While I couldn’t quite appreciate the “genius” of MAC’s Gold Fever Andrew & Andrew videos, I can appreciate their video concept for Cult of Cherry.
Today, WWD had an article about the video concept today, and here’s an excerpt explaining it…
“We began with the idea of a woman who lives in a white world and suddenly she feels it is lacking sensuality and wants to break free from its monotony,” Gager said. “She craves color, dimension and flavor, so she goes to the experts to help make over every aspect of her life from beauty, fashion, interior decorating and cooking.”
The model starts out in a plain white room, wearing white from head to toe. By the end of the video, she’s sporting a cherry-bedecked couture Erin Fetherston frock, living in a brown-and-white designer room put together by Miller and eating a cherry pie baked by Ruggiero. All are featured in the video, which will be shown at select MAC counters and online at maccosmetics.com.
“The whole concept James developed worked perfectly with this look: an edible, pleasurable concept,”said Balbier. “The look embodies a girl who is slightly Goth punk, but with a sophisticated edge. She’s both sweet and shocking at the same time.” — WWD
Took some photos of the products I picked up on Friday! 😉 Above is Lightly Ripe lipstick (gorg!), and then the other photos include three lipglasses (Cult of Cherry, Liqueur, and Rich & Ripe), Spiced Chocolate quad, and Blooming blush (love this!).
OVERALL, Cult of Cherry seems like a launch about the lips, despite having three quads. There are just so many lip products to choose from, I couldn’t keep my eyes off of the choices! Even when I was swatching the quads, I kept looking elsewhere. Personally, the quads don’t get me that excited – I guess they don’t seem as amazing as some of the lip colors do. I love the coppery color in Spiced Chocolate, and Shadowy Lady does nothing for me. Tempting is pretty to look at, but I’m not overly enthused.
First Row: Creme Cerise, O, Lightly Ripe, Russian Red, So Scarlet
Second Row: Rapturous, Kirsch, Bing, Chock-ful
Third Row: Cherry Blossom, Liqueur, Cult of Cherry, Rich & Ripe, Jampacked
As promised, Cult of Cherry swatches bright and early! And just in time – class starts in four minutes, LOL. (Unfortunately, Honolulu’s MAC store (in the airport) did not have the launch in at all.) I didn’t even have time to buy anything this morning – I’ll head back after class to get a few things.
Sharp from MAC’s Cult of CherryTempting quad has defnitely caught some buzz. While I love a good chartreuse color, it does come housed in a quad with two repromotes and one permanent color. I think the quad is cute, and it stands out, but I just don’t see myself reaching for it too often. Even if I did, I expect I would go strictly for the green or else a more neutral look just using the other three colors. So, what do you do when you LOVE the color but already have/don’t want the other colors in the quad?
