A Wearable Shade of Brown Lipgloss

Clarins Chocolate Prodige Lip Gloss ($20.00 for fl. oz.) is a reddened brown full of light pink and white micro-shimmer. Bobbi Brown Midnight Violet is more berry-hued. MAC Fancy Cat is browner, less red-toned. MAC Gertruyd is redder, less brown. MAC A Different Groove is darker and has gold shimmer.

According to Clarins, this gloss formula is supposed to have “intense color, mirror-like shine, and long-lasting hold.” Chocolate is mostly opaque, and it applied very evenly and stayed that way throughout the wear. It wore for five and a half hours, and while it initially felt non-sticky, it develop a very light tackiness after an hour and a half (but it never became sticky). It has a sweet, fruity scent but no discernible taste. It comes with a long sponge applicator that’s contoured on both sides, which makes it really easy to apply. The formula is lightly hydrating and comfortable to wear overall.

	It's a lovely formula that's long-wearing, comfortable, lightly hydrating, and more opaque than not. I like that it applies evenly, and I think the red in the brown makes it more wearable and modern.

Add a Splash of Grenadine to Your Pout

Clarins Grenadine (05) Gloss Prodige Lipgloss ($20.00 for 0.19 oz.) is a warm, strawberry pink with gold shimmer. MAC Forever Rose is less pink, more coral, has no shimmer. MAC Star Quality is lighter and has no shimmer. Revlon Strawberry is a touch redder and doesn’t have gold shimmer (but has white and pink sparkle). MAC Galaxy Rose is a bit darker and doesn’t have the same shimmer.

Gloss Prodige is supposed to have “intense color, mirror-like shine, and long-lasting hold.” It has nearly opaque color coverage with some lingering translucency, but it covers very well and–more importantly–evenly. The texture isn’t too thick or too thin, and it feels lightweight on. It has a high gloss shine, and while not a gloss I’d describe as particularly sticky, there is some mild tackiness after an hour or two. Grenadine lasted five hours on me. It has a sweet, fruity scent–almost like a watermelon Sour Patch Kid, there’s a tanginess to it–but it’s a stronger scent. It’s lightly hydrating and comfortable to wear, but I did notice the texture of the sparkle after the gloss wore away–no traveling, though.

	It wears and applies well, and it's not always easy to do that with an opaque gloss. The high-shine finish and glossiness makes lips look more voluminous as well!
