5 Cool Green Eyeshadows to Love

Not so keen on warm-toned greens, of which there are plentiful? There are certainly cooler-toned green eyeshadows to choose from, and here are five of my favorites. When you’re hunting for a cool-toned green, look for buzz words like blue-green, green-blue, forest, green-teal, teal-green, and gray-green; stay away from buzz words like gold, grass, olive, and khaki.

MAC Eyeshadow Swatches – Greens

Here are several swatches of MAC eyeshadows from the green family (mostly permanent shades) that are now part of The Swatch Gallery.

Femme Noir is a smoky, dark green with subtle yellow undertones. It has a veluxe finish, and it has been discontinued. It’s actually rather close to MAC Diana Undercover, which was from Wonder Woman.
Flourishing is a khaki green with a matte finish. It has a Matte2 finish, and it has been discontinued.
Greensmoke is a muted, smoky green with a golden sheen. It has a lustre finish, but it’s honestly one of the better lustres I’ve come across–it doesn’t have the sheer, uneven payoff of most lustres nor the issues with fall out.
Sumptuous Olive is an olive green with brown undertones and a golden sheen. It has a veluxe pearl finish. Inglot #433 was the closest dupe I could find, but it’s less green.
Humid is a medium-dark forest green with a subtle golden sheen. It has a frost finish. Inglot #418 pulls deeper and darker–less yellow-based.
Velvet Moss is a mossy green with a near matte finish. It has a veluxe finish. It has been discontinued.
Wondergrass is a bright pop of grass green with a yellow undertone. It was limited edition, and it has a frost finish. Make Up FOr Ever #91 is similar in color but lacks shimmer/sheen.
Swimming is a medium grass green with gold shimmer and subtle gold sheen. It has a lustre finish.
Lucky Green is a bright, darkened chartreuse green with a golden sheen. It has a veluxe pearl finish. It is one of my all-time favorite greens! Make Up For Ever #304 is similar, not quite as deep.
Bitter is a yellowed chartreuse with a velvet finish. This is one of those shades that has never worked well for me. It’s always sheer and difficult to pack on. Inglot #343 is a better version–more pigmented.
Juxt is a spring green with a soft, golden shimmer-sheen. It has a satin finish.
Bottle Green is a dark, blue-based green with a matte finish. It is a PRO shade. It never swatches well, but it applies so smoothly and has excellent color payoff when used on the lid. Le Metier de Beaute Jade is most similar, but it has shimmer.

MAC has certainly done a slew of greens, yeah?  It’s been a long time since I’ve rearranged my eyeshadow palettes, as evidenced by how many discontinued shades I have in my so-called permanent palettes!  It’s a shame, too, because for shades like Flourishing and Velvet Moss, which were beautiful, there are no real comparable shades within MAC’s permanent range.

MAC’s matte eyeshadows have a drier texture, and they often perform better in actual application than merely swatched on the arm.  For instance, Bottle Green looks patchy when swatched, but it’s a shade I reach for regularly because of how smooth and buttery it looks on the lid.  Lucky Green has such a smooth, buttery texture with excellent color payoff, and it is easily one of MAC’s best eyeshadows in terms of quality.

	Most of these shades have good color pay off, and the textures are easy to work with on the eyes. A couple shades were harder to work with (as noted in the post), but overall, these are nice.

Green Machine with Jealousy Wakes Look

I received an email this morning that MAC just received the product samples for Jealousy Wakes, so I hope to have them in my hot hands tomorrow.  As soon as I do, you know I’ll be swatching up a storm!

You will need the following…

• Eyes:  NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (primer), MAC Juxt Eyeshadow (soft yellowed green), MAC Jealousy Wakes Eyeshadow (emerald green), MAC Bottle Green Eyeshadow (dark bluish-green), Burberry Trench Eyeshadow (highlighter), Urban Decay Deviant 24/7 Liner (blue), Hourglass Film Noir Mascara (black)
• Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Guerlain Les Violettes Mineral Powder (03)
• Cheeks: theBalm Betty Lou-Manizer (golden bronze)
• Lips: Chanel Liberte Rouge Coco Shine (peach-coral)
• Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 222 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pencil brush), 188 (small, circular stippling brush)

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof all over the lid and above the crease with the 242 to lay down your eyeshadow base.  Apply Juxt eyeshadow on the inner third of the lid with the 239, then pat Jealousy Wakes eyeshadow on the outer two thirds of the lid.  Lightly blend Juxt by patting and lightly pulling the color over the middle of the lid to create a yellower green in the center.  Bring Jealousy Wakes into the crease by pressing the 239 into the crease horizontally, and then darkening the crease with Bottle Green eyeshadow with the 222.  Tap Juxt lightly above the crease to soften the edge, and then highlight beneath the brow with Trench eyeshadow. Next, apply Deviant liner on the lower lash line, and then smudge with Jealousy Wakes on the outer third and Juxt on the inner two-thirds. Coat lashes with Film Noir mascara to finish the look.

For cheeks, apply Betty Lou-Manizer on the apples of the cheeks and sweep towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Liberte Rouge Coco Shine for a complementing lip.

Look: Going Green with Greengrease

You know I had to dig into the new MAC products… at least to get going… for a look! Happy Monday!

• Face: Korres Tinted Moisturizer (Honey)

• Lips: Chanel Santal Rouge Allure Laque (peachy-coral)
• Brushes: 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
• Substitutes: N/A

For eyes, start by applying Soft Ochre paint pot as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Apply Greengrease greasepaint stick on the outer half of the lid, blending out with the 217. Using the 239, apply Bright Sunshine eyeshadow on the inner third of the eyelid. Next, apply Lucky Green eyeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with Bio Green eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. Lightly blend Atmosphere eyeshadow, with the 239, on the outer corner and lid. Add depth to the crease by applying Bottle Green eyeshadow with the 226 into the outer crease. Lightly tap and brush Bright Sunshine eyeshadow directly above the crease to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Femme-fi eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Black Line eyeliner on the lower lash line and Lucky Green eyeshadow lightly patted below the lower lash line with the 219 brush. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.

For cheeks, apply Sugarbomb blush to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Santal Rouge Allure Laque for a complementing lip.

Pop-up Color with Teal

I was totally going to do a neutral look, but I was wearing a teal shirt… so one thing led to another and I ended up going for subtle color. Is it really only Tuesday? I feel like it should be Friday already! No, seriously…

You will need the following…

• Eyes: MAC Soft Ochre Paint Pot (neutral beige base), MAC Indianwood Paint Pot (dark gold), MAC Nylon Eyeshadow (white-gold), MAC Patina Eyeshadow (antique gold), MAC Bottle Green Eyeshadow (matte blue-green), MAC Satin Taupe Eyeshadow (dark brown), MAC Ricepaper Eyeshadow (neutral highlighter), Make Up For Ever #20L Aqua Eye Liner (forest green), MAC Plushlash Mascara (black)
• Face: Korres Tinted Moisturizer (#2)
• Cheeks: Benefit Sugarbomb (soft beige-pink)
• Lips: Guerlain Gardenia Rouge G Lipstick (pink nude), MAC Gold Dust Lipglass (sheer orange-gold)
• Brushes: 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
• Substitutes: N/A

For eyes, start by applying Soft Ochre paint pot as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Next, apply a secondary base of Indianwood paint pot on the lid only. Using the 239, apply Nylon eyeshadow on the inner third of the eyelid. Next, apply Patina eyeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with Humid eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. Apply Bottle Green eyeshadow into the outer crease with the 226. Lightly tap and brush Nylon eyeshadow directly above the crease to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Ricepaper eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying #20L eyeliner on the lower lash line and sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.

For cheeks, apply Sugarbomb blush to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Gardenia lipstick first, and then layer Gold Dust lipglass for a complementing lip.

Hey, Ma! I did a look! So it’s been a couple of weeks since the Lady Gaga inspired look which totally wreaked havoc on my eyes, but my eyes seem to be recovered now. (They were swollen for a few days, and then they proceeded to just be itchy/red and consequently dry and flaky afterward. You know, generally unpleasant.) I thought I’d try to do something holiday-esque, but maybe not the most typical holiday look (err… at least, my typical holiday look) of golds, cranberries, and red lips.

P.S. – Lashes are looking a little beat-up, because I was testing out a new mascara, wasn’t loving it, tried to layer another mascara over… and yeah, not the best idea. Lesson learned = don’t test new mascara when you’re doing an actual look!

You will need the following…

• Eyes: Soft Ochre paint pot (neutral beige base), Goldmine eyeshadow (true gold), Bio-Green eyeshadow (medium green), Humid eyeshadow (dark green), Bottle Green eyeshadow (dark green-blue), Femme-fi eyeshadow (neutral highlighter), Smashbox Wish Pencil Eyeliner (dark green-blue), Urban Decay Honey 24/7 Liner (gold), too many mascaras (so ignore the lashes, they’re terrible)
• Face: Kiehl’s Tinted Moisturizer in Medium
• Cheeks: Dior Coral Riviera blush (coral-pink), Dior Amber Diamond Skin Shimmer (bronzy highlighter)
• Lips: Guerlain Gems lipstick (coral), Guerlain Perle de Lune lipgloss (pearly beige)
• Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 214 (smudge brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
• Substitutes: Femme-fi = Shroom

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249. On the inner lid, pack Goldmine eyeshadow on using the 239. Apply Bio-Green eyeshadow to the middle and outer portions of the lid. Darken crease with Bottle Green eyeshadow using the 226, then deepen the outer lid with Humid eyeshadow. Sweep Femme-fi eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Urban Decay Honey Liner on lower waterline and Smashbox Wish Pencil Liner on the lower lash line. Apply mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Dior Corial Riviera blush using the 129, then highlight with Dior Amber Diamond Skin Shimmer with the 188. Apply Guerlain Gems lipstick to lips, and then top with Guerlain Perle de Lune lipgloss for color and shine.
