MAC Smoky Mauve Extra Dimension Eyeshadow

MAC Smoky Mauve Extra Dimension Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “mid-tone cool mauve.” It’s a plummy mauve with a frosted finish. MAC Daylight is lighter. Jasmine Carpet is pinker. Girogio Armani #27 is a touch darker. MAC Universal Appeal has more plum in it. Tarina Tarantino Fantastical #1 is cooler-toned.

Of the six, this was my favorite, because it applied the best–it was so, so smooth and had only a smidgen of dryness. It was soft without being powdery, and it melted against the skin when applied. The dry application is quite pigmented, and the damp application just made the finish slightly more metallic, but they were about the same either way. Smoky Mauve had the best texture, as the product seemed to bind with itself better, which helped to create that smoother finish. It lasted seven hours without fading or creasing (and it’s only designed to last for six).

MAC Triple Impact Extra Dimension Eyeshadow

MAC Triple Impact Extra Dimension Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as an “opalescent lavender with violet pearl.” It’s a cool-toned lavender with a frosted finish and lavender shimmer. MAC Amethyst is warmer and much more sparkly. OCC Datura is very similar in color but has a smoother sheen. MAC Light Voilet is pinker and has larger sparkles.

This shade had sheer color when applied dry, and when applied damp, the color was buildable to semi-opaque payoff–noticeably translucency but a fair amount of color. With enough patting and packing on of the color, mostly opaque color is possible. It had a slightly dry consistency, and I actually felt this shade was not as soft or as blendable as the others–it tended to stick in places, especially when I used it damp. If I applied it dry, then it was more blendable, but it was so sheer that it was hard to get really even color. When I wore Triple Impact, it wore for six hours well, but it was slightly faded after seven hours (but it’s only marketed as six-hour wear).

	I wish this had a softer, more blendable texture, because it's a sheerer shade and really needs to have that blendability. Plus, the iridescent quality makes it a shade you'd be inclined to layer over other products, where you definitely want to be able to blend it in!

MAC Opalesse Extra Dimension Eyeshadow

MAC Opalesse Extra Dimension Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as an “opalescent white with pink pearl.” It’s a pale white with an iridescent pearl shimmer/sheen. MAC Defiance is lighter. I also think MAC Pink Opal is similar but perhaps less metallic. MAC Ready to Party is cooler-toned. MAC Young Venus is pinker, less iridescent.

The texture of this still has that slightly dry feeling that the Extra Dimension finish seems to have (a dryness that’s not really bad, but it is still there), but it applies very smoothly–almost as if it melts against the skin. Applied dry, it has semi-opaque color coverage, and applied damp, it intensifies the color payoff to mostly opaque with a stronger reflective sheen. It blended well on the lid, and it wore for seven hours without creasing or fading (MAC claims six).

	It had good color payoff, a soft, smooth texture, and it wore well (longer than the brand claimed). If you want to amplify the iridescence, try layering it over a black base.

MAC Zestful Extra Dimension Eyeshadow

MAC Zestful Extra Dimension Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “pale iridescent lime.” It’s an iridescent, pastel green with warm, golden-green sheen and a frosted, metallic finish. I don’t have any real dupes for it; Too Faced Fantasy island is warmer, yellower and bareMinerals Wicked is greener, warmer. Zestful has an aqua-ish base color with a warmer, more golden shimmer that gives it complexity.

Applied dry, it went on surprisingly smooth (smoother than other shades), and it had semi-opaque pigmentation. Applied damp, it was more intensely pigmented, and it appeared more metallic and even smoother. It is very reflective when swatched on the skin, but on the lid, it did seem to lighten a bit and the iridescent effect didn’t stand out as much. I think if it was paired with deeper, richer colors, it might pop out more (I just happened to use it alongside shades in this launch, and they all turned rather pastel applied), or it might be nice layered over black. The texture felt softer than a lot of other shades with this formula, though there was still a residual dryness, but it just seemed to bind and hold together better. There was some very slight fading after six hours, but it wasn’t too noticeable.

MAC Extra Silver Extra Dimension Eyeshadow

MAC Extra Silver Extra Dimension Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “true silver.” It’s a bright, metallic silver with neutral to neutral-warm undertones. Benefit Blingo is darker. Maybelline Silver Strike is a touch darker and more metallic. MAC Enlightening is cooler-toned. Tom Ford Emerald Lust is less metallic. MAC Misty is warmer.

I felt that the color payoff was the same both dry and damp, though when applied damp, the finish appeared smoother and more metallic, rather than frosted as it did when applied dry. There was also less fall out during application when one used a damp brush. The payoff is mostly opaque, and the formula pretty much is a buildable one from sheer to greater intensity, so it’s hard to say it isn’t pigmented as it’s supposed to be (so it’ll come down more to what you personally want). The texture is lightly dry–a smidgen powdery–but does apply smoothly, especially when pressed into the skin. I tested this shade yesterday, and it did lightly crease and fade after six hours of wear.

MAC Glamour Daze Extra Dimension Eyeshadows ($19.50 for 0.04 oz.) includes eight shades, and this post highlights four of them: Round Midnight (dark burgundy), Stolen Moment (dark taupe), Stylishly Merry (mid-tone dusty violet), and Tall, Dark, & Handsome (black with pearl).

MAC first launched this formula this past March, which I reviewed here and here. You can also read a more in-depth review regarding the new shades here (this post just has a recap and some tidbits regarding these four shades). The formula feels like a cross between MAC’s regular powder eyeshadows and their Mineralize Eyeshadow formula, because it feels like a powder, but it’s a little dry in a way that’s characteristic of Mineralize Eyeshadows. These bind and adhere better, though, and tend to apply more smoothly. Of these four, Stylishly Merry was less smooth compared to the others, but Round Midnight was extremely smooth. In my testing of five of the eight shades, they wear the six hours MAC claims, but when used dry, they are prone to fading somewhat. When used damp or over a primer, I was able to wear these for eight hours without fading.

Round Midnight is a purple-burgundy with a soft frosted finish. It had excellent pigmentation both dry and wet. It was also exceptionally smooth compared to several of the other shades. MAC Rich Core is a bit lighter, less purple. MAC Deceit is very similar. Make Up For Ever #311 is redder.

Stolen Moment is a plummy taupe with hints of brown and gray and a frosted finish. It had pretty good color payoff when used dry and was totally opaque when used wet. Urban Decay Armor is less plum. MAC Satin Taupe is similar, a little browner. theBalm Come-Hither is darker, grayer.

Stylishly Merry is a fuchsia pink with a frosted finish. It had good pigmentation dry and better payoff when used damp. Urban Decay Noise is pinker. MAC Moon Rose is pinker and darker. Urban Decay Infamous is a bit more purple. Urban Decay Junkshow is more vibrant, less pink. Make Up For Ever #52 is darker, less frosted. MAC Infra-violet is similar, less frosted. Sugarpill 2AM is more purple and matte.

Tall, Dark, & Handsome is a soft gray-black with a soft, frosted finish. It has multi-colored shimmer that’s very fine, so it’s hard to see it on the eye. The color payoff was almost the same both wet and dry, though when used dry, it’s just a little softer. MAC Dark Dare is darker, blacker, less gray. MAC Cinderefella is similar when used dry. Buxom Black Lab is similar but in cream form.

	They're good eyeshadows overall, but it really nags at me the way they decreased quantity and didn't do much in the way of making the price reflect that. Of these four, they were a lot smoother than the previous four.
