China Glaze Orange You Hot? Nail Lacquer ($3.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “bright orange with attention-grabbing gold glimmer.” It’s a bright tangerine orange with very fine gold shimmer. Honestly, that shimmer is nearly imperceptible under most lighting conditions. It’s there, and it has a subtle effect to add depth, but it’s not “attention-grabbing.” Zoya Arizona is lighter, more subdued, and a cream finish. Sinful Cloud 9 is a bit darker and has larger gold shimmer. China Glaze Papaya Punch has a cream finish and looks a shade darker. China Glaze Sun Worshipper is a bit brighter but also has a cream finish.

This shade was very nearly opaque after two coats, but at some angles, there’s a hint of visible nail line coming through. I liked the consistency on this shade better than several other shades in this collection, though it still seemed a bit thicker than the norm for China Glaze. It flowed a lot better, though, and I didn’t have trouble with it pooling along the sides. There were some noticeable brush strokes under bright light. I typically get a week of wear with China Glaze’s formula–no chips, just minor tip wear.

	I think it would be a little better if the gold shimmer was more noticeable--it fades away quite a bit, so it almost makes the nail look textured and not necessarily in a good way.

Is That Highlighter All Over Your Nails?

China Glaze Sun-Kissed Nail Lacquer ($3.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “hot highlighter yellow.” It’s exactly the color of a yellow highlighter; it has that same oddly cool undertone that makes it look almost green-tinged at certain angles; there is a fine dusting of yellow micro-shimmer that’s just the right side of noticeable even under natural light. It’s vibrant, almost neon (to me, it doesn’t quite have the same impact as a true neon). None of the yellows that I’ve swatched in the past are remotely close to this–they’re all more traditonally yellow. Sinful Colors Innocent is more of a chartreuse and has a cream finish. NYX Lime is similar in composition/texture, but it is greener. China Glaze Electric Pineapple was the closest but still rather green–plus it is also a cream. I doubt that this is the first of its kind, though, so I’d love to hear your dupe suggestions!

Yellows can actually be notorious for being a pain to apply, but Sun-Kissed was one of the better-applying shades in the 12-piece summer collection!  It was mostly opaque after two coats, though there was definite nail line showing, especially under brighter light.  There were also some visible brush strokes.  The consistency was barely thick, but not quite the same as I’ve come to expect from China Glaze.  It flowed well and didn’t pool too much along the sides, though you’ll want to make sure to wait in-between coats–and the drying time was longer than usual, too.  I’ve tested several shades in the past, and the formula consistently yields a week of wear with no chipping but minor tip wear.

	This can be a tough color to pull off, but it will inevitably be easier for those with cooler undertones! It's almost so yellow that it starts to cast a little green, though it's not really a chartreuse.

Add a Little Electric Green to Your Routine

One of twelve shades from China Glaze Summer Neons Collection, China Glaze I’m With the Lifeguard Nail Lacquer ($3.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “glimmering lime green.” I’d say that’s a rather apt description! It’s a vibrant, slightly cool-toned lime green with soft shimmer. Cult Nails Deal With It is warmer, darker, less neon. China Glaze Cha Cha Cha is also darker, moer golden, and not neon. China Glaze Kiwi Cool-ada was the closest shade that I could think of, though it has a cream finish.

The consistency was somewhat thick, so each coat was thicker than I’d like, which resulted in some pooling of polish along the edges. The shimmer also created some noticeable brush strokes, but the color was opaque after two coats.  It’s just a fussier formula overall–takes longer to dry, more patience required to get even coats (and color).  I’m usually a fan of China Glaze’s formula, but something wasn’t quite right with a lot of the shades in their summer launch.  The colors are fun and gorgeous (totally summer-esque), so it’s a little disappointing! I could see this lime green working well on toes.  I normally get a week of wear with no chipping and minor tip wear with China Glaze’s formula.

A Subtly Shimmmered Coral-Pink for Summer

One of the least neon shades in China Glaze Summer Neons is Pink Plumeria Nail Lacquer ($7.00 [MSRP] for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “light pink with gold shimmer.” It’s a pink-coral that almost leans orange depending on the lighting. It has very fine gold micro-shimmer–in natural light, it almost looks like a cream finish, but there is definitely shimmer in it. OCC Extravaganza is pinker but has a similar brightness and shimmer content. China Glaze Sugar High is a smidgen pinker and has a cream finish. MAC Impassioned is more orange. Deborah Lippmann Girls Just Want to HAVe Fun Nail lacquer is more orange. Illamasqua Lament is a bit darker, more orange, and has no shimmer.

Surprisingly, this wasn’t opaque after two coats; there is a hint of visible nail line, and a third coat would likely yield fully opaque color. I think with this kind of shade, it looks best when it’s completely solid in color.  The formula was on the thicker side, so it did not apply flawlessly.  The biggest thing I noticed was that it took longer than usual to dry, even though it’s slightly neon (neons, like mattes, tend to dry faster).  It dries down to a semi-matte finish, and if you prefer a shiny finish, I’d recommend using a glossy top coat.  I typically get a week of wear out of China Glaze’s formula with no chipping and minor tip wear.

	I wish this shade had more opaque color--the thicker consistency makes using a third coat even less desirable! I think the shimmer within the base color really works well, and it's pink enough to work on both cooler and warmer skin tones.
