MAC Freckletone Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “neutral peach” with a Lustre finish. It’s a warm-toned, muted peach with a little burst of orange. MAC Delectable is more orange and opaque. MAC Fashion City is more opaque and lighter. Cle de Peau Calliope is more beige. The shade is also part of the permanent range.

Freckletone has semi-sheer to semi-opaque color coverage–it has a level of sheerness expected of the Lustre finish, and it enables the natural lip color to come through.  Naturally, the more pigmented your natural lip color, the more of an affect it will have on the resulting color.  This version seemed more opaque than the Freckletone I have from a few years ago, so I don’t know if it’s a result of this being a one-off batch (since it’s embossed) or not.  It has a thin, just slightly wet, consistency that applied without pulling or tugging too much on lips.  It wore for three hours, and it was neither drying nor hydrating–and for me, “not drying” is a step-up, as I find most Lustres slightly drying.

5 Corals for Green Eyed Looks

One of my favorite ways to complement green eyeshadows is with coral/peach lipstick. There is just enough warmth to tie to the greens most commonly used and if you find one soft enough, it will complement and not compete.

1. Bobbi Brown Bare Pink Rich Lip Color — delightfully light coral without too warmth, making it a wearable coral for all skin tones
2. MAC Freckletone Lipstick – a soft peach with a hint of coral, a little sheerness but not too much
3. Chanel Genie Extrait de Gloss — a glossy, semi-opaque peach coral adds color without going overboard
4. Smashbox Splendid Lipstick — a pink-tinged coral with soft white shimmer and a glossy finish
5. Korres #30 Liquid Lipstick — opaque and glossy, this is a soft peach with only a hint of warmth

The Spring Season: Temptalia’s Favorites

After many, many months of swatching and testing, these are my favorites–a whopping eighteen of them! During the Spring Season, we featured cooler nudes (9), cooler pinks (8), soft corals (8), lipglosses (15), warmer nudes (15), and warmer pinks (17) for a total of 72 different lipsticks and lipglosses in varying shades of soft coral, nude, and pink.

Comments & Thoughts

When I picked my favorites, I went through all the different folders I had for Spring Season shades and marked the ones I loved.  At the end, I wound up with eighteen–a little much, but who says there is a limit on favorites?  I do, however, obviously gravitate towards certain shades and tones over others.

• #1 (Benefit I’m With the Band), #3 (Cle de Peau #2), and #17 (NP Set Mauritius Lipgloss) are all in the same family.  #3 is my favorite of this shade family, though.
• I also love the texture of Cle de Peau’s Extra Silky Lipsticks, which necessitated the inclusion of both #4 (Cle de Peau #103) and #5 (Cle de Peau #106).  You’re just lucky I held off on including #124, too!
• Oh, Guerlain! Similarly, Guerlain’s Rouge G lipsticks still have my heart–as evidenced by #6 (Guerlain Garance), #7 (Guerlain Gardenia), #8 (Guerlain Gemma), #9 (Guerlain Georgia), and #10 (Guerlain Guerlinade).  I haven’t found a dupe (nothing even similar enough to bother talking about!) to Garance nor Gardenia, but I feel like Gardenia may be substituted with a peachy nude and satisfy some enough.  Gemma is similar to #12 (Korres #22).  Guerlinade may be duped the best (based on my current lipstick repository) by #14 (MAC Freckletone), but Freckletone is significantly sheerer, glossier, and brighter/peachier–Guerlinade looks more muted in comparison, and obviously creamier and more opaque.
• #8 (Guerlain Gemma) is similar to #9 (Guerlain Georgia) except with that cool gold sheen and a rosier pink base, but #12 (Korres #22) is like a more muted version of #8, too.  #8 is my favorite of the three, but #12 comes close and it’s what, a third of the price?
• #11 (Korres #13) is a lighter, pinker version of #15 (MAC Velvet Teddy).

The Spring Season: Warmer Nudes Lipstick Wrap-up

I’m partial to warmer nudes myself, and I discovered several new favorites through the Spring Season–I hope you did, too!  One reason I love doing end-of-series roundups is because it gives me an opportunity to see if there are good dupes for certain shades.

• For instance, #7 (Guerlain Guerlinade) is a new favorite nude for me, and the closest dupe here is #12 (MAC Freckletone), but it’s not quite there.
• On the other hand, #9 (Korres #34 Nude) and #14 (MAC Touch) have similar coloring but different textures.
• #8 (Julie Hewett Simone) is a pinker, more pigmented version of #2 (Chanel Mythic).  #10 (Lancome Rich Cashmere) seems similar to #11 (MAC Cherish).
• #3 (Cle de Peau #103) seems like a cross between #9 (Korres #34 Nude) and #12 (MAC Freckletone).

Colorful Makeup:  Green, Teal, & Blue

I envisioned a green, teal, and blue combination, and I really went from there for this look. I’m also trying to work on using permanent or recently released products in my looks, so, even though it was unplanned and totally coincidental, this look is very much like the theme of Build-a-Quad: “The Tropics.”

Happy Monday! I usually love Mondays, but it’s my first day back at school since I’ve been on winter break for the past two weeks… sigh. It’s so hard to get back into the swing of things, you know? Boo school!

You will need the following…

• Eyes: MAC Teal Pigment (teal base), MAC Juxt Eyeshadow (soft spring-y green), MAC Shimmermoss Eyeshadow (teal), MAC Freshwater Eyeshadow (blue), MAC Deep Truth Eyeshadow (dark blue), MAC Gorgeous Gold Eyeshadow (green-toned gold), MAC Femme-fi Eyeshadow (neutral highlighter), Urban Decay El Dorado 24/7 Liner (gold), Chanel Exceptionnel Mascara (black)
• Face:  Kiehl’s Tinted Moisturizer (medium)
• Cheeks: Benefit Sugarbomb Powder (peachy-pink)
• Lips: MAC Freckletone Lipstick (peach-toned nude), NARS Orgasm Lipgloss (sheer peachy-pink shimmer)
• Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 217 (fluffy blending brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 214 (smudge brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
• Substitutes: Femme-fi = Shroom

For eyes, start by putting a drop of water-based mixing medium (or water) on your brush, then apply Teal pigment as your eyeshadow base all over the lid with the 249. Using the 239, apply Juxt eyeshadow on the inner third of the eyelid. Next, apply Shimmermoss eyeeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with Freshwater eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. Next, define the crease by applying Deep Truth eyeshadow with the 226. Lightly tap and brush Gorgeous Gold eyeshadow directly above the crease to soften. With the 217, gently apply Gorgeous Gold eyeshadow above the innerlid and towards the brow bone. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Femme-fi eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying El Dorado Liner on the lower lash line and sweeping lashes with Exceptionnel mascara.

For cheeks, apply Sugarbomb to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Freckletone lipstick first, and then layer Orgasm lipgloss for a glossy lip look.
