MAC In the Groove Online! (And Alice + Olivia!)

Hey all! It’s 5:30AM PST, but at least now I can fully sleep… LOL. Kept waking up (unintentionally!) every 45 minutes to check.  MAC Cosmetics looks like it has it up now!   Nordstrom has most of it – the MSF page still isn’t updating to reflect all four, just Comfort.  I’ve gotten some reports in that MACPRO also has it up.  Alice + Olivia is also up.

Edited @ 7:30am (PST):   Yes, Stereo Rose is showing as sold out (U.S. site).  Other retailers (Macy’s, Nordstrom, Dillards, Bloomingdale’s) should have separate stock and come online shortly.  If you see one pop up, leave a comment so I can update the most in case I miss it.  Nordstrom still isn’t showing the other MSFs online, and I did a LiveChat with them, but nothing helpful yet.

Edited @ 8:51pm (PST): I ordered at 6:49am (PST) and my Stereo Rose is on backorder, and while the representative said that since it sold out so fast, they are “trying to get more,” I will remain skeptical.  Sadface, since it means I might not have a Stereo Rose to swatch and review for you all.  I put one on hold at my local MAC on Saturday, called tonight, and they couldn’t locate it.   I put another one on hold, but we will have to wait and see if it’s there on Thursday.

P.S. – Stereo Rose and Comfort are *most* flattering for warm skin tones; Petticoat and By Candlelight for cool skin tones — BUT BUT BUT — all four work well on most skin tones in general. Petticoat and By Candlelight are definitely universally flattering, Comfort may turn orange on some, and Stereo Rose is typically flattering on most.

My haul? 1 of everything from In the Groove, plus a couple doubles, so I can photograph, swatch, and review everything!  Anything that’s a duplicate was bought to giveaway.  Yes, expect giveaways! Don’t even ask how much that cost.  You can add it up.  I’m pretending like I didn’t see the totals… Yes, totals.

MAC Alice + Olivia Collection: Nail Lacquers

Alice + Olivia included three new and limited edition nail lacquers.  I wanted to fall in love with these, but I just wasn’t blown away. Morning.After. was my favorite of the three, because of the way it seems to take on a different tone depending on the lighting, but it’s not as opaque as I’d like. Military reminds me of every other black + silver matte polish out there–I guess I’m just over that shade!

Nail Lacquer ($12.00 U.S. / $14.50 CDN)

• So Rich So Pretty is a fuchsia-purple with red undertones and red and purple microshimmer. I found it needed three coats to be opaque, and the formula was on the thinner side (though it didn’t feel runny).
• Military is a light black with silver sparkles and a matte finish. It’s like a blacker version of Studded. It dries really fast, as many mattes do, and it was incredibly pigmented–you could almost get away with just one coat.
• Morning.After. is a pain in the butt to photograph, because it looks bluer in natural light and tealer in more direct light. It’s more of a dusty blue-teal with heavier blue tones than green/teal tones. There is a little bit of visible nail even with three coats, though.

MAC Alice + Olivia Collection: Pigments

Pigment fiends–I don’t know if I’d pass on these new shades from Alice + Olivia. They have excellent textures, and both Partylicious and Later are beautiful.  If It Sparkles would be the only one I’d think about skipping, since it’s less unique.

Pigment ($19.50 U.S. / $23.50 CDN)

• Later. needs moisture to look amazing.  Do not just swatch it dry and forget about it, because you’re really not giving it a chance then.  When applied wet, it’s a blackened-gray base with flashes of violet and deep blue-purple shimmer and sheen.  About a million times prettier wet than dry.
• If It Sparkles… is an iridescent icy pink with a frosty finish.  It reminded me of a smoother–but frostier–version of Pink Opal, actually.
• Partylicious is an aqua-teal with flashes of pearly green and green-teal.  This is ridiculously lovely.  If you’re even remotely a fan of aqua/teal, this is a total must-have.  Like don’t let this one pass you by!  It almost feels like a duochrome.  At first, I thought it was similar to Parrot–except it’s greener, lighter, and tealer.  It’s not nearly as blue as Parrot.  It is GORGEOUS!

MAC Alice + Olivia Collection: Dazzleglass Creme

Three new and limited edition dazzleglass cremes launch on July 8th with the Alice + Olivia collection.  My favorite was If It’s Pink, just because it’s the most wearable on its own, but it would lovely over pinks, corals, and nudes.  I.Want.Candy. is fun, but it’ll take some playing around to find the right combos to use it with.  I would also say that it is a lot more colored than Springbean, which is also a chartreuse-y shade.  Sparklicious is another shade that’s better layered than alone (but more wearable on its own than I.Want.Candy.)

Dazzleglass Creme ($18.00 U.S. / $21.50 CDN)

• I.Want.Candy. is a semi-sheer yellowed chartreuse green with green-gold shimmer. It does, actually, impart significant color, given both that it’s green (even though a brand may put an unusual shade out, they often mute it) and a gloss. I don’t find it particularly wearable alone, but perhaps over pinks or corals. Because of the yellowness in the shade, it will pull the yellow tones in your teeth.
• Sparklicious is a sheer silver and pink shimmered shade. It almost has a milky white-pink base, but it’s hardly noticeable. It’s super sparkly, so it lives up to its name. It kind of reminded me of She Loves Candy Lipglass from Hello Kitty.
• If It’s Pink… is a semi-sheer brightened fuchsia pink with softer pink shimmer. It delivers plenty of color without being full-on color.

If Alice fell down the rabbit hole and met a Makeup Artist instead of the Mad Hatter, M·A·C alice + olivia is the curiously gorgeous collection she’d be rocking! Hip, playful, unpretentious and unabashedly fun, M·A·C is thrilled to announce the latest collaboration with the most adorably fabulous fashionista we know, designer Stacey Bendet of cult-fave line, alice + olivia. Celebrities, socials and all-around cool girls from coast to coast are obsessed with a + o’s uptown-meets-downtown aesthetic and colourful, playful vibe, so the inspiration for the makeup collection was a cinch!

“It’s all in the details…and what stands out,” says Jennifer Balbier, Senior Vice President M·A·C Global Product Development. “Just like Stacey, where every detail is important, so are the punctuated colours of this collection…current, cool and a must for fashion this season. Pearls and pigments mixed exclusively for alice + olivia.”

Three mouth-wateringly delicious new shades of Dazzleglass Creme, three absolutely shimmering, colour-saturated Pigments, and Nail Lacquer in three “it” shades were made to totally compliment any party frock. Sooo alice + olivia. Now get out there and play!

“I can happily say that the collection embodies the very spirit of alice + olivia; effervescent, happy and fun!” says M·A·C Director of Makeup Artistry Gregory Arlt, who personally road tested the exclusive collection and has oodles of tips for playing with these vibrant shades.

Gregory Arlt shares two tips…

• “Sweep Partylicious Pigment over your lids with a #252 brush. Add loads of M·A·C Fibre Rich mascara for eyes that truly sizzle in the summer!”
• “Transform your matte red lip by applying I.Want.Candy Dazzleglass Creme on top. It will literally change into a chic orange red with shine and luster.”

Q&A with Stacey Bendet

Q: alice + olivia started out being known for its awesome pants. How does a girl evolve from bell-bottoms o getting involved with the ultimate topper, makeup?
A: Well, to me it’s all about colour, whether it’s a crazy pair of striped bell-bottoms or the perfect purple nail olish. It’s about a girl having a great time when she dresses up; and who dresses up without makeup?

Q: As a line, a+o is known for its playful, fun use of colour and textures. How does this translate in terms f your new collection with M·A·C?
A: We wanted the makeup to be fun and playful; for me clothing and cosmetics should be whimsical, they should both make you smile and feel flirtatious. With that in mind, I wanted our packaging and our colours o be like candy. Everyone loves candy.

Q: You’re known to rock some pretty megacosmetics yourself. Can you describe your ultimate beauty look?
A: I am known for wearing really dark, defined eye makeup, bright fun nail polish and pale glossy lip gloss; t was kind of amazing getting to translate my signature look into a M·A·C collection!

Q: Who is your beauty icon?
A: My daughter Eloise. I mean, she wakes up and looks perfect. She even looks perfect with peanut butter nd jelly smeared across her face and strawberry smoothie in her hair. I am so jealous.

Q: What’s always in your makeup bag?
A: I always have a little bit of body glitter, a black M·A·C Liquidlast Liner and some sort of cream blush. nd my secret for a dewy look is a touch of organic body oil on the cheeks.

Q: How is designing a colour cosmetics collection different (or similar) compared to designing clothes?
A: Designing clothes is more stream of consciousness. When we’re working on a season, it’s months and months of designing pieces and then creating a story out of them. With cosmetics, it was more like saying to M·A·C Product Development, “Here is our story, now what products and colours work into that?” They really brought it to life. But I think both clothing and makeup are very much about colour and exture and what each piece and product represents for the woman.

Q: Any products in the line that you’re hopelessly obsessed with?
A: All of them, obviously! (Especially the nail polishes!)
