Colorful Look with MAC Peacocky

Here is a more colorful look with the new Mega Metal Eyeshadows!

You will need the following…

• Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (neutral eyeshadow base), MAC Dalliance Eyeshadow (pewter gold), MAC Odalisque Eyeshadow (blue-teal), MAC Noir Plum Eyeshadow (purple), Burberry Trench Eyeshadow, Make Up For Ever #12L Aqua Eyes (teal-blue) Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara (black)
• Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Burberry Pressed Powder (03)
• Cheeks: MAC Sur Blush (neutral pink-brown), MAC Gana Blush (champagne beige)
• Lips: MAC So Vain Kissable Lipcolour (pinked coral)
• Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 222 (fluffy crease brush), 263 (angled eyeliner brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
• Substitutes: Dalliance = Urban Decay Maui Wowie; Odalisque = Shimmermoss + Deep Truth; Noir Plum = Grape pigment; Sur = Prism; Gana = Soft & Gentle; So Vain = Vegas Volt (sheered)
  

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply Dalliance eyeshadow all over the lid. Lightly blend Odalisque eyeshadow into the crease and blend into the outer corner with the 222. Next, apply Noir Plum eyeshadow into the lower crease with the 239 (horizontally), lightly blending with Odalisque. Blend Trench eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying #12L eyeliner on the lower lash line and pat Noir Plum eyeshadow on lower lower lash line with a dampened 219 to brighten. Finish by sweeping lashes with Inimitable Intense mascara.

For cheeks, apply Sur blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116, then highlight with Gana blush using the 165.

For lips, apply So Vain lipcolour for a complementing lip.

MAC Peacocky: Mega Metal Eyeshadow Dupes & Comparisons, Part 1

I’ve split the Mega Metal Eyeshadows into two parts for dupes and comparisons, and then I will also do the Kissable Lipcolours (also in two parts) so no post is overwhelming!  It’s always amazing how things are not as easily duped as one would think.  When compared next to each other, the nuances of each shade gets diminished or more noticeable, depending on what else is swatched nearby.  Whether any of these is really dupable depends on how close is close enough for you.

• CENTRE STAGE is richer and warmer than Urban Decay Twice Baked, while it is significantly darker than Urban Decay Smog. It is darker and more of a chocolate brown in comparison to Bronze. Buckwheat looks like a sheer, lighter imitation (not comparable!). Twinks has too much red in it, while Sable looks more taupe in comparison. Urban Decay Darkhorse has a stronger green-tinged gold pull. I think Chocolate Brown pigment would be the closest dupe, but I do not own it to do a swatch comparison.
• DALLIANCE is closest to Urban Decay Maui Wowie, which is still a few shades darker and more golden, while Patina is too brown and Retrospeck is far too golden. Bobbi Brown Pewter is a lot cooler-toned and much darker. Warming Trend is warmer, a little more orange, while Summer Neutral is more of an antique gold. Rye is a darker variation on Summer Neutral, so it doesn’t compare to Dalliance, and neither does Smoke & Diamonds.
• DANDIZETTE is most similar to Urban Decay Goddess, which is slightly purple-toned in comparison. Deep Truth is brighter and bluer, while
  Blue Storm is a less intense version of Deep Truth and Blue Flame is bluer and cooler-toned.
• EGO is closest to Bobbi Brown Bash, but the latter is more of a yellow green. Similarly Humid is a yellower green than Bash, so it’s much yellower than Ego. Oomph looks like a dirty, muddy green mess next to Ego. One-off is a much brighter, cooler green.
• MATING CALL is closest to Lotusland, which is noticeably lighter; similarly Fashion Groupie is slightly darker. Dame’s Desire is a brighter, cooler-toned purple, while Stars ‘n Rockets is a lot pinker.
• NOIR PLUM is most similar to Urban Decay Mayhem which is a little lighter and more iridescent. Marvel has a stronger red undertone, while Violet pigment is much lighter. Grape pigment is more intense, red-toned, and a touch darker.

New Year’s Eve Look with MAC Peacocky

Though I spent New Year’s Eve at home playing with makeup (err, I mean, reviewing Peacocky!), I still felt like I needed to get a little dolled up–at the very least! It was actually the first New Year’s Eve that my boyfriend and I have spent together, just him and I. I wanted something soft but still a little glitzy, and the new Mega Metal Eyeshadows were obviously the way to go–get to test them out, get my glitz!

You will need the following…

Bring everything together by applying Perversion eyeliner on the lower lash line and pat Dalliance eyeshadow on lower lower lash line with a dampened 219 to brighten. Finish by sweeping lashes with Inimitable Intense mascara.

For cheeks, apply Sur blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116, then highlight with Gana blush using the 165.

For lips, apply Scandelicious lipcolour for a complementing lip.

MAC Peacocky: Mega Metal Eyeshadows Review, Photos, Swatches, Part 1

MAC Mega Metal Eyeshadow ($19.50 for 0.11 oz.) are a new long-wearing metallic powder with an intense metallic finish with medium-buildable coverage that is not supposed to fade or crease. This post features these five shades: Centre Stage (frosted chocolate brown), Dalliance (light champagne), Dandizette (navy with silver pearl), Ego (forest green), and Mating Call (dirty frosted violet).

• Centre Stage is a rich, smoldering chocolate brown with soft bronze metallicized shimmer. It reminded me of a cooler-toned Bronze (permanent)–maybe like Chocolate Brown pigment (permanent).
• Dalliance is a pewter gold with a metallic shimmer-sheen. As a pewter fan, it’s one of my favorite shades of the fifteen, but it’s also one of the more unique shades, too. The closest dupe I could think of was Patina (permanent), which may be a little lighter.
• Dandizette is a navy blue with soft silvery-blue micro-shimmer and subtle metallic sheen. It’s similar to Deep Truth (permanent) but seems bluer, along with the many Deep Truth dupes out there, including Star by Night (Starflash ’08).
• Ego is a medium-dark forest green with a soft gold shimmer-sheen. It’s not nearly as black as Oomph (from Mickey Contractor), and it is less green than Humid (permanent).
• Mating Call is a pinked lavender with a silvery-lilac shimmer-sheen. It reminded me of Lotusland (Starflash ’08).  It’s more lilac than Stars ‘n Rockets, though (which is more fuchsia).

Buttery, smooth as silk, blendable beyond belief, and richly pigmented, the new Mega Metal Eyeshadows are easily one of the best new products I’ve seen MAC put out in the past year (if not longer).  The best part about these is the consistency across the fifteen–they all have the same creamy, silky texture and solid pigmentation across the board.  Though the color range is not necessarily the most unique, the formula is fantastic, which makes the quality top notch.  I wouldn’t necessarily run out and buy duplicate shades, but every shade is worth checking out.  I feel like it’s been too long since I’ve said that about a MAC product!

These are over double the size of regular MAC eyeshadows ($14.50 for 0.05 oz.) and are the same size as Cream Colour Bases (in shape/packaging), and the texture is richer, almost thicker in a way, than veluxe pearl finish shadows.  They have some of the intensity and the pearly finish of Starflash shadows, but they stand out on their own, too.

P.S. — I have also used these wet (“foiled”) and have not noticed any wet spot left behind, but it’s only been a few hours–so I’ll get back to you on that!

MAC Peacocky launches on January 6th, 2011 in-stores across North America, January 2011 for international. The approximate launch date for online is January 4th but may not be exact. FINAL THOUGHTS: Slightly subdued, these shades are as wearable for color-fiends and more neutral fans.  There are shades that are sure to appeal to everyone, but the power of these lies in the quality–smooth, buttery textures combined with intense pigmentation, effortless to blend, and cohesive application.
