Lancome Color du Jour Color Design Eyeshadow

Lancome Color du Jour Color Design Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.042 oz.) is described as a “metallic golden eggplant.” It’s a reddish-burgundy with copper sparkle. The color payoff is decent but on the sheerer side. I’d love it if the texture was denser, because it feels a bit dry here. It’s redder, less plum, compared to MAC Trax. The color is more like MAC Star Violet but with gold shimmer and less frost.   I briefly tested this for a few hours to check on whether there would be fall out, and I’m happy to report that there was none after five hours of wear.

Lancome’s eyeshadows are actually formulated to be long-wearing with “pigment-packed color.” I don’t typically get quite so long in practice, though it’s not bad without a primer. I tend to get subtle creasing after eight hours without a primer, but when I use a primer, I have no issues at all, even after twelve hours.

	I like Lancome's version much better than Trax, which can be a pain to work with. It's nice that the sparkle in this shade does translate onto the lid and doesn't end up underneath the eyes.

Lancome Style Section Eyeshadow

Lancome Style Section Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.042 oz.) is described as a “metallic silver,” which is exactly what it is. It’s a bright silver with a high shine finish–very metallic–and decent color payoff, but it coudl have a softer, denser texture.

I tested out this particular shade on my eyelid without a primer (it’s supposed to be long-wearing), and it wore with very subtle creasing after eight hours. Over a primer, I had no problem with creasing or fading at the twelve-hour mark. This particular shade isn’t unique, but silver is a staple shade for any stash.

It reminded me of MAC Electra, which might be a shade darker.  It is more of a neutral silver compared to several others shades in the Swatch Gallery.

Lancome Zip Me Up Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.042 oz.) is described as a “metallic eggplant purple.” It’s part of Lancome’s permanent range of Color Design Eyeshadows (which is their individual range). Color Design Eyeshadows have varying finishes, but all of them are supposed to deliver “long-lasting, pigment-packed color [that] stays true for daylong wear.”

It’s a subtly cool-toned, medium-dark purple with a hint of burgundy-red. The color payoff is average at best but more along the lines of mediocre, because it’s patchy and uneven. The poor pigmentation is the result of a dry, stiff texture that has a slightly rough consistency. I’ve worn several of Lancome’s metallic-finished eyeshadows to test out the wear (but not this particular one), and I typically get eight hours of wear (without a primer) before there is subtle creasing.

Bare Escentuals Encore is brighter., while Milani Purr-fect Purple is slightly lighter, and theBalm All the Way Annie is more vibrant.

	This is one of the poorest performing Lancome eyeshadows I've come across! They have a lot of excellent eyeshadows with nice color payoff and smooth textures, so it was disappointed to find this one to be such a dud.

Lancome The New Black Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.042 oz.) is described as a “metallic shimmered black.” It’s part of Lancome’s permanent range of Color Design Eyeshadows (which is their individual range). Color Design Eyeshadows have varying finishes, but all of them are supposed to deliver “long-lasting, pigment-packed color [that] stays true for daylong wear.”

It’s a rich, dark black with blue undertones and silver micro-glitter. I did a quick wash of this color on the lid (without primer), and it wore for eight hours before subtly creasing. Over a primer, it wears for twelve hours without any issues.  The texture is smooth, and the color payoff is really true-to-pan–it’s a dark black, and it doesn’t drag or go on patchily, as some blacks do. The glitter is embedded in the powder itself well, but there are the occasional pieces that fall out.

This shade reminded me of Chanel Mirifique, though The New Black has a stronger blue-base. I imagine it’s also similar to MAC Black Tied but more pigmented.

	For as heavy on the shimmer/glitter as this shade is, it has very little fall out, but it does have some, so it isn't perfect. The intensity of the pigment is definitely the best part about this shade!

Lancome Designer Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.042 oz.) is described as a “metallic, golden khaki-green.” It’s part of Lancome’s permanent range of Color Design Eyeshadows (which is their individual range). Color Design Eyeshadows have varying finishes, but all of them are supposed to deliver “long-lasting, pigment-packed color [that] stays true for daylong wear.”

Designer is a murky, olive green with a subtle hint of khaki-gold sheen. It has a metallic finish, so it has a more reflective sheen than frosted appearance, despite the healthy dose of shimmer packed into the color. The color payoff is lovely–dense, opaque color–and the texture is soft to the touch, smooth, and blendable. Subtle shades of green that tend to lean a little brown work well for a softer smokier eye, because it’s not as stark as gray or black. It’s very earthy, so it tends to complement many skin tones. I like it paired with champagne-beiges for a softer look and grassy greens for something more vibrant.

It has less brown (and much more shimmer and sheen!) compared to Laura Mercier Pine Bronze. MAC Greensmoke is similar but cooler in tone. Inglot #419 looked similar initially, but it has a much browner base with less green overall.

Worn alone (with no primer), Designer wears well for eight hours. By the ninth hour, there is a subtle creasing and fading. It’s noticeable to someone who’s waiting and watching for it, but it’s not so noticeable that bystanders would point and giggle! Over a primer–unsurprisingly–it wears just fine for twelve hours with no fading or creasing.

The packaging feels a little bulky, given the size of the actual eyeshadow compared to what holds it, but I like the clear lid, and it’s still lightweight.  The clear lid slides open, which is easier on the nails, at least!
