Chanel Kensington Rouge Allure Lipstick
Chanel Kensington Rouge Allure Lipstick

Chanel Kensington Rouge Allure Lipstick

Chanel Kensington Rouge Allure Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “bold and brilliant fuchsia.” The color is inspired by “one of London’s most posh shopping districts.” It is a vibrant pink with blue undertones. The coverage is mostly opaque, and the finish has a lovely natural shine but still looks creamy and lush on the lips. This is a lipstick that really looks beautiful when worn; it just has that really cushiony look, where lips look like pouty pillows.

It’s not a particularly unique color–there are numerous bright pink hues to choose from–but the comfortable wear, five-hour wear, and how it keeps lips moisturized during wear, make it a good pink to choose. MAC Pink Pigeon is brighter, more magenta. MAC Love Forever is more blue-based, so it appears almost purplish in comparison. NARS Schiap is brighter, slightly darker. Milani Rose Hip is brighter. It has a similar look to MAC Florida.

Not every lipstick looks as good as this one does, just in terms of texture, because this shade looks like its melted against the lips; as if your natural lip color is really this pink and vibrant. The comfortable formula is a major bonus to the excellent consistency and texture.

Chanel Rouge Byzantin Rouge Allure Lipstick

Chanel Byzance: Rouge Byzantin Rouge Allure Lipstick

Chanel Rouge Byzantin Rouge Allure Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as “an iridescent ruby red with a hint of sapphire, for a rich, jewel-toned lip look.” On me, it’s a rich, pinked red with ruby micro-shimmer. It delivers nearly opaque color and even coverage. There is subtle iridescent sheen–looks almost fuchsia to me–that pops at a distance. It’s a very holiday-esque red to me. It’s bright and joyous, but the depth of the color gives it a luxurious richness.

Rouge Allure is a lovely formula–rich in color, moisturizing, and longer-wearing. I typically get five to six hours of wear, but with an intense shade of red like this, it tends to wear just past six. The color didn’t bleed or fade unevenly, either, which is excellent when you wear a high maintenance color like red.

It’s pinker and bluer than Chanel Lover, and similar but deeper than Dior Technicolor Red. You can see side-by-side comparisons here.

Blue-based reds are best on cooler skin tones, but the underlying pinkness to this red will make it wearable on warmer skin tones as well.

Chanel Lover Rouge Allure Lipstick
Chanel Lover Rouge Allure Lipstick

Chanel Lover Rouge Allure Lipstick

Chanel Lover Rouge Allure Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a rich, pink-based red with subtle blue undertones. It’s nearly opaque on lips, and it has a very bold, bright appearance.

Rouge Allures are some of my favorites, because they pack a lot of color in a standout formula: moisturizing, lightweight, and long-wearing. They have a slight rose scent, but I’ve found that the scent is usually subtle though occasionally a tube will have a more concentrated rose scent. (I’m not personally bothered by the scent, but those with more sensitive noses may want to check it out in person.) I get between four to six hours of wear, as Rouge Allures tend to wear longer than average on me.

FINAL THOUGHTS: This is a great red for light to dark skin tones, particularly those with pinker undertones, as the cooler base of Lover will work well with it.  Rouge Allures are also good if you have drier lips, more pigmented lip color, or need your lip color to wear longer.

Chanel Coquette Rouge Allure Lipstick
Chanel Coquette Rouge Allure Lipstick

Chanel Spring 2011: Coquette

Chanel Coquette (85) Rouge Allure Lipstick ($30.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a softened pinky-coral with cool-toned, fuchsia iridescence. It is almost opaque, but a hint of my lip freckle still peeks through, but this is a very creamy, moisturizing shade within the Rouge Allure formula. The color glides on effortlessly and wears for a solid five hours.

Rouge Allures have a slight rose scent, but I’ve found that the scent is usually subtle though occasionally a tube will have a more concentrated rose scent. (I’m not personally bothered by the scent, but those with more sensitive noses may want to check it out in person.) I get between four to six hours of wear, as Rouge Allures tend to wear longer than average on me.

The closest dupe I could come up with was Korres #18, which is pinker with gold shimmer. MAC Crosswires is more orange-based and a touch darker. NARS Niagara is closest in the pink color (though a little cooler) but doesn’t have the shimmer.

FINAL THOUGHTS: It’s yet another shade that will be flattering on a wide range of skin tones, and it is natural enough to be worn often but still has enough color to add brightness to the face.  What makes the shade more unique is the integration of fuchsia shimmer in the color base, as most variations in this color family opt for gold.

Chanel Flamboyante Rouge Allure Lipstick
Chanel Flamboyante Rouge Allure Lipstick

Chanel Spring 2011: Flamboyante

Chanel Flamboyante (84) Rouge Allure Lipstick ($30.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a coral-tinged muted pinky-red with subtle white micro-shimmer and a slightly glossy finish. It’s nearly opaque, and it doesn’t require a lot of layering to achieve rich color.  It is slightly darker and more opaque than MAC Viva Glam Cyndi.  Oddly enough, it swatches and looks more pink-red in the tube, but it seems to pull a touch coral when I wear it.

FINAL THOUGHTS: It is a pretty shade of coral-red with a little pinkness to it that will flatter both cool and warmer skin tones, because it doesn’t pull too orange.  With a more hydrating formula, this will also work better on those with drier lips, too.

Chanel Insolente Rouge Allure Lipstick
Chanel Insolente Rouge Allure Lipstick

Bright Pink That’s Wearable

Chanel Insolente (65) Rouge Allure Lipstick ($30.00 for 0.12 oz.) is brightened medium pink with subtle blue undertones. It has next to in noticeable shimmer but has a soft sheen. Like other Rouge Allures, it has opaque color, feels comfortable on the lips, and wears well. I typically get five to six hours of wear with brighter/deeper shades like this one. I wouldn’t describe the formula as overly creamy or moisturizing, but they never dry out my lips and always apply evenly and smoothly.

  • Product: 29/30
  • Value: 8/10

RECOMMENDATION: Insolente is a happy medium of brightness in a pink. It’s not neon, and it’s not the most traffic-stopping pink ever made, but it’s also a whole lot more wearable, too.
