Clarins Sunset Rouge Prodige Lipstick
Clarins Sunset Rouge Prodige Lipstick

Clarins Sunset Rouge Prodige Lipstick

Clarins Sunset Rouge Prodige Lipstick ($24.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a brightened tangerine orange with peach and white micro-shimmer and a glossy shine. On my lips, it looks a bit coral-orange. The color coverage is semi-opaque; it delivers a healthy amount of color, but there’s enough translucency that my natural lip color shows through, too.  While the texture was smooth overall, it did not apply as evenly as I’d like.  It reminded me of Guerlain Orange Euphorique, which is a little brighter and more opaque. Chanel Sari Dore is more opaque and darker. MAC Made to Order is similar but doesn’t have as much gold shimmer.

Rouge Prodige is a creamy lipstick that glides on easily and delivers an ultra glossy shine. Despite its creaminess, it has a lightweight feel, and it’s comfortable to wear for the three to four hours that it wears for. It’s supposed to be long-lasting, but unless it’s a really rich red, it’s average when it comes to wear (most lipsticks wear three to four hours on me). It has a berry-like scent but no taste; the scent is subtle and doesn’t read synthetic.

Clarins Sunset Rouge Prodige Lipstick Review, Photos, Swatches

B+
It's a flattering color on warmer skin tones, and as far as really orange shades go, I would expect it to work decently on cooler complexions because of the translucency in the color.

Clarins Rouge Pridge: Lilac Pink

Clarins Lilac Pink Rouge Prodige Lipstick ($24.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a lilac-kissed pale pink with a subtle glossed shine and semi-opaque color. There is a faint sprinkling of micro-fine white shimmer. This is just one of those shades that is way too easy to wear often, because it looks natural but still more color than my natural lips yield on their own.

my thoughts on the formula: Rouge Prodige has a shiny, glossy finish, and it doesn’t feel like the traditional long-wearing lipstick does. There is nothing drying about it when you apply it, because it applies like a thin gloss or a gloss/lipstick hybrid. The color pay off is excellent, though, and really delivers opaque color with a lightweight feel. It doesn’t transfer much when drinking from a glass, but for whatever reason, the wear doesn’t extend past four hours. It is a comfortable lipstick to wear, because it doesn’t cling or dry lips out. There is a faint sweetened berry scent that is detectable but not overpowering (and doesn’t read synthetic or syrupy sweet), and there was no noticeable taste.

final thoughts: Though it is a cooler-toned shade of pink, it works well on warmer complexions (try pairing it with purples and plums), in addition to naturally complementing cooler skin tones.

Clarins Red Prodige Rouge Prodige Lipstick

Clarins Rouge Prodige Lipstick: Red Prodige

Clarins Red Prodige Rouge Prodige Lipstick ($24.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a bright, tomato red with a high shine finish and nearly opaque color. The color glides onto lips effortlessly, and it leaves lips with this rich, vibrant color that seems to melt on lips.

About the Formula: Rouge Prodige has a shiny, glossy finish, and it doesn’t feel like the traditional long-wearing lipstick does. It is a comfortable lipstick to wear, because it doesn’t cling or dry lips out (but while it has a glossy feel when applied, I do not find it moisturizing). There is a faint sweetened berry scent that is detectable but not overpowering (and doesn’t read synthetic or syrupy sweet), and there was no noticeable taste.

FINAL THOUGHTS: If it stayed true to its claim of long-lasting lip color, I’d definitely give it a higher score. It’s a great lipstick, but it does fall short on wear (four hours, which is average for me). This kind of red works best on neutral to warm skin tones, because of the slight orange base.

Clarins Rosewood Rouge Prodige Lipstick
Clarins Rosewood Rouge Prodige Lipstick

Going Beyond Nude with Rosewood

Clarins Rosewood Rouge Prodige Lipstick ($24.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a rosy nude with a glistening shine.  This is my kind of nude–it doesn’t wash you out or make you look like a corpse.  It’s soft and muted, the way a good nude should be, but it still brightens up the face.  This is the kind of shade that works well for everyday or paired with a heavier eye/cheek look.  I find it more neutral-cool, which makes it a very wearable shade.

It does have that shiny, glossy finish the description boasts, and it doesn’t feel like the traditional long-wearing lipstick does. There is nothing drying about it when you apply it, because it applies like a thin gloss or a gloss/lipstick hybrid. The color pay off is excellent, though, and really delivers opaque color with a lightweight feel. It doesn’t transfer much when drinking from a glass, but for whatever reason, it just doesn’t extend past four hours.

The Rouge Prodige is a comfortable lipstick to wear, because it doesn’t cling or dry lips out (but while it has a glossy feel when applied, I do not find it moisturizing). RECOMMENDATION: I always welcome a new line with opaque lip color (because it’s easier to sheer out an opaque color than it is to build up the color of a sheer shade!), and Rouge Prodige is a nice lipstick overall–it just falls short of its long-wearing claims for me. If it didn’t have that claim, I would have given it a higher score.

Clarins Clementine Rouge Prodige Lipstick
Clarins Clementine Rouge Prodige Lipstick

An Orange Good Enough to Eat

Clarins Clementine Rouge Prodige Lipstick ($24.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a vibrant, bright orange with a very fine dusting of yellow-gold shimmer.  I get five hours of wear with this shade, so this shade wore better than Blackberry by an hour.  I did like that it didn’t seem to leave a stain though.  An orange this bright is a shade I would recommend wearing with more minimal makeup, just because it will be the centerpiece of your look given its vibrancy.  It is not quite as blindingly neon as MAC’s Morange or Neon Orange, but it sure comes close.

Clarins Blackberry Rouge Prodige Lipstick
Clarins Blackberry Rouge Prodige Lipstick

First Look at Clarins Rouge Prodige

Clarins Blackberry Rouge Prodige Lipstick ($24.00 for 0.10 oz.) is Clarins’ latest in lipstick formulas–it’s supposed to be a long-wearing lipstick with intense color that smooths away lip lines with high shine. Blackberry is an opaque, muted, pinked plum with a glossy shine. It’s actually a lovely shade for fall and winter that’s perfect for the season without being overwhelming.

I only get four hours of wear with this shade, and for me, that’s the average time a lipstick wears on me–it’s just not that long-wearing.

There is a faint sweetened berry scent that is detectable but not overpowering (and doesn’t read synthetic or syrupy sweet), and there was no noticeable taste.
