Blue eyeshadow above the crease.  Diffuse the crease edge with Trench eyeshadow using the 217.  Lightly highlight the edge of the brow bone with Verve eyeshadow with the 239.  Next, apply Deviant liner on the lower lash line, and then smudge with Jealousy Wakes. Coat lashes with They’re Real mascara to finish the look.

For cheeks, apply Sugarbomb on the apples of the cheeks and sweep towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply #2 lipgloss mixed with Mambo lipgloss for a complementing lip.

MAC Jealousy Wakes Eyeshadow Comparisons & Swatches (Part 2)

As promised, I did play around with mixing both MAC Teal and MAC Emerald Green pigments to see if it would create something closer. It does — I had the best results when I did Emerald Green as the base color and patted Teal on top–you get a more reflective, metallic-like sheen and the green doesn’t pop as much but it’s close. I also included some more comparisons below.  If you’re trying to dupe the color, it definitely seems like mixing a medium green with a shimmery teal will be your best bet.

• MAC Odalisque is pretty much a different color entirely–very much blue in comparison.
• Sugarpill June Bug has more of a blackened green base with forest green shimmer in comparison.
• MAC Surf USA is much bluer, more of a teal. It’s like it has the color of the teal shimmer/sheen of Jealousy Wakes but it lacks the green.
• MAC Ego is a blackened forest green and looks much darker than Jealousy Wakes.
• Sugarpill Midori is a brighter green–less teal in it–in contrast to Surf USA, this has more of the green base of Jealousy Wakes but not the teal shimmer/sheen.
• MAC Sassy Grass is a rich grass green, but it’s not really like Jealousy Wakes.
• MAC Teal is more of a teal, so it ends up being bluer.

MAC Bloggers’ Obsessions: Jealousy Wakes Comparison Swatches

Now, I have no problems comparing Jealousy Wakes to other products, because it’s the shade I created and it doesn’t bother me to share comparisons with all of you.  Part of me hoped to find something comparable, but the other part wanted to find nothing, just because that was the whole point!

• MAC One-Off is more of a green–it has a stronger yellow undertone, less teal/blue (this shade was limited edition).
• MAC Emerald Green is significantly yellower. This was one of the inspiration pieces for Jealousy Wakes, but I knew I wanted something with less yellow. This is a PRO pigment (and one of my favorites!).
• MAC Gulf Stream is a blue-teal, so it doesn’t end up being comparable–it almost seemed like it would be when I saw it in the pan.  This was limited edition.
• Urban Decay Graffiti is a much lighter, brighter green with a yellow undertone. Would be pretty with Jealousy Wakes!
• MAC Humid is really nothing like it, but I had a few readers ask how close it was.
• MAC Shimmermoss ends up looking so much bluer compared to all the green shades. Again, not at all comparable!

I haven’t tried it, but you may be able to get rather close with MAC Teal and Emerald Green pigments – a little mix of both just might get you there.  I’ll play around with it later on this week to see.

MAC Bloggers’ Obsessions: Eyeshadows Swatches, Photos

Available online only for U.S./Canada on June 21st, here are photos and swatches of the four eyeshadows included in the collection. Each will retail for $14.50 and be available for a limited time. For official information, please check out the launch post. Please understand that I am not going to rate or review this collection, because of my involvement, as I do not think it would be right. I will provide comparison swatches for Jealousy Wakes very soon!

• Jealousy Wakes is an emerald green with teal and gold shimmer. It has a veluxe pearl finish.  This is the shade I created, and if you want to learn more about the creation process, check out this post.
• Parisian Skies is a dusty, medium-dark blue with a subtle sheen. It has a satin finish.
• Hocus Pocus is a dark, brown-tinged gray with green and gold shimmer. It has a satin finish.
• Sparkle Neely, Sparkle is a medium-dark, warm brown with subtle gold sparkle (not quite micro-glitter but larger than shimmer).

Please feel free to discuss similar shades and dupes amongst yourselves, but I would prefer only to provide my color descriptions, photos, and swatches. The Swatch Gallery should help you find possible dupes and allow you to compare on your own for this particular collection  (I know that the eyeshadow section is not fully up, but I do hope it will help.)  I hope you understand.

Green Machine with Jealousy Wakes Look

I received an email this morning that MAC just received the product samples for Jealousy Wakes, so I hope to have them in my hot hands tomorrow.  As soon as I do, you know I’ll be swatching up a storm!

You will need the following…

• Eyes:  NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (primer), MAC Juxt Eyeshadow (soft yellowed green), MAC Jealousy Wakes Eyeshadow (emerald green), MAC Bottle Green Eyeshadow (dark bluish-green), Burberry Trench Eyeshadow (highlighter), Urban Decay Deviant 24/7 Liner (blue), Hourglass Film Noir Mascara (black)
• Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Guerlain Les Violettes Mineral Powder (03)
• Cheeks: theBalm Betty Lou-Manizer (golden bronze)
• Lips: Chanel Liberte Rouge Coco Shine (peach-coral)
• Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 222 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pencil brush), 188 (small, circular stippling brush)

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof all over the lid and above the crease with the 242 to lay down your eyeshadow base.  Apply Juxt eyeshadow on the inner third of the lid with the 239, then pat Jealousy Wakes eyeshadow on the outer two thirds of the lid.  Lightly blend Juxt by patting and lightly pulling the color over the middle of the lid to create a yellower green in the center.  Bring Jealousy Wakes into the crease by pressing the 239 into the crease horizontally, and then darkening the crease with Bottle Green eyeshadow with the 222.  Tap Juxt lightly above the crease to soften the edge, and then highlight beneath the brow with Trench eyeshadow. Next, apply Deviant liner on the lower lash line, and then smudge with Jealousy Wakes on the outer third and Juxt on the inner two-thirds. Coat lashes with Film Noir mascara to finish the look.

For cheeks, apply Betty Lou-Manizer on the apples of the cheeks and sweep towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Liberte Rouge Coco Shine for a complementing lip.

Duochromes + Jealousy Wakes Look

I was just playing around, and I wasn’t sure if I was going to post this, but some reader encouragement helped After seeing several readers mention Vex on yesterday’s post about Bare Escentual’s Urban Nature, I figured I’d try it. And then I just couldn’t help reaching for Jealousy Wakes…  The green tones of Urban Nature brought out the green in the shadow (rather than the slight bluish nature of it) — which is what I wanted, something that is so on the edge of green that it’ll integrate well with other shadows.

You will need the following…

• Eyes:  Bare Escentuals Urban Nature Prime Time Primer Shadow (murky plum, khaki, green), MAC Vex Eyeshadow (grayish purple with green sheen), MAC Jealousy Wakes Eyeshadow (emerald green), MAC Vanilla Eyeshadow (soft white beige), MAC Gilded White Powerpoint Pencil (waterline), Make Up For Ever #20L Aqua Eyes Liner (forest green), Hourglass Film Noir Mascara (black)
• Face: Guerlain Parure Gold Foundation (02), Guerlain Les Violettes Mineral Powder (03)
• Cheeks: Dior Aurora Nude Glow (soft bronze)
• Lips: Cle de Peau #2 Lipgloss (peach)
• Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 222 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pencil brush), 188 (small, circular stippling brush)
• Substitutes:  Jealousy Wakes = Emerald Green (it is the closest I can think of, but it pulls yellow)

For eyes, start by applying Urban Nature all over the lid and above the crease with the 242 to lay down your eyeshadow base.   Lightly press Vex eyeshadow onto the inner half of the lid with the 239.  Then apply Jealousy Wakes eyeshadow on the outer third of the lid and into the crease with the 239.  Blend Vex eyeshadow by pulling lightly towards the outer lid with the 239.  Apply Vanilla eyeshadow on the brow bone to highlight and soften the edge of the crease.  Next, apply Gilded White liner on the lower waterline and #20 liner on the lower lash line, and then smudge with Jealousy Wakes eyeshadow.  Coat lashes with Film Noir mascara to finish the look.

For cheeks, apply Aurora on the apples of the cheeks and sweep towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply #2 lipgloss for a complementing lip.
