Look:  Chanel Holiday 2010

Here’s a look using several of Chanel’s new products for the holidays!   It’s a quick, five minute look, and for reference, I used all of the eyeshadows dry.

You will need the following…

• Eyes: Chanel Splash Fluid Eyeshadow (taupe), Chanel Tentation Cuivree Eyeshadow Quad (champagne, light pink, medium brown, dark brown), Chanel Cassis Eyeliner (plum), Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara (black)
• Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder (translucent)
• Cheeks: Chanel Tweed Fuchsia Blush Duo (medium pink)
• Lips: Chanel Patchouli Rouge Coco Lipstick (peachy champagne), Chanel Pleasing Glossimer (redded copper)
• Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 116 (dense blush brush)

For eyes, start by applying Splash as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply the champagne eyeshadow on the inner third of the lid and pull upwards along the inner crease. Lightly blend the medium brown eyeshadow on the middle of the lid with the 239. Next, apply the dark brown eyeshadow into the crease with the 226, lightly blending onto the outer lid.  Blend the champagne eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Cassis on the lower lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Inimitable Intense mascara.

For cheeks, apply Tweed Fuchsia blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Patchouli lipstick first, and then layer Pleasing glossimer for a complementing lip.

Look: Chanel SoHo Story

I finally received my Chanel SoHo Story goodies that I ordered last week (blast them! for only allowing me to select ground shipping) on Monday, and here’s a quick look I created using nearly all Chanel products.  Reviews of several of the products to follow shortly!

You will need the following…

• Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (neutral eyeshadow base), Chanel Stupendous Eyeshadow Quad (icy blue, plummy brown, burgundy brown, soft pink), Chanel Cassis EyelinerChanel Inimitable Intense Mascara (plum), (black)
• Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder (translucent)
• Cheeks: Chanel SoHo de Chanel Blush (darkened rose)
• Lips: Chanel Stunning Rouge Coco Lipstick (muted pink-beige), Chanel Star Glossimer (sheer icy pink shimmer)
• Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 222 (fluffy crease brush), 116 (dense blush brush)

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply the icy blue eyeshadow on the inner third of the lid and pull upwards along the inner tearduct, and then lightly blend out along the upper lash line towards the middle. Lightly blend the plummy brown eyeshadow on the middle of the lid and pull outwards to the outer lid with the 239. Next, apply the burgundy brown eyeshadow into the crease with the 222, lightly blending onto the outer lid. Blend the soft pink eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Cassis eyeliner on the lower lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Inimitable Intense mascara.

For cheeks, apply SoHo de Chanel blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Stunning lipstick first, and then layer Star glossimer for a complementing lip.

Just a Hint of Plum

Chanel Cassis Eyeliner ($28.00 for 0.01 oz.) is a smoked plum with subtle red undertones in Chanel’s long-wearing, waterproof liner formula. It really is a lovely color, and it applies evenly with good pigmentation. There’s also a built-in sharpener, and I love that you can twist the eyeliner up and down (sometimes it only goes up!).

I’m continually surprised at how little product is included in twist-up eyeliners–it’s typically 0.02 oz. or so–while pencil eyeliners run around 0.04 oz. I’ve only finished one eyeliner in my life (MAC Graphblack, which is also a twist-up eyeliner); and going off memory, I know that, despite daily usage, I didn’t run through it in a matter of days–probably around two or three months. I am curious as to why they’re only designed to fit that much, though. I don’t feel like I use any less/more between twist-up/pencil liners! Anyway, this is to point out that you’re only getting 0.01 oz., which is below average, so if you’re looking for a daily eyeliner, you might want to prepare yourself for frequent repurchasing.

The formula of this eyeliner is excellent, and if you’ve had trouble with eyeliner staying in place, you may want to test drive Chanel sometime (they also have several other lovely shades). It is, indeed, waterproof. It wears all day without smudging, budging, or fading. It doesn’t stick well on my waterline (just an hour or two), but it stays put on my lower lash line. I wore it across my crease (rather than my upper lash line to avoid irritation), and it didn’t crease there either.

RECOMMENDATION: For a nice, long-wearing plummy shade, Chanel’s Cassis makes a nice choice–if you don’t mind the price tag.

MAC In the Groove:  Making It Easy… Really!

The trios really make it a no-brainer on throwing something together!  Just use one and you’re good–totally convenient.  A little unlike me, but hey…     Oh… and… HAPPY FRIDAY!!

Lightly blend the soft brown eyeshadow on the middle of the lid and into the crease with the 239. Next, apply the medium brown eyeshadow into the crease with the 226, lightly blending onto the outer lid. Blend the soft beige eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Cassis eyeliner on the lower lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Definicils Precious Cells mascara.

For cheeks, apply Exhibit A blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116, then lightly pat Mary Lou Manizer on the cheekbones.

For lips, apply Naughty You lipstick first, and then layer Hi-Falutin’ dazzleglass for a complementing lip.

5 Minute Makeup:  Dior Misty Mauve

Just a quick look using the lighter shades of the Dior Misty Mauve palette.   No tutorial for this one, sorry!

You will need the following…

• Cheeks: NARS Angelika Blush (baby pink)
• Lips: Le Metier de Beaute La Belle Lipgloss
• Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 116 (dense blush brush)

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply icy white eyeshadow on the inner third of the lid and pull upwards along the inner crease. Lightly blend icy pink eyeshadow on the outer two-thirds of the lid with the 239. Next, apply the plummymauve eyeshadow into the crease with the 226, lightly blending onto the outer lid. Blend Brule eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Cassic eyeliner on the lower lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Supernova mascara.

For cheeks, apply Angelika blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply La Belle lipgloss for a complementing lip.
