Guerlain Coup de Foudre Eyeshadow Palette ($59.00 for 0.25 oz.) is described as “exquisite shades of green, silvery patina, bronze-khaki, [and] vibrant coral.” It is a limited edition palette for spring.

Coup de Foudre #1 is a dirty olive green with a frosted, metallic finish. It had fantastic color payoff and applied really smoothly and evenly. Sephora Snakeskin Dress is darker, more golden. theBalm Lead Zeppelin is darker, smokier. Tarina Tarantino Dandy Lion is more golden, less metallic. bareMinerals Spectacular is browner. Inglot #419 is darker, less green.

Coup de Foudre #2 is a warm-toned, coral-orange with a satin finish. The pigmentation was true-to-pan, and it was finely-milled and velvety to the touch. bareMinerals Smash Hit is matte. Guerlain Terra Azzurra #3 is redder and more frosted. Inglot #361 is a touch redder.

Coup de Foudre #3 is a soft, pastel green with subtle yellow undertones and a frosted finish. It’s not quite mint green, because it’s not cool-toned enough, but it’s not too yellow. It had great color payoff, and it applied beautifully. Cinderella Cinderelly is more satin in finish and less yellow-toned. Tarina Tarantino Wonderful #4 is lighter. Make Up For Ever #34 is warmer, less frosted.

Coup de Foudre #4 is a dark gray with silver and teal shimmer. This color had only so-so pigmentation; it seemed to apply with better payoff when I used it on the eye, but it wasn’t as pigmented as the other shades. Urban Decay Asphalt is darker. Bobbi Brown Gunmetal is cooler-toned, darker. Urban Decay Gunmetal is cooler-toned, bluer.

Coup de Foudre is a nice alternative to softer spring shades that abound during the season.  In fact, I felt a very autumnal vibe from the color combination of this palette.  At a glance, the colors look pretty together but I was uncertain if they would pair as well on the lid as they did in individual pans.  They really do work together, though, and there are a few different combinations that can be created if you only want to use two or three of the four shades.

All four eyeshadows had soft, buttery textures that felt smooth, silky, and finely-milled.  The gray shade wasn’t as pigmented as the rest; not totally sheer but noticeably under-pigmented compared to the other shades and did have some translucency.  A fluffier crease brush seemed to do the trick to get better color payoff out of the color when I used it that way in the look below.  The soft, smooth consistencies made all four shades incredibly easy to blend and apply.  They also looked beautiful on the lid–no emphasis of lines or skin texture–and wore well for a full ten hours, no creasing or fading, without a primer.

	The quad consists of eyeshadows that feel as soft and as smooth as you'd ever want, and it presents an interesting color combination. I was able to get great, long-wear out of these without aid of a primer. The gray shade could use more color payoff, though.

Guerlain Spring 2012: Les Roses Eyeshadow Palette

Guerlain Les Roses Eyeshadow Palette ($59.00 for 0.25 oz.) is new (and permanent!) for spring. Guerlain describes the palette as having “an iridescent pink with pearl particles, matte pink, metallic violet, and raspberry shade with a velvety finish.” At first glance, it’s a very pretty spring palette that’s pretty much pink, pink, and more pink–totally reminiscent of Valentine’s Day. When I first saw it, I was really surprised to see such bold shades, and the pinks are not shy, barely-there shades; they’re really quite pink, and sometimes, pink can be a difficult shade to wear. On the flip side, you could double these as blushers quite easily.

The first shade in the palette is a purple-berry with a soft, frosted finish. It has excellent color payoff and a really smooth, soft texture that glides on easily and blends well. It’s much redder compared to MAC Deceit, darker and purpler compared to Make Up For Ever #17, purpler and less burgundy compared to Make Up For Ever #311, bit redder compared to MAC Hyperviolet, and touch purpler compared to Le Metier de Beaute Fig.

Next, in the middle and on the top, there is a soft pink; this is the closest you’ll get to pastel in this palette, but with the high frost finish, it reads bolder than a pastel would. It’s an airy pink with lots of shimmer and frost. It has good pigmentation, and the texture is pretty smooth and finely-milled overall. Inglot #319 is a matte version of this shade, while Inglot #431 has a slightly more metallif finish and yellow undertones. Make Up For Ever #303 is very close in finish but has yellower undertones.

Below the light pink, there is a bright medium-dark pink with a nearly matte finish (I detected a very faint shimmer but once applied, it looks matte). The color payoff is good, but the texture is a bit drier (being that it is matte, it’s not unexpected), so while it’s soft, there’s a hint of powderiness. It’s a couple of steps lighter compared to MAC Tease with Ease and more significantly lighter (or at least, more muted) compared to Inglot #362. Make Up For Ever #85 is a bit closer in color but not as blue-based and with the heavy frost finish, it looks a bit different.

The final shade, on the right, is a medium-dark fuchsia pink with a satiny sheen. It’s not vastly different from the other bright pink in this palette–it has a hint of fuchsia in it, so it’s less rosy pink, and it has a subtle sheen. The color payoff is good, and the texture is very soft and smooth, so it applies well and blends out nicely. It’s also similar to Make Up For Ever #85 but a bit darker and more fuchsia. Inglot #362 is still more vibrant and MAC Tease with Ease is still darker.

	The colors look good together in the pan, though I think for easiest wear, you may find yourself reaching for other products to combine with this palette. If you've never worn pink eyeshadow before, you may find you have to experiment a couple of times to get this palette to work on its own. The deeper burgundy color will help a lot to define the eye, and the bluer undertones of some of the other pinks will keep eyes from looking bloodshot. And you could always wear these as a blush!

Guerlain Les Ors: Velours d’Or

Guerlain Velours d’Or (410) Eyeshadow Palette ($59.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a smoky palette from Guerlain’s Holiday Collection.  I picked this up when Nordstrom was having some super point thing going on (I think it was triple points…), but I’m not sure I’m sold on it!

It contains four shades: a soft coppered gold with subtle gold sparkle; medium-dark violet plu m with blue-violet micro-shimmer; charcoal-mauve with a muted violet shimmer and slight sheen; and dark black with a matte finish. Upon first glance, the charcoal-mauve looked absolutely stunning–it almost gave off a duochrome sheen! It seemed like a mix of violet, plum, gray with green and violet shimmer/sheen. It’s less interesting when swatched, as it appears a bit flat in comparison.

The golden shade has Guerlain’s signature bee embossed, while the other three shades have a raised honeycomb pattern. The patterning will disappear after a few uses, though it doesn’t just disappear at first touch. I do, however, like that these patterns utilize each shade’s colors, rather than an overlay of another color, which ultimately affects the end color result but only as long as the overlay exists.

I found the golden shade to have a frostier finish and having some kick-up, whereas the remaining three colors were very smooth and were easy to apply.  Each shade had nice pigmentation–not sheer at all–and they built up easily, as Guerlain’s eyeshadows often do.

RECOMMENDATION: It’s nice, but I don’t think it’s a must-have.  If these kinds of colors call to you, it’s worth checking out, but I do think there are enough dupes available that if you’re not sold on all four shades, you may want to look elsewhere.
