Philosophy Unconditional Love Firming Body Emulsion (16 oz. for $34) is a ridiculously well-hydrating moisturizer for your body with the same, blackberry ‘n vanilla sweetness as Unconditional Love Eau de Toilette I wrote about earlier. Again, despite being a rather sweet and fruity scent (with a good dose of warm vanilla), it’s not cloying or overly sweet. It also doesn’t turn once it’s applied to skin.
The Firming Body Emulsion has a “synergistic blend of vitamins E and C provides antioxidant protection and firming properties to help tone the skin.” That’s fancy talk for ingredients that are supposed to help your skin look better. I don’t really buy into firming body products–they take a long time to work, you really have to work it in (a lot of the “firming” effect comes from all your hard work!), and apply it at least twice a day. It’d be nice if it did anything, but I really just like it and use it for the likeable scent and how moisturizing it is.
I also like to use this to layer with the fragrance to help bring out the scent a bit more, since both are lightly scented. One bottle will definitely last me several months of everyday usage — I’d say I use two pumps per leg, and then another three pumps for the rest of me. Each “pump” of product isn’t very much, either.
I will say that the vitamin E inclusion is nice, because vitamin E can help reduce some skin concerns, though. It’s the olive and macadamia nut oils and shea butter that I care about, since those three together are one whopper of a hydrator!
Pacifica Hawaiian Ruby Guava Body Lotion ($22.00 for 16 fl. oz.) is a recent product addition to Pacifica’s product line-up. They are, perhaps, more known for their amazingly scented and long-lasting candles, but they’ve been slowly introducing scented beauty products to coordinate with their full array of scents.
Pacifica as a brand will always hold a special place in my heart, because they were one of the first brands to support Temptalia. It helps that I’m never disappointed whenever I try their products! (Even my parents–including my Dad, who hates all things scented–love Pacifica candles!)
The Hawaiian Ruby Guava Body Lotion is exactly what tropical paradise smells like–or at least what scent evokes images of sandy beaches, pina coladas, and a hot cabana boy. You can easily note the coconut, as well as the underlaying guava and pomelo–kind of a tropical fruit scent without being cloying or overly sweet. As a body lotion, it moisturizers and hydrates my scaly legs well. To be honest, I love the scent so much I’d still use this even if it moisturized just adequately.
The Body Lotion contains several ingredients designed to better your skin. It has chamomile extract, safflower oil, shea butter, and sweet almond oil–all ingredients that work together to give you soothed, supple skin. For those looking for more natural beauty products, Pacifica’s Body Lotions are formulated without GMO, parabens, phthalates, sulfates, synthetic dyes, and triclosan. It is a 100% vegan product, and it is not tested on animals.
So if I can’t make it to tropical paradise this summer, at least I can blend myself a non-alcoholic pina colada, lotion up with this, and close my eyes and pretend!
If you love the scent as much as me, you might want to check out the full range of Hawaiian Ruby Guava scented products, which includes Solid Perfume ($9.00), Body Butter ($15.00), Body Wash ($18.00), Soy Candle ($16.00), Travel Set ($14.00).

Mario Badescu Summer Shine Body Lotion ($10.00 for 6 oz. or $22.00 for 16 oz.) is a new favorite for all over body glow. One of my staple products during the warm months are shimmery body lotions, and while I love myself some shimmer, I am a bit particular about it. I like subtle shimmer, not a lot of glittery bits. I just want to see some extra sheen and va-voom added to my legs when I wear a dress or a sleeveless tank. Summer Shine is a moisturizing body lotion that feels weightless and sinks into skin quickly. I also find that it doesn’t seem to get all over my clothes, and it doesn’t feel sticky at all. I tend to prefer thicker lotions and creams for the body, but when it’s hot outside, thinner lotions like this one are more practical. I’m also a huge fan of the price tag on this product! I’d say a 6 oz. bottle will last you a good two months of regular use.
Crabtree & Evelyn Relaxing Body Lotion ($19.50 for 8.5 fl. oz.) is a really nice blend of lavender and chamomile essential oils, which are both scents known to help relax/calm you. I love to use this on my legs and arms a half hour before I get into bed, because it helps me remember to take time for myself and just *breathe* after a busy day. Super bonus is my legs feel hydrated and smooth!
For those of you watching your ingredients, this lotion is free of parabens, sodium lauryl sulfates, and sodium laureth sulfates. There is also a coordinating cream body wash, flroal body smoother, and a comforting body night cream. The body night cream is going to run a little thicker, so if your skin isn’t super dry, you can stick with the body lotion and be just fine. I, on the other hand, will probably pick up the body night cream for my dry, scaly dragon legs.
It’s my first time trying Crabtree & Evelyn products, so I’d love to know what your favorites are!
Revolution Organics All-Over Body Balm ($28.00) has become a staple in my household. I don’t really seek out organic products, because to be honest, I don’t have issues with the majority of my regular products, so why go after organic? But occasionally there are products that fall under the organic umbrella that appeal to some need or desire I have–as it was in this case.
This All-Over Body Balm is an excellent tool for curing dry skin–wherever it is. I love to use it on my lips and the area right above my upper lip (which for some reason tends to be ridiculously dry!), but it is perfect to use on your nose if you’re suffering from a cold (though use a q-tip or clean fingers!) or allergies (like me). It’s much larger than a lip balm tube, probably about the size of a quarter, but it’s still really portable. I’ve been using this for MONTHS now, and there’s still plenty left, which makes the $28 price tag a little easier on your wallet’s conscience.
Revolution Organics advertises that this product has at least 22 uses, and I’d buy it, since it’s just a general moisturizing balm, basically. I will say, however, that I personally won’t use it on my face *and* on say… oh, my feet! Just ew! The brand is all about using USDA certified organic ingredients in their products, which makes me feel like they really are organic and not just trying to get the buzz word in. The product’s “key ingredients” are listed as organic cocoa butter, organic shea butter, organic beeswax, organic olive oil, organic coconut oil, and organic apricot oil.
For a list of 22 uses as listed by Revolution Organics… Continue reading →
NARS Mini Monoi Body Glow and Body Glow II Set ($35) contains 1 oz. sizes of each. The full-size (3.9 oz.) costs $59 each, so this is definitely a good value set–especially if all you’ve wanted to do is try it. Let me tell you, I’ve lusted after this set forever. There’s just something about it that has appealed to me, so I was really happy to snag the set at a mere $35 instead of $98 (a limited edition set of the full-size bottles).
Body Glow is the one that’s a warm, bronzy-gold color. It’s designed to accentuate your natural tan or give you a little extra glam for your gams. Body Glow II is Monoi de Tahiti oil in a lightweight formula that also helps moisturizer your skin and can be used daily.
First, let’s talk about Body Glow (the bronzy one). I wouldn’t classify it as a self-tanner, because it really doesn’t attempt to tan you for days at a time. It’s a bronzy oil that will warm your skin up with a little color and shimmer. What I love about it is that it dries quickly–you don’t have to walk around the house for a half hour to an hour before you can get dressed. Just be sure to wait though, because when it is wet, it can stain your clothes. The scent of the tropical oil lasts forever, and it’s definitely potent!
Body Glow II does sink in and absorb pretty quickly, and it leaves a nice sheen behind, so it can work as a daily moisturizer if you’re looking for one. I found that the scent of this one didn’t linger as long as Body Glow, and I really don’t have the foggiest idea as to why that is. Nevertheless, for those not looking for color but still want to draw attention to their legs, this isn’t a bad choice.
All in all, this set is great for summertime. It’s not really worth using during the wintertime, because there’s just not much time where you can show off your glowy parts, you know? For the price tag of the full size bottles, you better believe I want to show ‘em off! As far as usage goes, I think you can easily get these mini bottles to last through at least one summer, since you don’t need much per application.
I don’t think I will be repurchasing, though, because I’m pretty sure I’m allergic to monoi-scented products–this is the second product with “monoi” mentioned in it that’s caused me to sneeze up and down the hallway instantaneously. So unfortunately for me, I’ll have to pass on this, but hopefully you’ll give it a shot, for those of you blessed without allergies
