Father’s Day is June 15, 2008 — have you picked up your perfect gift for that father figure in your life?  (Or maybe the father-to-be?)  I’m still at a total and utter loss as to what to pick up for my dad as he is a no-fragrance-no-frills kind of guy, so anything beauty related is completely out of the question (sigh!).  I’ll probably try to find some doodad or gadget in my budget that he doesn’t have!  What are you planning to get (or already get) for your Dad this year?

Here are some product suggestions for the father who is not nearly so adverse to a few male-care items in his toiletry bag…

L’Occitane CADE products are designed for men to strengthen and keep skin lookings its best despite working hard and playing hard. Wild Juniper is called “CADE,” which means that the scent of these products is an earthy, masculine, slightly woody fragrance. It’s definitely not a scent that they’d balk at and call too feminine. You can pick up their Shaving Set ($42.00), which includes Cade Juniper Scrub (4.4oz) and Shaving Cream (5.2oz), or you can build your own gift set with various other Cade products. The scrub helps exfoliates skin so they can get that ultra close, smooth shave us women adore. The cream also helps make that perfect shave just mere moments away! www.loccitane.com

Every Man Jack’s The Perfect Shave ($20.00) is a pack of essentials that is bound to please your darling dad, without breaking the bank, too.  I love Every Man Jack products because they’re effective, utilitarian, and guys are far more receptive to its clean, masculine packaging.  The Perfect Shave kit includes their face wash, face scrub, shave gel/shave cream, and face lotion.  Even my boy, who is pretty hard to persuade to use skincare products–even when designed for men–loved their body wash.  www.everymanjack.com

Liz Earle Men’s Essentials ($70.00) kit contains a face and body wash (200ml), Sensitive Shave Cream (100ml), After-Shaving Moisturizer (50ml), a towelling cloth, and handy dandy traveling case.  Liz Earle is a brand I consider for those who want to focus on more natural products, and at the same time, groom up the men in their lives without handing them bottles of sweet-scented facial lotions or pink-packaged products.  I’ve had great success with Liz Earle’s suncare line (adore their After Sun products!), and I imagine that their men’s skincare range is just as fabulous for the man in your life.  www.lizearle.com

Kiehl’sThe Jesse James Dopp Kit” ($66.00) was inspired by Jesse James (West Coast Choppers).  It contains Facial Fuel Energizing Face Wash, “White Eagle” Ultimate Brushless Shave Cream, Ultimate Man Body Scrub Soap, Facial Fuel Energizing Moisture Treatment, and a deluxe sample of Ultimate Strength Hand Salve.  I know Kiehl’s is often the go-to brand when it comes to buying a man something for his skin and what better way to do it than with a Jesse James-inspired kit?  www.kiehls.com

LUSH has packaged three fun father-loving products into a cute pre-wrapped gift. “DAD” ($29.95) consists of Happy Hippy shower gel, Ice Blue soap, and a new shampoo bar. All easy-to-use and nothing girly in the slightest!

Lush has also hand-picked the Marathon Bar ($5.25), which aids in relaxation and has a spicy, cinnamony scent.

Plus, Wiccy Magic Muscles ($8.95), which contains aduki beans and helps to relieve tension and knots, as great gifts for dads, too. www.lush.com

Still shopping for Mother’s Day? Here are a few more ideas!

LUSH’s Mum Gift is an adorable box that will tickle your mom’s nose the minute she opens it up! It contains The Comforter bubble bar, Sakura bath bomb, Lily Savon soap, Each Peach massage bar (mini), Celestial moisturizer (sample size), and Dream Cream! If you have a tub, bath bombs are divine, and massage bars? Your dad just might thank you later! Dream Cream is also a staple in my beauty closet! (And I totally have the Mum gift for myself, too!) Get yours at www.lushusa.com or in-store.

Kiehl’s Gardenia Hand and Body Lotion ($19.50), Gardenia Liquid Body Cleanser ($15.50), and Gardenia Candle ($28) will be a wonderfully fragrant favorite for “just-for-her” pampering. If you happen to live near a Kiehl’s freestanding store, you can do this nifty thing where you customize the package by putting it inside a certain gift box. I’m all about making gift baskets and the like! Available at www.kiehls.com.

Misikko is having a Mother’s Day sale, and Misikko is where Temptalia goes when she is need of a hair styling tool. I mean, hello, a T3 Evolution for only $189.99 (on sale, obviously!)

Mother’s Day is May 11th, 2008–mark your calendars! Here are some of our favorite ways to treat your “mom” (traditional or otherwise) this year:

Clinique ‘The Kissers’ Set ($25.00) is an inexpensive set for any fun-lovin’ mom who loves lipgloss. What I love about this is that these glosses are great for giving even to the lady who doesn’t necessarily love or wear makeup everyday. You know what else is a great gift? Clinique’s customizable Happy perfume; talk about a personal touch. Get your favorite photo of your mom & you into the photo so she can always remember the day. Plus, you can enter their Mother’s Day contest, too!

Lancôme Mother’s Day Lip Set ($49.50) comes in cool or warm, which is always nice, because often sets come with universal colors that really aren’t as universal as we think. Get two Color Fever Glosses, a Le Rouge Absolu shade, and a cute cosmetic bag.

Marc Jacobs ‘Daisy’ Mother’s Day Set ($75.00) is a special set of one of Marc Jabobs’ popular scents. If you’ve read any of our perfume-themed question posts, you’ll know readers are often recommending and wearing Marc Jacobs’ scents! The set includes an eau de toilette spray (3.4 oz), body lotion (5.1 oz), and a deluxe mini. This not your scent? Fragrance sets are incredibly popular for Mother’s Day, which means you can usually find favorite scents packaged into sets. Grab one for mom–and one for you!

philosophy ‘amazing grace’ mother’s day set ($75.00) is a Nordstrom exclusive that puts together a set of their signature Amazing Grace scented products of shampoo, bath and shower gel, firming body emulsion, and the fragrance itself. Don’t forget to dedicate a page to your mom at www.yourmomsphilosophy.com.

L’Occitane Cherry Blossom Body Set ($52.00) is a bit of spa-luxury mixed with traditional beauty. There’s just something about L’Occitane that is sophisticated and utterly classy, and it all feels luxurious to use. Get a body lotion, hand cream, and lip gloss in this fun set. Get it here!

Mother’s Day is not just about gift giving. It’s about appreciating the person who has played the role of your mother, your rock, your shoulder to cry on. It can be your sister, your daughter, your best friend’s mother. Gifts are great, but we all know that just showing your appreciation is what counts. Going out for a brunch or cooking up her favorite dessert (and insist she splurge!) is a great idea that’s easy and so do-able. If you have the time, scrapbooking is an excellent way to document and capture memories that will last a life time. Never be afraid to get creative or hands-on when it comes to giving and appreciating!

Mother’s Day is May 11th, 2008–mark your calendars! Here are some of our favorite ways to treat your “mom” (traditional or otherwise) this year:

Bella Il Fiore Lip Treats ($15.00) is an inexpensive way to say “I love you” to Mom this year. Give her a cute lip palette of five colors for her to enjoy.

Gianna Rose Atelier Royal Jelly & Shea Butter Set ($21.00) are luxury soaps with royal jelly and shea butter with a very strong, classic kind of scent (it just screams “sophistication”, since it’s more of a floral with woody or spicy notes to it–nothing fruity or sweet here). These make great decor options for that guest bath you’ve been wanting to spruce up!

Bond No. 9 Swarovski Stars Bon Bons ($700.00) is for the daughter who has a lot to give! Bond No. 9 has packaged four of their favorite scents (Bryant Park, Bleecker Street, Nuits de Noho, and Eau de New York) as Swarovski covered bon bons. I wish I had the cash to splurge on this for myself!

Melange Apothecary ($65.00 per person) is offering blending events on 4/27, 4/30, 5/4, and 5/7 where you are treated to appetizers and tea (Sundays) or appetizers and wine (evenings). They have 80 fragrances, and guests can formulate their own personal fragrance that will be blended into either eau de parfum, bath, body, or home fragrance. What’s better is the $65 is fully applied to any of your custom-blended products. To reserve, contact 818-385-0495.

The Spa at Pacific Palms Resort (varies) is the ultimate mother-daughter bonding experience. Treat your favorite lady in your life to some delectable, relaxing spa treatments from traditional massages to exotic body wraps. The facility is beyond pampering, especially as it was just recently constructed, so it features the very latest in luxury and opulence. Visit www.pacificpalmsresort.com for details!

Oh, you thought we already reviewed plenty of lip products?  Think again. This is the one of the few times of the year that I can focus on the beauty that is the lips, and I fully intend to milk it for all its worth.

Cargo Plant Love Lipstick ($20.00) in Joshua Tree was a sheer cinnamon red color, very subtle and wearable for the everyday. I must extoll the values of the PlantLove line, because Cargo donates $2 for every sale of every shade to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The lipstick is moisturizing because of the jojoba and shea butter found in it; it is also eco-friendly because of the ingredients it uses (and the packaging, too–the tube is made entirely out of corn and the outer carton is flower paper embedded with real seeds). Cute fact: moisten the outer carton, plant, and wait for a bouquet of wild flowers (seriously? I think I need to try this).

Neutrogena MoistureShine Soothing LipSheers ($8.99) come in a variety of shades, and for those who want subtle color, these offer a solution! They are sheer, buildable colors that are incredibly moisturizing, much like a tinted lip balm, that come in sleek silver tubes.

Palmer’s Dark Chocolate & Cherry Lip Butter ($2.40) is an easy way to go for this Valentine’s Day, when you want an ultra low-key, totally natural kind of lip. It’s glossy and shiny, but not sticky nor goopy. It’s very moisturizing (yay!), and did you not see the price? Because I think that sells the product! I found that it smelled much like dark chocolate, less noticeable cherry scent, but hey, I liked it. My boyfriend could smell it immediately after I put it on, too. Yummy! Oh, plus, it is pocket size, so it’s perfect to carry on-the-go in your jeans’ pocket or in your purse, regardless of whether it is a tiny clutch or a huge mega-purse.

Kiehl’s Lip Gloss Trio ($43.50) comes in three different sets: cool, warm, and kiss me (new shades). Their newest shades are French Rose and Downtown Peach. As I am a fan of super glossy, moisturizing, non-sticky glosses for everyday, “I’m just going to the grocery store,” kind of times, Kiehl’s is one of my favorite go-tos. I tend to have one of these stashed in at least one of my purses, because they’re totally portable and easy to use. Don’t let the potent color scare you, because all of these glosses are sheer and forgiving. Kiss your boy with this without worrying about leaving a lip imprint behind!

Let’s not forget about the ladies! I thought it was only fitting to do a bath/fragrance version for all of the females.

Davies Gate Sweet N’ Glow Set ($25.00) in Pink Grapefruit will give you a memorable bath time experience. The scent is only subtly sweet, but kind of a tangy, spicy grapefruit scent. I think the set is priced perfectly, because you get a little of everything and the sizes are decent. The Fizz Pop makes me a little hungry, though, since it looks delicious. Since I don’t always have time for a bath (and my boyfriend doesn’t wish for me to act like I’m 12 too often–seriously, I splash around like I’m a toddler and slosh water all over the place), I love to treat myself to a body scrub and shower gel duo for regular, more everyday showers.

Diesel Fuel For Life Gift Set ($55.00) contains both 1.7 oz eau de parfum spray and a 1.7 oz body lotion. I can note the mandarin, jasmine, and black currant in the scent, as well as a bit of musk. There’s a certain sweetness mixed with something woody that makes it perfect for me. I tend to enjoy scents like these compared to sweeter scents. What I like about this particular Diesel scent is that it lasts awhile on me, and I don’t find it cloying or overpowering. I find it wears down quite well throughout the day leaving a pleasantly softer version of the initial woody scent.
