Nahema yields opaque color coverage and has a creamy, glide-on consistency that feels comfortable to wear but not slippery. I tested this shade’s wear, and I was able to get five hours of wear. By the sixth hour, I felt like I needed a reapplication. One of my favorite characteristics of this formula is the luminous finish; it’s shiny without being overly glossy, and the shine lasts for at least half as long as the color itself does. For more packaging photos, please see this post.
Rouge Automatique is a top-notch formula, because the creaminess of the texture enables it to glide on, making for an easy application, but it's lightweight and never slippery, so it stays on and wears for hours.

Even though Rouge G still comes out on top as my favorite lipstick (just ever-so-slightly), Rouge Automatique is easily in my top ten (maybe top five even). It’s long-wearing, lightweight, feels comfortable to wear, and the finish is always luminous, which gives lips a healthy, luscious look. The wear is between four to eight hours, but Chant d’Aromes wears just over five for me when I trialed it. The consistency is creamy enough to enable an easy glide across the lips, but it’s not so full of slip that it slides around the lips. For more packaging photos, please see this post.

Guerlain Samsara (124) Rouge Automatique Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a berry-kissed medium-dark red with ruby red micro-shimmer. There’s the faintest hint of a cool undertone, but compared to more obviously blue-toned lipsticks, it almost appears orange-toned! The color coverage is mostly opaque with little product needed for the results seen in the swatch. It does have some resemblance to Guerlain Vega, but this almost looks orange in contrast, and it’s a bit darker and definitely not as bright. Guerlain L’Heure Bleue looks more like a berry-red in comparison. Giorgio Armani #406 is similar but has little to no shimmer. MAC Prolong is a touch brighter.
Guerlain’s Rouge Automatique is a fabulous formula–it’s long-wearing, comfortable, lightweight, and always seems to make lips look better: more luscious and luminous. Some of the lighter shades only wear for four to five hours, but richer shades like Samsara easily wear for six hours, up to eight, from my experience with the formula. The texture is lightweight, creamy enough to glide easily across lips, but it doesn’t slip around once applied. For more packaging photos, please see this post.

Guerlain Chamade (164) Rouge Automatique Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a pink-coral with a creamy, luminous finish that just looks juicy on lips. The color coverage is mostly opaque but there’s a translucency to it that gives it the really shiny look. MAC Ultra Darling seems rather similar, perhaps just slightly less opaque. Chanel Phoenix is brighter, slightly pinker, and more opaque. Chanel Genial is brighter and more coral.
The texture of Rouge Automatiques is lovely–it’s creamy without being slippery, lightweight but yields excellent color coverage without having to go back and forth five times, and always feels comfortable on the lips. When I test drove the wear for Chamade, it went strong for five and a half hours before needing a reapplication after six and a half hours of wear. For more packaging photos, please see this post.

Guerlain Vega (125) Rouge Automatique Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a brightened ruby red with subtle ruby red micro-shimmer and a cool undertone. The shimmer is so fine that it makes the finish appear more like a traditional cream, but it adds extra reflection and gives lips a more luminous look. The color coverage is mostly opaque. Guerlain Liu is pinker and a bit darker. NYX Chic Red has more of a semi-matte finish and appears slightly cooler toned. Guerlain Garconne is redder, less blue-based.
Guerlain is a brand that knows how to create a lipstick formula. Though my very favorite formula remains its luxurious Rouge G, the newer Rouge Automatique is extremely comparable. I find Rouge Gs wear just a smidgen longer, feel the tiniest bit more hydrating, and the color range more nuanced–but these differences are minute. Rouge Automatiques wear from four to eight hours, depending on the color. Rich shades like Vega wear a solid six hours or longer and leave a soft stain behind even as they begin to fade. The formula is creamy and soft without feeling slippery or like it’s melting; it glides onto lips easily and deposits good color coverage in one pass. For more packaging photos, please see this post.

Rouge Automatique is very comparable to the Rouge G formula, and the differences are minute, though they are there. This is an excellent formula regardless of that comparison, though, because it’s creamy enough to glide on but not so creamy that the color slips around, comfortable to wear, and keeps lips feeling hydrated, too. For more packaging photos, please see this post. L’Heure Bleue wore for six hours and left a soft stain behind.
