I didn’t love the texture; the base color was on the powdery side, while the sparkles didn’t quite bind with the base color, so they tended to flake or disappear during application and later on, during wear, I experienced fall out of the residual sparkles that did make it on the lid. Part of the “appeal” of a product like this is the sparkle/shimmer, so if you can’t actually see it on the lid, because it winds up trapped in the brush or underneath your eye, you’re really not getting the “pigment” you’d expect when seeing it in the pan.
The color can be easily used as a sheer wash or applied more heavily; that is one of the best features of Burberry’s eyeshadows is they are so soft, they can be done sheerly, but they’re so dense, that they can be applied with full coverage without having to layer or pack on the product. Because the sparkle isn’t jam-packed into the product, there isn’t a lot of fall out, but I felt like 90% of the sparkles wound up underneath my eye. The underlying base color wore well, though, and it was fully intact after nine hours of wear without any signs of fading or creasing (no primer).
Burberry usually is very consistent across their products, and their powder eyeshadows tend to have a phenomanlly silky-smooth, buttery texture, but this one fell short for me.

Burberry Midnight Blue Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.088 oz.) is a dark, navy blue with a satiny sheen and a barely-there purple tint. There are a few shades that are very similar, like MAC Naval Blue, MAC Blue Storm, and Bobbi Brown Blue Onyx. There weren’t any distinguishable differences between those three and Midnight Blue, other than it’s pressed (unlike the two MAC products, which are loose pigments) and better quality than Bobbi Brown’s variation. For those who are afraid of blues, I think purple-tinted blues make it less in-your-face blue and give the color a smokier effect.
The texture of Midnight Blue is a little on the drier side, though it’s still surprisingly blendable and easy to apply. It has a soft, finely-milled feel, so it smooths out well and doesn’t have any problems with fall out or skipping. It has good color payoff, but it could be a little more opaque–it applies best with a fluffier brush. The formula works well with and without a primer; when I tested out this shade, I had no problems getting eight hours of wear–no creasing or fading. The eyeshadow is larger than the average full-sized eyeshadow (0.088 oz. vs. 0.05 oz.) and comes in a gunmetal container with a mirror and sponge-tipped applicator inside.
For those who are afraid of blues, I think purple-tinted blues make it less in-your-face blue and give the color a smokier effect. I wish it had a slightly denser, more buttery texture, but it performs well on the lid (though not perfectly).

Burberry Pale Barley Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.088 oz.) is a pale, almost cool-toned medium-dark brown with a wheaten gold shimmer and sheen. Think taupe meets gold–it’s warmer, less gray than a true taupe, but it’s the warmth comes from the shimmer rather than an undertone. Urban Decay Suspect is warmer, less gray. theBalm Sultry is similar but doesn’t have any shimmer. MAC Patina is grayer, less golden. MAC Era has less of a golden shimmer.
Pale Barley is an easy-to-wear shade; it’s flattering on warmer complexions in particular, but I think the lack of red undertones will make this a wearable warmer brown for cooler skin tones as well. It has a soft, finely-milled texture that applies smoothly on the skin and adheres well without a base (lasts around eight hours without creasing, very subtle fading). This is a shade that seems “boring” on the surface, but it’s something I could see myself reaching for a multitude of neutral looks. It’s not too shimmery or too dark, so it can be used for softer, daytime looks or combined with darker shades for an evening eye.
Burberry eyeshadows aren’t easy on the wallet, but at least they give you a fair amount of product (the average eyeshadow contains 0.05 oz., Burberry’s contains 0.088 oz.). My go-to highlighter is Trench, and I’ve used that since Burberry debuted their beauty range–there’s only a small amount of pan showing in the middle, but the sides are still full. The packaging is gunmetal gray with reflective packaging and the signature check logo on the outside (which does hold fingerprints). Each compact comes with a velvet black-and-check patterned case. There’s a sponge-tipped applicator and mirror inside as well.

Burberry Almond (06) Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.088 oz.) is a soft, medium brown with just a touch of warmer, more golden undertones, but very subtly so. This would make a great contouring shade for those with fairer, paler skin, and it would work well as an all over color on medium to medium-dark skin tones. It pairs well with Trench for a quick neutral eye.
The texture is soft and smooth–buttery and feels like silk. It adheres well to the lid, over a base or without, though I haven’t worn it sans a base for twelve hours or anything (I always prefer a base–it feels like I’m committing a cardinal sin otherwise!). It’s pigmented but it’s a buildable shade–you can sheer it out with ease for a very soft look or apply in layers for something deeper. Burberry eyeshadows uncomplicate makeup; it’s hard to go wrong if you use their shadows. I also like the amount you get for the price tag; a little more than the usual high-end shadow.

RECOMMENDATION:If you like subtler color and enjoy soft, buttery textures, you may like Burberry eyeshadow.
Burberry Taupe Brown (07) Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.088 oz.) is a rich grayed brown with a softened, cool-toned edge. I love the pay off of it, and the texture is soft and smooth as silk. It has a semi-matte, semi-satin kind of finish, so while it’s not without a smidgen of sheen, it’s not frosty in the least bit. By its nature, it is a rather neutral shade, but it will pair well with so many colors from neutral to blues to greens to pinks. This kind of shade–particularly with its semi-matte finish–makes an excellent contouring shade, too, to really carve out the crease and emphasize eyes.
It’s a pricey pick, of course, as it is a designer brand. The packaging is as luxe as one would expect from Burberry with a hefty, gunmetal-metallic case with the check pattern and a matching velvet pouch. Each shadow comes with a decent amount of product, though, which should last you quite awhile. As with any higher-end/luxury brand, worth is very much determined by the purchaser and the products they like or what they’re looking for.

RECOMMENDATION: If you like taupes and have a hankering for one with a semi-matte finish, Burberry’s Taupe Brown may be one to consider.
Burberry Khaki (08) Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.088 oz.) is a beautiful shade of neutral olive green with subtle brown undertones. It’s nicely pigmented, and it applies like a dream–soft, smooth, buttery. I love that it’s obviously green without being too warm, because it makes it a very universally wearable hue. If you’ve ever found greens run too yellow/gold to wear, Khaki is a nice way to go green without going yellow, too.
The eyeshadow is housed in a gunmetal compact with Burberry’s signature check patterning on the lid. Inside, there is a mirror and a sponge-tipped applicator. The compact also comes with a velvet pouch to keep it in.

RECOMMENDATION: I don’t have a green quite like this in my stash at present, which is always fun for me! I think it’s a nice, neutral-toned green that’s very wearable either as a subtle shade or as an intense all-over shade on the lid.
