Quick Review: Le Metier de Beaute Urban Dweller Nail Lacquer

Le Metier de Beaute Urban Dweller Nail Lacquer ($10.00 for 0.14 fl. oz.) is described as a “rich chocolate plum with golden effervescence.” It’s a dark, reddened chocolate brown with copper and teal micro-shimmer. Urban Decay Barlust is very similar, just not quite as red-toned.

This was nearly opaque in one coat, but I’d still recommend two for full opacity.  It had a very nice consistency that allowed the polish to apply fluidly without streaking, bubbling, or pooling along the sides. Le Metier de Beaute, generally, has a lovely formula and interesting shades.  Now, they have full-sized bottles, but in the past, they released small bottles.  These smaller bottles can make for a more challenging application if you have longer fingers or larger hands, since the caps are so small.  It contains just over a fourth of a full-sized polish (average size of full-sized polish is 0.50 fl. oz.) but is priced at $10, which is more palatable than say Dior or Chanel’s $20+ price tags (and you get around 0.34 to 0.40 fl. oz. with those).  I typically get a week of wear out of the brand’s formula with no chipping and very minor tip wear.

Quick Review: Le Metier de Beaute Silk Road Nail Lacquer

Le Metier de Beaute Silk Road Nail Lacquer ($10.00 for 0.14 fl. oz.) is described as a “metallic, bronzed copper.” It’s a rich, darkened copper with coppery-orange shimmer and a metallic finish. When I quickly looked for a good dupe, I came up empty-handed, because the majority of copper shades I’ve reviewed in the past are brighter, less brown-based.

Silk Road is fully opaque after two coats, and the consistency was naturally thin but not watery.  This one had threads of metallic shimmer that ran through it, which look a bit like brush strokes under brighter light (like flash), but they’re very subtle and barely-there.  For a metallic finish? particularly minimal visible brush strokes.  Le Metier de Beaute, generally, has a lovely formula and interesting shades.  Now, they have full-sized bottles, but in the past, they released small bottles.  These smaller bottles can make for a more challenging application if you have longer fingers or larger hands, since the caps are so small.  It contains just over a fourth of a full-sized polish (average size of full-sized polish is 0.50 fl. oz.) but is priced at $10, which is more palatable than say Dior or Chanel’s $20+ price tags (and you get around 0.34 to 0.40 fl. oz. with those).  I typically get a week of wear out of the brand’s formula with no chipping and very minor tip wear.

Le Metier de Beaute Dynasty Nail Lacquer ($10.00 for 0.14 fl. oz.) is described as a “deep, shimmering fuchsia.” It’s a rich, deepened ruby red with darker, ruby red shimmer–very fine shimmer that’s still noticeable in natural light but has a thread-like appearance. Illamasqua Charisma is very similar–perhaps a little darker, less red. Zoya Karina is brighter, redder.

A Quick Look at Le Metier de Beaute Nail Lacquers

Le Metier de Beaute Nail Lacquers ($15.00 for 0.14 fl. oz.) saw the addition of four shades for their fall collection, Le Cirque:

• Noble Passion is a deep, iridescent navy blue with brightened blue-violet shimmer. This is a really cool shade. It glows in natural light as well as full light–not something every polish can do! It was almost pigmented enough in one coat, but I used two. It was reminiscent of Orly’s Lunar Eclipse, but while there are some similarities, they do look different and have totally opposite finishes. I also felt like a comparison could be made to Rescue Beauty Lounge’s Scrangie in the kind of feel–but the two are not the same in color at all.
• High Wire is a mauve-tinged silvered gray with a metallic finish. With the more metallic finish, I did get brush strokes, but color was incredibly pigmented with just one coat used here. I couldn’t think of any dupes for this shade.
• Magic at Dusk is a muted beige-pink with coppered gold shimmer. Two coats. I couldn’t think of any dupes for this shade.
• Dynamique is an ultra deep, dark burgundy-red cream. Just one coat. It is similar to Essie’s Velvet Voyeur but with more red.

Le Metier de Beaute’s Nail Lacquers come an undoubtedly painful price point. These are tiny little bottles with still-hefty price tags, but the formula is dreamy. It’s not too thick or thin, but what stands out is the pigmentation–very rich, intense pigment in nearly one stroke. I think if I was a little more careful, I could have made some of these one coaters. I was able to get a full week’s worth of wear with just minor tip wear.

RECOMMENDATION: From these four, I think three of them are really interesting shades–so in that respect, I liken this brand to Chanel. It’s a luxury brand, so if it’s something within your budget, I think they’re worth a look–especially now that the brand has increased their distribution channels.
