NYX Very Berry Lipstick

The Sultry Season: NYX Very Berry Lipstick

NYX Very Berry Lipstick ($4.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a darkened red-brown with a glossy finish.  It’s opaque, and it has a very creamy texture, so it applies beautifully.  It does fade away within three to four hours, but it’s a lovely color while it lasts.  There’s a slightly synthetic sweet scent in the tube, but I don’t notice it lingering once I’ve applied it.

MAC underworld Lipglass

The Sultry Season: MAC Underworld Lipstick

MAC Underworld Lipstick ($14.50 for 0.17 oz.) deepened red-based brown with a glossy, satin finish.  It is similar in look and feel to Media, but it is darker and browner–not quite as wine/burgundy.  It works well as a stain (just blot after applying and add a touch of gloss), if you don’t want to wear it at full power.  Since it’s such a dark shade, I like it paired with a very simple nude eye and eggplant eyeliner.

Benefit Lala Land Lipstick

The Sultry Season: Benefit La La Land Lipstick

Benefit La La Land Lipstick ($18.00 for oz.) is a pinky-brown nude with full-color coverage and a light, glossy sheen and no perceptible shimmer.  I love this with a lighter smoky eye or paired with greens. It’s dark enough to be worn on its own for a pop of color on lips, but it’s light enough to complement heavier eye looks, too.  Benefit’s lipsticks are very moisturizing and creamy, so they’re comfortable to wear, and they last about three to four hours on my lips.

MAC Film Noir Lipstick

The Sultry Season: MAC Film Noir Lipstick

MAC Film Noir Lipstick ($14.50 for 0.10 oz.) is a deep, reddened brown–very dark, very vampy.  It doesn’t go black on me, but it is incredibly dark.  On me, the red tones help keep it from being too much of a contrast against my warmer skin tone and potentially washing me out.  This is a shade that longs to be the star of a look–just pair it with a little eyeliner, mascara, and a contoured cheek.

Guerlain Gracieuse Rouge G Lipstick
Guerlain Gracieuse Rouge G Lipstick

The Sultry Season: Guerlain Gracieuse Rouge G Lipstick

Guerlain Gracieuse (05) Rouge G Lipstick ($46.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a softly gold-shimmered shade of darkened beige-brown.  It has full-color coverage, and it applies smoothly, richly, and beautifully in a single layer.  This is a great shade to wear instead of the traditional nude lip–it’s darker and more complex, but it’s still wearable with ease.  Rouge G lipsticks are creamy, lightweight, and wear an average of four hours on me.
