My Special Occasion Look: Red Lips

I don’t know why, but one of my go-to looks for a special occasion is red lips paired with a gold eyeshadow look. I didn’t have much time, so I only snapped a couple of photos of this look. I’m also still mad that Ore photographs so blah relative to how TA-DA it is in person.  Hope you’re having a beautiful Tuesday!

You will need the following…

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply Ore pure pigment on the entire lower lid to cover.  Then, apply Darkhorse eyeshadow into the crease and blend outwards and on outer third of the lid with the 226.  Diffuse the crease color by applying Virgin eyeshadow above to highlight the brow bone with the 217.  Apply #10L liner on the lower lash line and finish lashes with Inimitable Intense mascara.

For cheeks, apply #15 blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Dragon Rouge Allure Laque first, and then layer Exces Extrait de Gloss for a complementing lip.

Fall Trend: Bold Lips with Borghese

Borghese Grappa B Moisture Advanced Care Lipcolour ($24.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a creamy berry red wine with a soft sheen and high color. It is a creme finish, which accounts for how easily it glides over lips. It’s full color and very hydrating on lips and lasts me about five hours without eating/drinking. The color can bleed if your lips have this tendency already, so I do recommend a lip liner for best wear.

The packaging is a combination of black and silver metal, with the black portion kind of looking like a licorice twist, actually. I don’t love the packaging, but it’s functional and does the job. While the price is steep, you do get more lipstick for your dollar than usual, as the average lipstick size is about 0.12 oz. By the ounce, this lipstick is just a bit more expensive than MAC and Illamasqua, but cheaper than Urban Decay and NARS.

Because I discovered the foundation I used was too dark on me, and I was plagued by the dreaded orange face!! I was soo embarrassed. I gotta get a lighter shade of Select Tint, because NC35 (which I bought in the summer) is ridiculously too dark for me. I didn’t realize my skin tone had lightened so much this winter.

You will need the following…

  • Eyes: Ricepaper eyeshadow (soft highlighter), Urban Decay Honey 24/7 Liner, Graphblack technakhol (black), Plushlash mascara (black)
  • Cheeks: Givenchy Euphoric Orange blush (soft peach)
  • Lips: Queen’s Sin lipstick (red), Cult of Cherry lipglass (red)
  • Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
  • Substitutes: Queen’s Sin = Russian Red; Cult of Cherry = Russian Red

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Lightly sweep Ricepaper eyeshadow all over lid.  Apply Urban Decay Honey 24/7 Liner on lower lash line and mix a little Graphblack technakohl with it. Add Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Euphoric Orange blush using the 129. Apply Queen’s Sin lipstick to lips, and then top with Cult of Cherry lipglass for color and shine.

I was pretty pleased with the results — it’s very much the same, but it doesn’t have the same level of volume, shine, or texture. But it still works, and it doesn’t HAVE to be styled, which is what is important. I mean, as much as I hope to learn more about hair styling, it’s not my forte, so knowing I don’t have to stress out to learn quickly is such a relief! Wild ‘Bout You has always been one of my favorite lipsticks, and it’s great that this fall calls for just such a color :)

You will need the following…

  • Eyes: Grain eyeshadow (soft neutral), Plushlash mascara (black)
  • Cheeks: Petalpoint blush (soft purple-pink)
  • Lips: Wild ‘Bout You lipstick (deep berry), Jampacked lipglass (dark berry wine)
  • Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
  • Substitutes: Petalpoint = Breath of Plum; Wild ‘Bout You = New York Apple; Jampacked = Desire

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Grain eyeshadow on the lid portion of the eye using the 239. Apply Plushlash mascara to lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Petalpoint blush using the 129. Apply Wild ‘Bout You lipstick to lips, and then top with Jampacked lipglass for color and shine.

  • Lips: Port Red lipstick (cherry red), Cult of Cherry lipglass (bright red), Jampacked lipglass (dark berry)
  • Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
  • Substitutes: Uppity = Indianwood; Goin’ Bananas = Sour Lemon; Beautyburst = Texture; Feline = Graphblack; Port Red = Russian Red; Cult of Cherry = Russian Red; Jampacked = Desire

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Uppity fluidline on eyelid as base using the 249 brush. Apply Rich Ground fluidline above that, above the crease with the 249 brush. Apply Going Bananas eyeshadow with the 239 over Uppity fluidline. Repeat, but with Goldmine eyeshadow. With the 249, apply Golden Lemon pigment lightly over Goldmine. Darken outer lid and crease with Beautyburst eyeshadow using the 239 brush. Above crease, apply Carbon eyeshadow lightly to darken and dramatify the look. Sweep Ricepaper eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Also sweep Goldmine eyeshadow along brow bone. Finish with Feline kohl power on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Taupe blush using the 129. Apply Port Red lipstick to lips, and then top with Cult of Cherry and Jampacked lipglass for color and shine.

  • Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
  • Substitutes: Raven = Foxy; Bing = Cyber; Jampacked = Desire; Cult of Cherry = Russian Red

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Line lower lash line with Ravek kohl power and apply Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Blooming blush using the 129. Apply Bing mattene to lips, and then top with Jampacked lipglass and Cult of Cherry lipglass for color and shine.
