Fall Makeup:  Go Red with Neutrals

When it comes to some of the darker shades of fall lip colors, pairing them with a neutral eye is always an easy way to make them work for you without overwhelming your face.   This is the kind of look where I challenge myself:  “How many products that I need to review can I fit on my face for one look?”  It’s the epitome of multi-tasking, right?  Hey, at least it’s not my usual where I have half my face done in certain products… and the other half with something else.

All new products used will be reviewed on the blog – I’ll give you my take at that time

You will need the following…

• Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (neutral eyeshadow base), Guerlain Rue des Francs Bourgeois Eyeshadow Palette, Bobbi Brown Chocolate Brown Eyeliner (dark brown), Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara (black)
• Face: Guerlain Parure Gold Foundation (03), Guerlain Les Voilettes Mineral Powder (03)
• Cheeks: Rock & Republic Call Me Blush (pinky coral)
• Lips: Guerlain Gwen Rouge G Lipstick (deep red), Guerlain Violine (462) Kiss Kiss Gloss Serum (burgundy red)
• Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 116 (dense blush brush)

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply the bottom left shade of the palette on the inner third of the lid and pull upwards along the inner crease. Lightly blend the upper left shade of the palette on the middle of the lid with the 239. Next, apply the bottom middle shade of the palette onto the outer lid with the 239. Define the crease with the upper middle shade of the palette with the 226. Blend the upper left shade of the palette with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Chocolate Brown eyeliner on the lower lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Inimitable Intense mascara.

For cheeks, apply Call Me blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Gwen lipstick first, and then layer Violine lipgloss for a complementing lip.

5-Minute Makeup:  Neutrals

Super fast neutral eye I did last week!   I have some tutorials to upload still, but unfortunately, there’s no tutorial for this look, because I really was in a major rush and didn’t have time to record it.  Sorry in advance!

• Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (neutral eyeshadow base), MAC Naked Lunch Eyeshadow (shimmery pink-peach), MAC Romp Eyeshadow (amber gold), MAC Bronze Eyeshadow (bronze), MAC Grain Eyeshadow (highlighter), Urban Decay Lucky 24/7 Liner (copper), MAC Plushlash Mascara (black)
• Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder (translucent)
• Cheeks: MAC Margin Blush (dirty coral)
• Lips: Guerlain Giulette Lipstick (pink), MAC Nymphette Lipglass (peachy-pink)
• Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 116 (dense blush brush)

Blend Grain eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone . Bring everything together by applying Lucky liner on the lower lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.

For cheeks, apply Margin blush on the apples of the cheeks and smooth with fingertips.

For lips, apply Giulette lipstick first, and then layer Nymphette lipglass for a complementing lip.

5 Minute Face: Joie-de-Vivre Cremeblend Blush

As promised, I wanted to show you how to use MAC’s new Cremeblend Blushes in a look. They can be worn on lips (yes, I’ll do lip swatches — probably today or tomorrow!) or cheeks, and the intensity is very buildable; you don’t need much to get a little color on the cheeks, but it really depends on what you’re going for. I was kind of bummin’ a bit on Friday, so I just wanted to do something quick, easy, and minimal.

Forgot to tell you the most important piece of the puzzle… it wore well.  I was running around the house a bit re-organizing my makeup, and it lasted pretty well.  I’d say it did fade a bit by hour six or so, but it was noticeable even when I went to remove later in the evening.  I do, typically, prefer to use a cream blush as a base and then lightly apply a powder blush or else a powder highlighter on top, then set my entire face with loose powder.  In this look, I just set with loose powder at the end (wanted to make sure you could *see* Joie-de-Vivre on its lonesome!).

• Eyes: MAC Plushlash Mascara (black)
• Face:  Kiehl’s Tinted Moisturizer (medium)
• Cheeks: MAC Joie-de-vivre Cremeblend Blush (coral-pink)
• Lips: MAC Lush & Bright Lip Gelee (coral-pink)
• Brushes: MAC 188 Brush (small stippling brush)
• Substitutes: Joie-de-Vivre = NARS Lokoum; Lush & Bright = Enchantress

For eyes, simply coat lashes with one or two light coats of Plushlash mascara for a very minimal, but noticeable, effect.

For cheeks, apply Joie-de-Vivre blush to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 188. Use the a fluffier blush brush like the 116 to gently blend color out.

For lips, apply Lush & Bright lip gelee for some sparkle.

• Cheeks: Plum Foolery blush (plummy pink); Dior Rose Diamond Skin Shimmer (pink highlighter)
• Lips: Chignon lipstick (sheer dark berry), Fast Friends lipglass (sheer purple)
• Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 214 (smudge brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
• Substitutes: Un-Basic White = White Frost; Ego = Pink Venus; Fashion Groupie = Satellite Dreams; Rave = Ransom (Urban Decay); Chignon = Desire; Fast Friends = Cultured

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249. On the inner lid, pack Un-Basic White eyeshadow on using the 239. Apply Ego eyeshadow to the middle portion of the lid. Darken crease with Satellite Dreams eyeshadow using the 226. Sweep Ricepaper eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Rave Pearlglide Liner on lower lash line. Apply Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Plum Foolery blush using the 129, then highlight with Dior Rose Diamond Skin Shimmer with the 188. Apply Chignon lipstick to lips, and then top with Fast Friends lipglass for color and shine.

Easy & quick neutral eye This is the “I want to try out a bunch of new products” look — I tried out Guerlain’s Bleu Cruise mascara, Benefit Posietint, and Benefit 10! Yay!

Darken the outer lid using Soft Brown eyeshadow using the 239. Darken crease with Espresso eyeshadow using the 226, then overlay with Soft Brown eyeshadow. Sweep Shroom eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Urban Decay Stash Liner on lower lash line, and Guerlain Bleu Cruise mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Benefit Posietint using the 129, then highlight with Benefit 10 with the 188. Apply Wild ‘Bout You lipstick to lips, and then top with Desire lipglass for color and shine.

On the lid, apply Bamboo eyeshadow using the 239. Darken crease with Texture eyeshadow using the 239. Sweep Shroom underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Urban Decay Bourbon 24/7 Liner on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with NARS Mata Hari blush using the 129. Apply Sweetie lipstick to lips, and then top with Red Devil lipglass for color and shine.

Mellan enjoying some of his Christmas gifts The red/white striped one has long since been halved, the other one is still intact… for now! I really wish I could find more toys that would last longer than a couple of weeks. (We have a bee-hive-shaped Kong and a Everlasting Treat ball as our long-survived toys, but he doesn’t play with them much either!)
