Estee Lauder Blackened Cocoa Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner

Estee Lauder Blackened Cocoa Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner ($20.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a deep, dark brown with warm, red undertones and a matte finish. It delivers good color coverage in a single pass, and it doesn’t pull or tug at the lash line during application. The consistency is creamy and soft, so it glides on easily across the lash line and water line. While some brown eyeliners are a softer alternative to black, the depth of this shade makes it nearly as powerful as a soft black eyeliner. CoverGirl Brown is similar, but not quite as intense.

Estee Lauder has been putting out a lot of new products with impressive formulas, and the Intense Kajal Eyeliner is no exception.  The creamy glide, rich color payoff, and long-wear make this a winner.  It wears five and a half hours on my lower water line but lasts for up to ten hours on my lower lash line–there’s no fading, smudging, or migrating during those ten hours either!

Estee Lauder Blackened Black Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner

Estee Lauder Blackened Black Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner ($20.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a rich black with a mostly matte finish. It has excellent color payoff in a single stroke. I love how creamy this formula is; it glides on easily, evenly, and delivers full color without having to go back and forth. Despite the creamy consistency, it stays put–it doesn’t smudge, budge, or migrate on the lash line during the day. It doesn’t wear quite as well on the lower water line, but it did hang on for five to six hours.

This deep of a black is not impossible to find, but not every brand makes it. Some notable shades that are going to be similar in depth would be MAC Black Black and Urban Decay Perversion.

Blackened Black is a great choice for a rich, intense black eyeliner. The application is really lovely--soft, smooth, and easy to apply without tugging or pulling on the lash line.

Estee Lauder Blackened Sapphire Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner

Estee Lauder Blackened Sapphire Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner ($20.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a deep navy blue with a hint of indigo. It has a matte finish, and it has a fair amount of pigmentation in a single pass, but it builds up really easily and well. The texture is creamy without being slippery. It has a really dense feel and wears well on the lash line for ten hours or so (waterline is less, five to six hours). I couldn’t think of any dupes–a lot of my navy blue eyeliners are lighter or have shimmer, which tends to lighten the overall appearance.

Navy blue is an excellent alternative to black while still getting a really defined eye.  It can also add a pop of color without adding brightness to your favorite neutral look (which is my favorite way to wear it).  The matte base makes it more versatile, too, because you can smudge a shimmery eyeshadow to play with the finish and dimension of it.

Estee Lauder Blackened Plum Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner
Estee Lauder Blackened Plum Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner

Estee Lauder Blackened Plum Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner

Estee Lauder Blackened Plum Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner ($20.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a deep blackened purple that leans a little cool-toned. It’s not quite your violet, blue-based purple, but it’s nowhere near eggplant or burgundy. I couldn’t think of anything that comes close to the level of darkness (without being black)–the closest purple I could think of was L’Oreal HIP Violet Volt, which is much lighter and shimmery to boot!  Between the darkness and not-quite-cool-tone, I think this will be an excellent alternative to black eyeliners on all skin tones and against all eye colors.  It’s a great way to accent a smoky eye!

The pigmentation is impressive, because it’s really rich and opaque in a single pass, which is what we all want, and we don’t always find it, especially in purple eyeliners–too often purple eyeshadows and eyeliners seem to skip and drag. Blackened Plum is decadent in texture; creamy enough to glide-on effortlessly and give great color in one go but still stays in place once you apply it. It wore for ten hours without fading or smudging on the lash line, though the water line was only around six hours.

Fantastic purple eyeliner--the intensity of this shade is so rich and has a lot of depth, even though there's no shimmer or anything but endless purple. The wear is just as good: ten hours on the lash line, six hours on the water line, and no smudging or migrating!

Estee Lauder Blackened Olive Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner
Estee Lauder Blackened Olive Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner

Estee Lauder Blackened Olive Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner

Estee Lauder Blackened Olive Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner ($20.00 for 0.04 oz.) is murky olive-brown with a sooty, blackened appearance. I think it will be nice paired with hazel or green eyes, because it will look warmer and more green that way. MAC Buried Treasure is the closest dupe I could think of, but it’s not as opaque and has a whole lot of shimmer in comparison.

Estee Lauder’s new eyeliner formula is supposed to be long-wearing, richly pigmented, creamy, and wearable on the inner rim of the eyes. Blackened Olive is extremely creamy in consistency; it glides on effortlessly, depositing good color coverage in a single pass. It’s not quite as pigmented or as creamy as Electric Teal, but it comes close. The wear is good on the waterline but better on the lower lash line for me; it wears between four and six hours on the waterline, depending on if have watery eyes during the day, but on the lower lash line, it makes it almost to ten hours without any fading or smudging.

It's a very dark black-brown with just a hint of olive in it! There's no shimmer, so it has more of a matte/creamy look to it when applied. I think it would pair well with hazel and green eyes.

Estee Lauder Electric Teal Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner
Estee Lauder Electric Teal Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner

Estee Lauder Electric Teal Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner

Estee Lauder Electric Teal Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner ($20.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a new pencil formula that’s supposed to be rich in color, creamy in consistency, and can be worn on the inner rim of the eyes. This particular shade is limited edition, but four other shades were introduced and will stay in the line. Electric Teal is a beautiful shade of rich, blue-teal with a matte finish, but it doesn’t look dry or chalky. The creamy consistency gives it great glide-on color that doesn’t skip or drag–you get excellent color payoff in a single pass. I’ve been really loving how much pop Electic Teal adds to any neutral look (teals pair exceptionally well with browns and neutrals). I don’t have any teals like it (see my many teal eyeliner swatches); one of the worst eyeliners I’ve used was NARS Kaliste, and I’d say this is the closest, but that shade doesn’t have as much blue and comes out darker.

I did come across something interesting, and Estee Lauder doesn’t say how long this formula will wear for; it’s not even vague–nowhere in the online descriptions is long-wear! I thought it was very interesting that they did not make a claim on how these would wear–they emphasized the creaminess and pigmentation of the product but not the wear. Thankfully, I come to you armed with the press release, which does tout these as “long-lasting, long-wearing, non-skipping and non-tugging.”

They more than deliver when it comes to non-skipping and non-tugging–these are effortless to apply. They slide smooth as silk across the lash line and deposit even color in one go. The wear is better than the average eyeliner on the water line and works well on the lower lash line. On the waterline, it lasts between four and six hours, depending on if my eyes get watery at some point while wearing it; so on a good day, six, and on a bad day, four. On the lower lash line, it wears for up to ten hours, though the line seemed the tiniest bit thinner than it was when I originally applied. It didn’t budge, smudge, migrate, or otherwise turn my under eye area some mutated shade of teal.

If you dig this shade, I recommend snapping it up sooner rather than later, as it’s sold out in a few places online, though I did find a major retailer that had it in stock for you :)

For as creamy as the consistency is, this formula wears long and well throughout the day--typically, such a creamy consistency would mean smudge city, but this hangs on for ten hours without giving you raccoon eyes (would that be peacock eyes, since it's teal?).
