I really, really like this look. It is pretty similar to the look I did for my sister’s high school graduation a few days ago. I don’t normally repeat looks so close together, but since yesterday was Father’s Day, and I know my dad isn’t big on makeup… neutral it was!
What are some of your favorite neutral looks?
P.S. – I am so happy with my eyebrows — they are just about the thickness that I have been working on for the past two months.
I used Soft Ochre paint pot all over lid, Nylon eyeshadow on lid, Ricepaper eyeshadow on middle of lid, Warming Trend eyeshadow (LE) on outer lid, Satin Taupe eyeshadow above crease, Bronze eyeshadow in outer crease, Ricepaper eyeshadow above crease and on brow, Nylon eyeshadow on lower lash line, Blacktrack fluidline on upper and lower lash lines, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. I had Margin blush with Dior Amber Diamond SkinShimmer on cheeks. I wore High 90s slimshine (LE) with Nymphette lipglass on my lips.
** These are recommendations for dupes based on permanent colors available — may not necessarily be identical; they are the closest I can think of!
Warming Trend = Patina; High 90s = Skew

We all have days where minimal makeup is where it’s at (okay, most of us), and it isn’t always out of laziness or being work-appropriate. Sometimes heavy makeup just isn’t practical! I wanted to share with you my minimal makeup routine for days I spend outdoors. In the above photo, this is my look to go hiking, and it lasted through a six mile hike (about two hours) in 84 degree weather. This picture was taken AFTER the hike!
- Urban Decay Surreal Skin Mineral Makeup in Nirvana (LOVE THIS!) for foundation
- Kanebo 38C Mascara
- MAC Clear Brow Set
- Dior Skinshimmer in Amber Diamond on cheeks
- MAC Fuchsia Fix Tinted Lip Conditioner on lips
- Shiseido’s SPF55 for Face & Body on face and neck
- Random body sunscreen
Keeping Your Face Light is important to making sure you don’t sweat off what you do put on. Moisturizer and sunscreen should be your first steps. With normal skin, I find that I can just slather Shiseido’s SPF55 for face and body without going for a moisturizer, but otherwise I suggest going for a lightweight, fast absorbing moisturizer. Nothing heavy like MAC’s Moisturelush!
I do not typically sweat buckets off of my face, which is why I often wear liquid in hot weather, but I do find that loose powders work well in hotter weather. The only place I ever really break a sweat on is my upper lip, so I actually avoid putting any product there since I know I’ll sweat it off. I particularly love Urban Decay’s Surreal Skin Mineral Makeup for just this purpose. It’s finely milled, but it gives decent coverage and doesn’t require lots of buffing to make it look good. For longer lasting blusher, try a cream blush with a powder brush on top, finished with setting or loose powder. I just went for a subtle highlighter, since I knew I’d flush from the physical exertion.
Waterproof & Longwearing are two marketing tools that you want to zone in on when selecting eye makeup. Sometimes I’ve worn a really light neutral look (like to the beach), but I’ll often just coat my lashes with a waterproof/heatproof mascara to open up my eyes. I skip liner, as it does tend to migrate and smudge easily in the heat–even my trust fluidline. For upper lash liner, it’s not such an issue as it doesn’t move very much compared to your lower lash line.
Tints, Stains, and Longwear are all suitable for all day lip color, or at least easy-to-apply color. I love Fuchsia Fix Tinted Lip Conditioner because it gives me a pop of pink on my lips bringing them from dead to alive in seconds. If it came in a stick form, I’d be in heaven. For the same reason, I like stains because they’re not very fussy once you’ve got them on. I do wear MAC Prolongwears if I really want a stand-out lip color that’ll last me eight hours or more (though don’t make out in them…).
What products do you recommend for activities like going to the beach, hiking, playing an outdoor sport?
I did this look REALLY quickly last night before we went to Easter dinner- like five minutes or less for everything!
I used Dior Quint in Goldfever for this look. I used the center color all over the lid, the bottom left color for middle of lid, and bottom right color for outer lid and crease; I used MAC Ricepaper eyeshadow above crease and on brow with MAC Black Funk/Pop Blue dual edge pencil on lower lash line with Milani Power Lash mascara and MAC Brun eyeshadow to fill in brows. I wore MAC Margin blush with Guerlain Mythic Pressed Meteorite on cheeks. I had MAC Strawbaby lipstick with MAC Cult Fave lipglass on my lips.

It’s too bad the pictures didn’t do this justice, because it DID come out really nice in person. Just really subtle and softly smoky. I wanted something super quick and simple, but I wanted something that was noticeable.
I used Ricepaper eyeshadow all over lid, Espresso eyeshadow in outer crease and corner of lid, and Ricepaper eyeshadow above crease. I wore Margin blush on cheeks with Sculpt sculpting powder to contour. I had Gentle Coral tinted lip conditioner on my lips.

Despite spending most of my day with my head in the beauty realm, I honestly don’t find I wear full makeup as often as I used to. Maybe it’s because I’m busier, or maybe it’s because I’m lazier (I’m going with the latter), but nonetheless, I tend to go for a minimal face. There are even a few days (when my skin is being nice) where I will even go sans makeup altogether!
What exactly does the “I’m Not Really Wearing Makeup” look entail? I have discovered that with the right mix of products you can get that totally natural look and look good in it.
I used Studio Fix Fluid in NC30 applied in dabs using the 194 brush, then buffed in with the 182 brush. Sculpt sculpting powder to contour cheeks using the 168 brush. Select Sheer Loose Powder in NC25 applied using the 187 brush (stippling brush). Dior Skin Shimmer in Amber Diamond with the 150 brush on apples and high planes of cheeks. Espresso and Carbon eyeshadows to fill in brows with a 266 brush. I finished by wearing 3N lipstick with 2N lipglass on lips.
What do you need? Since we are not all the same shade of skintone, nor do we all own the same products, let me give you some more generic ideas as to what you need for that super natural look.
