Chanel Frivole Joues Contraste / Blush ($43.00 for 0.21 oz.) is described as a “luminous apricot.” It’s a brightened, medium-dark orange with just a hint of pink to give it an “apricot” coloring. The finish is mostly matte, but there is a touch of barely-there sheen that translates as “natural” when applied–you can see the tiny golden sheen in the blended out swatch. Buxom Euphoria is lighter and more orange. MAC Modern Mandarin is redder, less orange, more shimmery. NARS Gilda is redder. Guerlain Peach Boy is redder, less orange. MAC Optimistic Orange is a touch more orange (and it is a cream blush). Make Up For Ever is a touch darker and more red-toned.
It is as intense as you’d like it to be; it can be as rich and bright as it looks in the pan, or it can be blended and applied more sheerly for a softer color. Darker complexions should have no trouble getting enough color to show up on them, while paler complexions can rest easy knowing that it has an exquisite, finely-milled texture that makes blending a cinch. The powder is so, so soft but not powdery. It looks luminous and subtly glowy on the skin without emphasizing pores. Frivole wore for seven hours well, and after eight, there was very slight fading along the edges.
Beautiful, soft texture that looks natural and luminous on the skin, combined with excellent color payoff makes for a blush that will work across skin tones. It is very warm-toned, so those who tend to find orange blush less flattering may want to pass.

It’s a really pale color even in the pan, so it’s only going to be a blusher on light complexions. On medium to dark complexions, it’ll be more of a highlighter. It’s true-to-pan color–it’s just so light in the pan that it’s not going to work as a blush for some–but it never looked chalky on.
The texture is so, so soft–like silk–and finely-milled! It applied smoothly and was a cinch to blend out. I was extremely surprised with the way this looked on the skin, because the sparkle-content worried me. It was almost like wearing a Glossimer but made for cheeks–it had a very refined, subtle quality. A little dazzle, a little zing, but it wasn’t chunky or gritty or really glittery on. It did not emphasize pores either. I wore this twice last week, and both times, it lasted for eight hours without fading.
A really well-done blush with sparkle; it doesn't overdo it and has a subtle, sparkling effect that works beautifully on the skin. It can work as a blush or highlighter on light skin tones, but it will be more of a highlighter for medium to dark skin tones.

Chanel Fleur de Lotus Joues Contraste / Blush ($43.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “joyful color.” It’s a warm coral with a hint of pink and a satiny sheen. This is definitely a color we’ve seen pop up several times over the year. MAC Fleet Fast is similar, slightly darker and has a more golden sheen. Tom Ford Flush is brighter, more matte in finish. theBalm Frat Boy is pinker. Tarte Blissful is a touch pinker, brighter, and more matte.
This shade is a Nordstrom exclusive, and it’s a very pretty, summery coral with a lovely sheen that gives the face a warm, ethereal glow. While it seems pigmented enough, it’s hard to build up color on the cheeks, so it’s not a blusher I’d recommend for medium-dark to dark skin tones. It delivers both subtle and more medium color, so for those with paler complexions, it is easy to use without fear of going overboard. The texture is soft, finely-milled, and not powdery. It feels like silk against the skin and lies beautifully once applied. Fleur de Lotus is also extremely blendable and wore for eight hours without fading.
Fans of Chanel's silky-soft blushes will enjoy this take on coral, which isn't too orange or too pink. It has a soft sheen, no shimmer or sparkle, so it looks natural against the skin.

New and not listed as limited edition (!), Rose Initiale will be a lovely go-to, everyday kind of color on light to medium-dark skin tones, regardless of undertone. It’s not too warm or too cool-toned. On deeper complexions, it may disappear somewhat, but I think it’s going to be a color that’s right on the edge, so if it really appeals to you, still check it out. The pigmentation is true-to-pan, and it’s buildable but blendable, so you can achieve the intensity you desire up to the color in the pan. Because the shimmer is very subtle, it looks and acts as more of a sheen; it doesn’t emphasize pores.
The texture of Chanel’s Joue Contraste formula (including this shade) is soft, silky-smooth, and a wee bit powdery because of just how finely-milled it is. Thankfully, it doesn’t look powdery at all on the skin. It has a very natural consistency and texture once applied. When I wore Rose Initiale, it managed to look good for a solid eight hours. It was starting to fade after nine hours.
It's a surprise blush color for fall, but I think it's incredibly wearable by a variety of skin tones. It wears well, blends beautifully, and has buildable color.

Chanel Pink Cloud (66) Joues Contraste / Powder Blush ($43.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a limited edition rose-hued blush that is supposed to give “a soft, natural-looking flush to cheeks.” It’s a soft, pale rosy pink with subtle yellow undertones and a satiny sheen. Whether layered or blended, it has a similar look–just a very light pink. It’s not as pale as MAC Play It Proper, but it’s a little lighter than MAC Oh So Fair.
Chanel nailed it in what they were hoping to achieve, but because of the overall lightness in the color, it works best on lighter skin tones. In person, I found it looked ashy–more like I was wearing foundation that was too light on my cheeks than a subtle rosy flush. On my skin tone (which is medium with warm undertones), it could work as a lightly dusted highlighter but not so much as a blusher. In reality–on my skin–the difference between wearing Bieges Ombres Tissees and Pink Cloud is minimal–they both add a little sparkle and shine, with the latter adding a lot more sheen.
The texture of Pink Cloud is just like other Joues Contrastes; it’s silky soft with a very finely milled powder that yields a glowy sheen but never a frosted look. The color is true-to-pan, and despite the softness of the powder, it doesn’t sheer out instantly. For our lighter friends, it might be worth looking into; especially if you find many blushes too intense and pigmented.

Chanel Or Joues Contraste / Blush ($43.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a yellowed gold with a subtle, satin sheen. Chanel describes it as a “sheer, lightly shimmering shade of gold to bring a subtle new luminosity to the face.” It looks more shimmery in the pot than it does on–it’s not glittery or heavy. On my skin tone, I don’t find that it really adds much–it’s a touch of warmth, at best, accompanied by a glowy reflection. As a highlighting product, it’s good but not the best on the market. It’s a blush that would work well for layering over other shades to add golden shimmer. I liked that it delivered a sheen without an abundance of shimmer, and as far as golds go, it’s surprisingly demure.
Joues Contrastes don’t wear superbly on my skin–they last six to eight hours but rarely past that–but they tend to easy to blend and look natural applied. I might have had some blending issues with Rouge, but Or was a cinch to apply to high planes of the face and cheeks.
Chanel Shimmering Tweed is similar but a little more bronzed, and it has a chunkier glitter/shimmer in its finish. MAC Sun Rush is more of an orange-gold, but on, I think they’re very similar. Chanel’s Or is going to be subtler, because it has less of a sheen.
I like it more as a layering product, particularly over the accompanying Rouge blush from Byzance. I wish it had more of a glowy look when worn on its lonesome.
