Julie Hewett Simone Sheer Lipstick ($20.00) is a soft, lightly frosted shade of pinky-coral. This is a shade that’s definitely a YMMV (your mileage may vary) kind of shade, because even though it looks and swatches with a coral tint, on my lips, it turns rather pink. When applied, Simone brightens up my lips to a soft, petal pink shade with decent coverage, even though it’s supposed to be a sheer shade. I liked the way it turned out, but the way it looks on your lips may be different since we all have different pigmentation, and this one definitely pulled pink on me! The formula itself is semi-sheer, creamy enough to apply with ease, and a slight glossy sheen (almost a frost sheen, in my eyes). I get a good four or so hours of wear with the sheer lipsticks in Julie Hewett’s line.

($45.00) is pretty much my biggest reason for wishing summer was a little closer right now! I originally expected to include this as part of the Spring Season, but obviously, it doesn’t fit that theme. It’s such a beautiful shade of bright pink with just a hint of coral with a golden sheen. It gives lips full-coverage, opaque color and a glossy sheen. Rouge Gs are always moisturizing and tend to look and feel really good on lips. (It is definitely one of the best formulas I’ve tried, though very pricey!) This is just one of those shades that I fell in love with as soon as I applied it to my lips. I was like, “OHH, PRETTY!” I can’t think of any great dupes at the moment — everything is too pink and doesn’t have the same hint of coral or golden sheen as this does — but I’d love to hear from others if they know of dupes!

($22.00) is a beautiful shade of creamy, no-shimmered rosy pink. It has a glistening sheen that makes lips look a little fuller and more pout-y. It applies easily and goes opaque in about two layers. It’s a very natural, soft shade of pink, so it’s suitable for everyday wear or to complement a darker eyeshadow look. I like the way it hugs lips and looks subtle but still way better than my natural lip! I get decent wear (about four hours) with this shade, and it’s moisturizing without being thick. It smells very sweet, maybe a creme brulee or caramel kind of scent.

Dolce & Gabbana Velvet Classic Cream Lipstick (#130) ($27.00) is a beautiful soft pinky-rose. It has a semi-sheer look that looks very natural on lips. Even though it’s not opaque, it’s one of those “You don’t know I’m wearing lipstick” kind of shades. It’s just a very subtle hue and the color clings and never looks heavy. It is, though, surprisingly not as pigmented as several of the other Classic Cream shades I’ve tried, unfortunately. I like the way the results regardless, but I just thought I’d note that quality.

The Spring Season: Chanel Pin-up Glossimer
Chanel Pin-up Glossimer ($27.00) sheer, light peach champagne with just a smidgen of pink in it with pale gold and champagne micro-shimmer. Glossimers are thin in texture, smooth in shimmer, and non-sticky in feel. On my lips, the golden tones of this gloss really pop, but I really love wearing this for an extra kick over any lipstick.
I used to not *get* the hype over glossimers, for two reasons: 1) why would anyone pay $27 for a gloss? (OK, totally over that, as I always say, once you pay $50 for a gloss… there’s no going back!) and 2) it just looks like a gloss! Now, it does and doesn’t look like any ol’ gloss. It’s a very, very good gloss, but to really fall in love, you have to see it glittering and shimmering like the ocean in the sunlight. That’s really where I had my “I get it!” moment with these. I don’t care if a gloss is sticky or not, so that wasn’t a selling point for me, but I know it is for others.
Most of glossimers do run sheer, and this one is no exception, but that is one of the reasons I love it over other products. It enhances without detracting from the base color (usually a lipstick in my case). I wore it most recently in a Valentine’s Day Look.

MAC Lip Gelees: Lush & Bright, Preppy, Shift to Pink, Resort Life

Last but not least… the lip gelees aka the best part of the collection, IMO! Okay, let me condition that: if you like shimmer/glitter, check out the lip gelees. If you don’t, you won’t like them. Sorry, these are DAZZLING. And more dazzling than Dazzleglass, too… Also, please note that, like dazzleglasses, these lip gelees do look prettier and more shimmer-tastic in real life. It’s hard to pick up on the multi-reflective, shimmering water feel and look of these in a photograph.
Oh, and by the way? These come with a whopping 0.5 oz. of product. That’s over three times as much product as lipglass. That’s nearly ten times the amount of product in a dazzleglass. Lip Gelees are one of the most affordable lipglosses by the ounce — $28 per ounce.
Lip Gelee ($14.00 U.S. / $16.50 CDN)
- Resort Life is a gilded beige base with silver-ish shimmer. This is the “lightest” of the four, but it has lots of sparkle on the lips. It warms up the natural lip color a bit while adding lots of shimmer (and not much color).
- Shift to Pink is a lilac-y pink with a soft pinky pearl base and lots of brighter lilac and pink shimmer. The lilac/purple is much more noticeable on lips than I anticipated, too. I think it definitely gave my lips a decent amount of color and shimmer when applied. I found this one didn’t apply as evenly as the other three, but with some smooshing, it looks fine from afar.
- Preppy is a semi-sheer, medium fuchsia-pink pearl base with lots of fuchsia shimmer. This is a really pigmented one, actually. It really added plenty of pink to my lips without actually being super hot, fuchsia pink — it’s a very pretty, slightly brightened medium pink with lots of pink and fuchsia shimmer.
- Lush & Bright is a semi-sheer, coral-orange with pink and gold shimmer. This one is the least “frosty” or shimmery, but it still has a nice level of shimmer. This gave my lips a nice peachy-coral look — I’d say this one didn’t go on as a true-to-swatch as the others did, because it’s much lighter on my lips than the skin swatch.
