Dior Coral Crystal (345) Serum de Rouge ($34.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a peachy tangerine that looks more like a soft peach when worn–it’s certainly not as vibrant as it looks in the tube or swatched against my lips (which have a natural corpse-like color, so it may have muted some of the vibrancy). The color coverage is semi-opaque but translucent. MAC Fashion City is darker and more opaque. NARS Love Devotion is similar but a bit more translucent.

Dior crams a lot of claims into this particular product, as it is supposed to be a lip treatment product in addition to being a lip color. I’m not prepared to give up lip swatching or reviewing other lipsticks for thirty days to test whether these will improve my lips’ condition over time (and to be frank, my lips are typically well-hydrated and exfoliated, so I don’t think they need much improvement!). It has a really soft, creamy consistency that makes it easy to apply (and overapply) but feels very lightweight. I only get two hours or so of wear, though. While it’s on, it’s hydrating and not drying, and I’ve wore this and reapplied two or three times over the course of the day to see if the formula is drying, but it wasn’t–my lips still felt good (and no desire for lip balm) after ten hours of regular wear of this formula.

Oddly enough, Sephora looks like they’ve pulled all but one shade from their stock, so I don’t know if these are possibly being discontinued. Dior’s website still has the full range available, as do other retailers, but it was curious to see these practically MIA at Sephora.

	As creamy and as comfortable as this formula is to wear, I never have good luck with the wear time! A few of the darker shades wear a bit better, but lighter shades like Coral Crystal seem to disappear within two hours.

Dior Spring 2011: Pinky Mauve

Dior Pinky Mauve (460) Serum de Rouge ($32.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a semi-opaque petal pink with soft white shimmer and slight yellow undertones. It’s a very wearable, ultra flattering shade that’s perfect for everyday or paired with a smoky eye.  I have absolutely no idea why this is called “pinky mauve” though.

my thoughts on the formula: Everything about the Serum de Rouge formula is incredibly nice–except the wear. These creamy, glossy lipsticks slide off my lips in under two hours (usually just over an hour). Given the small amount of product you get (about half the size of your average lipstick), frequent reapplication can run you through one of these a lot faster than you’d think!

The Serum de Rouge formula is soft, creamy, and very lightweight. It feels like a lipstick, but it has the glossiness of a gloss without feeling like one. Not totally opaque, but pretty rich and typically not very sheer. The formula is comparable to Cle de Peau’s Extra Silky Lipstick, but not as stellar–but very close (and $20 less!).

final thoughts: I do like Dior’s Serum de Rouge formula quite a bit, but I really get frustrated with how quickly it wears off (between one and two hours, while I average four hours on most lipsticks).  I’m not keen on needing to reapply every hour or so, especially when the product is 40% less than most lipsticks.

Creamy, Silky, & Pigmented – Too Good to be True?

This July, Dior will launch five new shades of Serum de Rouge ($32.00 each, 0.07 oz. each): Pearly Pink (470), Radiant Pink (560), Pink Diva (670), Ruby (870), and Plum (880). I tested four of the five new shades, but I’ve reviewed the Serum de Rouge formula before (here and here). Everything about the Serum de Rouge formula is incredibly nice–except the wear. These creamy, glossy lipsticks slide off my lips in under two hours (usually just over an hour). Given the small amount of product you get (about half the size of your average lipstick), frequent reapplication can run you through one of these a lot faster than you’d think!

• Pearly Pink (470) is a semi-sheer rose pink with a glossy sheen. This is the sheerest shade of Serum de Rouge I’ve tried myself. It has subtle shimmer that’s really not noticeable. Pearly Pink is incredibly similar to Radiant Pink, though, except this shade is a little cooler in tone.
• Radiant Pink (560) is a semi-opaque medium rose pink with a glossy sheen. It’s not too milky, but it’s not bright or bold–it’s very soft, but it imparts a nice natural pinkness to my lips. It reminds me of a pinker MAC Angel. It’s a little brighter, pinker, and warmer than Pearly Pink, but the two are quite similar.
• Ruby (870) is a semi-opaque brightened, reddened plum with a soft glossy sheen. The glossiness in this shade seems a little more subdued in comparison to other shades in the formula, but it’s still there. The color itself is beautiful–very classy, perfect for fall, and sophisticated. Despite it not being full-color coverage, it applies smoothly and evenly.
• Plum (880) is a semi-opaque reddened plum with a glossy sheen. Wait, does that sound familiar? While there is a noticeable difference between this shade and Ruby, it’s very slight. This shade is darker, redder, but it applied a little streaky for me.

The Serum de Rouge formula is soft, creamy, and very lightweight. It feels like a lipstick, but it has the glossiness of a lipstick without feeling like one. It doesn’t dry out lips, and the color pay off is quite good. Not totally opaque, but pretty rich and typically not very sheer. The formula is comparable to Cle de Peau’s Extra Silky Lipstick, but not as stellar–but very close (and $20 less!).

I did notice that the darker shades like Ruby and Plum seemed to stay on a little longer (a full two hours) and both took longer to fade (another hour or so) entirely, while lighter shades like Pearly Pink were almost entirely gone by an hour and a half.

RECOMMENDATION: If you don’t mind frequent reapplication of your lip color, Dior’s fall Serum de Rouge shades are an interesting, even if a little redundant, mix of colors that go from soft and wearable to darker and vampier.

Dior Raspberry Serum (760) Serum de Rouge ($32.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a darkened, reddish-raspberry pink with a glossy sheen.  It has very, very fine (nearly invisible) shimmer, if you look really close.  The color isn’t quite as deep as I’d expect for raspberry, but it’s close.  It’s kind of like a muted, lightened raspberry, perhaps.  I like the creaminess, the way it feels lightweight and moisturizing on lips, but the wear time could be better (just under two hours for me).

I originally reviewed Serum de Rouge here, but in summary, these feel really nice on lips but do require frequent reapplication in my experience.  Normally, reapplication would not be an issue, but you only get 0.07 oz. (as compared to the 0.12 oz. average in many lipsticks).  In addition to the lesser quantity, the creamy quality of these makes it easy to over-apply the product (and thus use more faster than you need to!).

I’ve only tried two shades, but so far, they’re both very universal and wearable.  They were both pigmented and applied beautifully.  I love the formula but wish you either got more or these lasted longer on my lips!

Serum de Rouge is a very creamy, silky lipstick with a bit of a lip gloss feel.   The color can go on sheerly or be layered for a more opaque look.  The formula and feel of the lipstick is really lovely–moisturizing and smooth–and it looks lovely on.  My biggest issue with it is how quickly it disappears.  I find that reapplication becomes necessary after an hour and a half, maybe two hours.  Because it is a glossier lipstick, you can easily over-use the product, and the product itself is about half the size of your average lipstick, so the need to reapply often is definitely not something you want.

The formula actually reminds me a lot of Cle de Peau’s Extra Silky Lipstick.  Same size, very similar packaging, but Dior’s version is $20 cheaper.   Price aside, Cle de Peau does it better–creamier, silkier, glossier, and wears longer (three to four hours).   Serum de Rouge is equally hydrating/moisturizing, though I don’t know if I’d agree with Dior’s description that they’re a “lip treatment.”  It feels nice on my lips, when it’s there, but the moisture only lasts as long as the lipstick does, so I don’t think I’d say it did anything for me in the long-run, but I only used it a few days.

Had I not have tried Cle de Peau’s Extra Silky Lipstick, these would definitely rank higher on Temptalia’s all-time favorite lipsticks, but Cle de Peau is a little better–overall–but it does come at a steep price.
