Spring to Summer Makeup: Pretty in Purple

I ended up layering two eyeshadows in this look, because I felt like Da Bling was really just too pink/dark for the look — I put Digit on top of it to lighten it, and I liked it, but I think you could omit Da Bling and just use Digit instead.  I also had to physically restrain myself from applying a bright fuchsia lipgloss on top of the lip combination, because that’s what I always do.  I’m not sold on the lip combo with this look, but I do like it alone at least.

You will need the following…

• Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (neutral eyeshadow base), MAC Da Bling Eyeshadow (pink), MAC Digit Eyeshadow (pale purple), MAC Stars ‘n Rockets Eyeshadow (fuchsia-purple), Urban Decay Psychedelic Sister Eyeshadow (purple), Urban Decay Lust 24/7 Liner (purple), MAC Pro Lash Mascara (coal black)
• Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder (translucent)
• Cheeks: Illamasqua Nymph Blush (pink)
• Lips: MAC Funbathing Lipstick (berry), MAC Splashing Lipglass (soft pink)
• Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
• Substitutes: Funbathing = O; Splashing = Cultured

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply Da Bling eyeshadow on the inner third of the lid and pull upwards along the inner crease, then overlay with Digit eyeshadow. Lightly blend Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow on the middle of the lid with the 239. Next, apply Psychedelic Sister eyeshadow into the crease with the 226, lightly blending onto the outer lid. Blend Digit eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Ransom eyeliner on the lower lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Pro Lash mascara.

For cheeks, apply Nymph blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Funbathing lipstick first, and then layer Splashing lipglass for a complementing lip.

Valentine’s Day Makeup:  Pinks & Purples

I’m just popping in to share with you this quick pink look I was playing around with this morning before I took a shower.  (Yes, I totally will put on a full face of makeup, only to wash it all off right after!)   Sorry if it’s felt like I’ve been a bit MIA this weekend… really trying to put in the full energy and effort to study for my midterms, which has always been a challenge ever since I’ve really started to get into the blog.  ‘Cause trust me, I’d so much rather be writing or preparing posts for you all than reading about bonds and utility theory!

You will need the following…

• Eyes: MAC Soft Ochre Paint Pot (neutral beige base), MAC Stacked 1! Pigment (light purple), MAC Da Bling Eyeshadow (medium pink), MAC Bruised Plum Eyeshadow (soft gray mauve), MAC Lala Eyeshadow (dark pink), MAC Black Tulip Eyeshadow (dark purple), MAC Femme-fi Eyeshadow (neutral highlighter), Urban Decay Lust 24/7 Liner (purple), MAC Plushlash Mascara (black)
• Face: Korres Tinted Moisturizer (#2)
• Cheeks: MAC Azalea Blossom Blush Ombre (pinky purple)
• Lips: MAC Victorian Lipstick (bright pink with gold sheen), MAC Hush, Hush Rose Lipglass (medium-dark pink)
• Brushes: 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
• Substitutes:  Stacked 1! Pigment = Kitschmas; Bruised Plum = Shale; Lala = Fuchsia Pigment (or Romping eyeshadow, which was LE!); Black Tulip = Nocturnelle

For eyes, start by applying Soft Ochre paint pot as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. With the 239 and water-based mixing medium (or water), apply the light purple pigment all over the lid area. Using the 239, apply Da Bling eyeshadow on the inner third of the eyelid. Next, apply Bruised Plum eyeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with Lala eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. Lightly blend Black Tulip eyeshadow, with the 239, on the outer corner and lid. Lightly tap and brush Da Bling eyeshadow directly above the crease to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Femme-fi eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Lust eyeliner on the lower lash line and sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.

For cheeks, apply Azalea Blossom blush to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Victorian lipstick first, and then layer Hush, Hush Rose lipglass for a complementing lip.

MAC Spring Colour Forecast: Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches

There are eight single eyeshadows that debut in this launch. There are four from part one and four from part two. Additionally, there are two eyeshadow quads being released in parts three and four, respectively, that will be reviewed separately.  My favorites: La La, Very Violet; Hot Hot Hot, Straw Harvest.  What are your favorites?

Spring Colour 1 Forecast — Eyeshadows

• Rosy Outlook is a dusty medium pink with a satin finish. I think there was a shade called Riviera Rose–this reminds me of it, only not as cool-toned, but still has that dusty pink feel.
• Very Violet is a crisp darkened violet-purple with very little sheen, not at all frosty like its frost finish would suggest. I can’t remember MAC doing a purple quite like this in recent history.
• La La is a rich magenta fuchsia with fuchsia shimmer-sheen. It reminds me of Brash & Bold Pigment from Makeup Art Cosmetics last fall, but in eyeshadow form (so more convenient and easier to work with overall). Very nicely pigmented and smooth–and surprisingly not that frosty, despite its frost finish.
• Da Bling is a slightly paled medium pink with a frosty sheen but excellent color pay off in a veluxe pearl finish. This is a permanent eyeshadow, though, so no need to rush to purchase.

Spring Colour 2 Forecast — Eyeshadows

• Nanogold is a semi-sheer pinky beige. This is probably one of the nicest lustre-finish eyeshadows I’ve ever come across. It feels nothing like a lustre! This one has come out previously, though always limited edition.
• Hot Hot Hot is an intensely pigmented orange-based red that looks mostly matte, though it has very subtle shimmer, since it is a satin finish eyeshadow. I don’t think I’ve seen MAC put out a shade like this since being a fan (about five years).
• Straw Harvest is a gorgeous shade of warmed-up peach gold with a lighter gold sheen in a veluxe pearl finish.
• Perky is a satin finish light salmon-y pink with good color pay off. Not quite like anything in the permanent line from what I can see.

5 Must-Have MAC Pink Eyeshadows

Passionate eyeshadow is a matte, bright red-pink. It’s not a true red, and it’s not a hot pink–it’s somewhere in between. It’s not always the easiest color to wear, and I definitely don’t think necessarily *everyone* should have it, but it’s a nice pop of color for anyone who will actually wear it!

Da Bling eyeshadow is a smooth, blendable medium warm-toned pink with gold shimmer. A lot of pinks tend to be cool or neutral, so it’s great to have one with a warm undertone (especially for those who have warmer complexions).

Expensive Pink eyeshadow is a peachy-pink that really makes pink way more wearable than you think. If you’re a little wary of hot pinks, bright pinks, and baby pinks–consider Expensive Pink. It has only a little bit of pink; I’d almost describe it as a dirty pink.

Hush eyeshadow is a sheer, shimmery highlighter with just a hint of pink. Hush makes a great all-over lid color in neutral looks, but it is a great way to highlight the brow bone when you are also wearing pink or purple eyeshadows. The touch of pink helps tie everything together.

Swish eyeshadow is a deeper fuchsia pink, which runs darker and has more dimension than a really bright fuchsia. It runs more fuchsia-purple than straight pink, but it can always be brightened by layering with a bright pink base, too.

4 Must-Have Pink Eyeshadows

Urban Decay Hotpants eyeshadow is a shimmery, medium pink shade that’s easily blendable and looks great with golds and other warm-toned pinks.

NARS Nepal eyeshadow is a shimmery, soft rose-pink with almost a multi-colored shimmer in it. It’s not too bold, and it almost has a bit of subtly to it.

Make Up For Ever Neon Pink #75 eyeshadow is a ridiculous hot fuchsia pink. It’s pretty bright, and it makes the must-have list because it *is* different. It’s rich, pigmented, and smooth. It’s a color that stops traffic, and like MAC Passionate, may not make everyone’s must-buy list.

NARS Fathom eyeshadow is a soft, grayish pink with silver shimmer.

8 Ways to Wear Pink Eyeshadow

Sometimes we all need a little help getting creative when it comes to wearing eyeshadow, so let me share eight ways I’ve come up with to wear Da Bling!

1. Easy Light/Dark. Apply Da Bling eyeshadow all over the lid with the 239 brush. Sweep a dark burgundy purple shade like Shadowy Lady into the crease using a fluffy crease brush a la 222, 224, or 226. Finish by highlighting the area right below the brow with a color with a touch of pink in it, like Hush.

2. Pink Sunsets. Begin by applying Goldmine eyeshadow on the inner third of the eye lid with the 239 brush. Next, layer an orangey-yellow eyeshadow, like Juiced, on the middle third of the lid, slightly overlaying the gold-toned inner eyeshadow. Apply Da Bling eyeshadow on the outer third of the lid, gently sweeping the color into the outermost portion of the crease. Use a fluffy crease to blend the pink shade out. Highlight the brow area with your favorite neutral, highlighting eyeshadow.

3. Shamelessly Dark. Apply Da Bling to the inner third of the eye lid using the 239 brush. Accentuate the outer two-thirds of the eye lid by applying a dark shade, like Carbon, all over the area. Smoke it out by bringing it into the crease with a fluffy crease brush. Highlight the brow bone area.

4. Pink & Purple. Lightly apply Da Bling eyeshadow to the inner half of the lid, lightening it with Hush eyeshadow if necessary. Cover the outer half of the lid with a soft, pastel purple like Beautiful Iris or Digit eyeshadow. Darken the crease with a deeper purple color like Parfait Amour, lightly, with a fluffy crease brush to help diffuse the color. Finish with your choice in highlighters.

5. Reverse Sunset. Apply Da Bling eyeshadow the inner third of the lid using the 239 brush. Cover the middle third of the eye lid with a gold-toned eyeshadow like Goldmine. Brush a warm-brown shade like Bronze into the outer portion of the lid, sweeping the darker shade into the outermost portion of the crease. Finish with a subtle, shimmery highlighter on the brow bone.

6. Gray & Pink. Apply a lightly colored pink shade, like Hush, all over the lid. Gently accent the outer V with Da Bling eyeshadow using the 226 brush to diffuse the color. Use a soft gray color like Print eyeshadow to darken the crease to add more depth. Finish with your choice in highlighter.

7. Shimmery Fuchsia-Pink. Apply Da Bling eyeshadow all over the lid with the 239 brush, and then overlay the shade with a duochrome, shimmer fuchsia-purple shade like Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow. Darken crease with a deep purple-blue, like Contrast eyeshadow, into the crease with a firm crease brush like the 219. Blend lightly for a stark look. Finish with a subtle, semi-matte highlighter.

8. Make Wine. Try applying a frosty white-gold eyeshadow like Nylon all over the lid with the 239 brush. Apply Da Bling eyeshadow to the center of the lid, lightly. Accent the outermost portion of the lid with a cranberry color like Cranberry eyeshadow, then drag the color into the crease. Overlay crease with a touch of Da Bling eyeshadow to bring out the pink tones in the crease color. Finish with your favorite subtly shimmery highlighter.

How do you like to wear Da Bling eyeshadow?

I used Lovely Lily pigment on lid, Hush eyeshadow on inner lid, Da Bling eyeshadow on middle of lid, Passionate eyeshadow on outer lid and crease, Stars ‘N Rockets eyeshadow on outer crease, Hush eyeshadow above crease and on brow and lower lash line, Graphblack technakohl on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. I wore Maidenchant blushcreme (LE) on cheeks with Don’t Be Shy blush (LE). I had Strawberry Blonde lipstick (LE) with Cult Fave lipglass (LE) on my lips.
